As a previous breastfeeding supporter - who took a Level 3 qualification in order to be able to practise safely with vulnerable mothers and newborn babies (training, governance and safeguarding all cost money!) - I am delighted by this news. Fantastic!

Someone I follow on Instagram, who does amazing content and heads an online community I love, reposted about JKR supporting a "trans hate group" with a vomit emoji and it makes me so sad as well as doubting myself.

There are costs for insurance for instance, as well as room hire as well as training new supporters and keeping existing ones up to date. Website cost to develop and maintain, it all costs money and I imagine that there will need to be some new resources produced too

LLL no longer prioritise benefit to babies. That is universal now with the inclusion of men who want the experience of chest latching (no such thing as chest feeding imho).

There is no evidence that chest latching by males benefits babies in any way. Plenty of common sense views that latching a baby when they aren’t ever going to be able to feed, or might ingest chemical induced excretions, might be harmful to newborns. I’m glad this new organisation will prioritise both women and babies.

Do you have any links or other info about this? My reading of BfN current online material is that the 'inclusivity' is about supporting & including women who don't identify as women, but I would be very interested in anything that's been said about males who induce lactation.

Ruth especially is an amazingly experienced LLL Leader and previous Director of LLL. I'm thrilled they've set up a specifically women only CIC. I believe Ruth was also party to the conversations with the charity commission about clarifying that LLL GB was already a single sex organisation and could legitimately exclude all males. I'm sure they will set to this new charity to clearly be single sex and with the SC ruling can confidently promote women only mother to mother support (again)

Yes. It does limit the ability of men with a fetish to trash these organisations doesn't it?

This is just SO heart-warming... lots of coverage on social media, in the Times and the Telegraph so they really can re-invent the wheel with all the donations and requests flooding in ... a mother-centred nation-wide volunteer-run breast feeding service.

As they so rightly say, what LLL was a before men disrupted it.

While the effect of the SC ruling is not as quick as I would like it to be, on hospitals, prisons, changing rooms etc, I would like to spend a few minutes enjoying the fact that an organisation like this one can now exists, no ifs no buts no "Am I allowed to ask for a GRC?".

I'm really pleased to see this new org. There's no knowing how many bfcs currently use mother and woman erasing language. Those that no longer fit the ideals of LLL will defect to a well run bf organisation that is woman centred.

Our community hvs ran a rather useless breastfeeding service which was THE breastfeeding service in town. They usually just asked the now experienced mothers how to help. The problem being that the more experienced mothers were than asked not to come with our babies as they/we had toddlers in tow and some women just wanted to put their baby on the floor and ignore them for an hour.

This is exactly what women predicted. That women only groups will be infiltrated by men, so women will have to set up their own groups, to exclude them.

What a fucking waste of time these arseholes are putting women through.

But they will do it, it will be done, and these men will be nowhere.

Ruth Lewis (who was interviewed by Inciteful Sisters - see above) was formerly LLL and is one of the co-founders of this new organisation. I have worked with her on a volunteer basis with FiLiA and have the highest regard for her integrity, courage and expertise. She is a brilliant woman; this is a brilliant initiative. Please do support it if you can. You'll be gardening in fertile soil.

I'd just like to see the papers stop talking about transwomen, and talk about men, or trans identified men, or males.

BfN, ABM and NCT are all fully “inclusive” like LLL. This new group will be a first in being single sex in principle rather than just because no male has yet turned up wanting to join and receive help to “breastfeed” a baby.

I might be mistaken but as far as I can discover all but 2 of the directors of MoMa Breastfeeding were previously directors of LLLGB.

I know one of these former LLL leaders and Trustees. Having been treated so appallingly by this ideologically captured organisation, I think it is admirable that they have set up this new group to continue to share their experience and skills. The main costs I guess will be for premises and ongoing training.

I don't think BfN has said anything about tw inducing lactation.

I'm a long time BF supporter at a group like this.

Decent spaces are not cheap to rent, especially if you want to hold a group weekly.
They may need to buy equipment (dolls, knitted boobs, books, toys for accompanying toddlers, pillows), plus things like tea, coffee, boxes of tissues, etc.
To run a regular group with decent support you need a strong team and may need to pay for volunteers to undergo peer support training.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, so apologies for duplication, but does anyone know what positions NCT and BFN take on inclusion of trans women in BF services? I'm aware of the LLL stuff (which is appalling) but I feel like I haven't heard much about the others. It's probably just because I don't move in those circles any more (I used to be involved in BF support but left before a lot of the gender stuff really heated up)

I will say the long running NE LLL is women exclusive. it has a fantastic fb group
