I wouldn't trust him to look out of the window and let me know if it's raining.

The weather might identify as raining, bigot.

Amazing amounts of hubris here, please let "the right person" be Sophie Molly 😁

Oh wait, hang on, I haven’t finished the crossword yet.

And again for the people at the back: he was wrong on the law.

Which is awkward when you consider he's not only a barrister, but a KC. According to The Law Society, a KC is defined as "a senior barrister, recognized for excellence in advocacy and often entrusted with complex cases".

I wouldn't entrust Joly with representing me in a game of Scrabble, let alone a complex court case.

He's playing to his audience. The trans tend to see him as some sort of hero saviour.

I doubt KS or anyone in a serious position in the Labour Party is monitoring foxy’s SM activity.

That's what the police and specifically the ones protecting KS should be doing...

Isn't he just. I'm surprised at Keir Starmer allowing such language. Two tier Keir in action again.

AIBVU to hope he keeps on like this? He clearly hasn't got any wise friend to take him aside and say "maaaaaate"

Not sure if this bluesky post from JM has been discussed. Is this not considered as bringing his legal profession into disrepute? Why was Lucy Connolly punished so severely for her tweet but this scroat is untouched? He's goading the public to commit crimes.

And wasn't Bluesky set up to be the alternative nice version of X? I'm not on it and don't intend to either.

Ooh, she's seen it.

'This is a lie, and an easily provable lie. I’ve spent the best part of three decades funding initiatives and donating to charities serving vulnerable women, including domestic violence shelters. The charitable trust I set up in 2000 focuses on alleviating social deprivation, with a focus on women and children, including female refugees. I’ve funded an initiative to help female ex-prisoners secure jobs, I helped fly professional women out of Afghanistan because they were in danger from the Taliban, I’ve publicly voiced my support for women’s reproductive rights, I founded and fund a women-only rape crisis centre and I’ve campaigned for and funded projects to help single mothers.

I myself am a survivor of domestic abuse and sexual assault, as trans activists never tire of reminding me, whether to hope it happens to me again, or assert, as Maugham has, that I was left with unresolved trauma that leaves me irrational on the subject of physical risk to women.

Maugham is imploding in real time because he’s furious the Supreme Court decision put him back in his box. He was wrong on the law. He pretended it said what it doesn’t. The court reaffirmed the sex-based rights of women, but Maugham’s vanity and delusion make it impossible for him to accept (yet another) loss. So his grift continues, his lies grow bigger and more obvious, and now might be a good time for him to reread the myth of Icarus, because nobody needs clairvoyant powers to foresee how this is going to end.'

Excellent.

And again for the people at the back: he was wrong on the law.

They were all wrong on the law.

GenderlessVoid · 26/05/2025 12:41

Frankly, although I think being banned from women's spaces is a lot of it, a significant portion is just being told no. By women.

I think that's a huge part of it. He can't believe the Supreme Court sided with women, and ruled that they have a right to say "no"" to men. He's furious that mere women were right about the Equality Act and he was wrong. I think he's also pissed that JKR has competent lawyers: How dare she defend her own rights against his male entitlement? That's bullying!

I think his rage at her lawyers is funny. It's like he knows that her lawyers are more competent than he is and there's nothing he can do about it.

murasaki · 26/05/2025 12:37

I see the gardening both as financial support albeit small, and as a visual acknowledgement to the person that I support them, it must be cheering to see so many people backing them and make them feel a bit less alone

murasaki · 26/05/2025 12:35

That's a good point, if we keep gardening for appropriate cases, then they might only need top ups from the fund and that allows more cases to be part funded.

MotherOfDottirs · 26/05/2025 12:26

Gardeninging · 23/05/2025 22:19

Good lord, it's a completely private fund, looks like she's just paying out of her own pocket 😲

It needs to be open to donations! (Not because JKR is skint, but because it's fair).

JKR has two funds she accepts donations for: Lumos and Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic (research at University of Edinburgh). At least two other funds, Volant Small Grants and Beira’s Place don’t take donations. JKR even buys the teabags at Beira’s.
This wonderful fund to help fight back the genderborg doesn’t take donations. But if the applicants have a Crowdjustice site you can help them. She is an absolute treasure! I buy all her books; she has a new Strike story coming out in September.

SionnachRuadh · 26/05/2025 12:17

Frankly, although I think being banned from women's spaces is a lot of it, a significant portion is just being told no. By women.

There's definitely a thing with self-consciously right-on men, who probably think of themselves as feminist allies, where I don't think they can hear themselves doing it.

I'm thinking of a prominent male TRA of my acquaintance who knows Alice Sullivan, and I can hear the exasperation in his voice when he says "I just don't understand how Alice can take this entrenched position after I explained it to her."

Likewise I don't think Jolyon would consciously want to give the impression that he thinks of women as being intellectually lesser and a bit silly, and in need of the rational male (himself) to tell them how things are.

But his fury when a woman says no belies that.

IANAL. I am not even a tax lawyer. But I had to do annual GDPR training for.work, and here is what I kmow.

  • An FOI request can ask for any information, but only from a public body. Neither JKR not this fund is a pubic body.
  • A SAR can be submitted to any company or organisation, but only to ask what information they hold about you personally.
  • The fund will have a data controller, and probably 1 or more processors, but JKR having set it up doesn't mean she personally is the controller or processor. I'd be astounded if she hasn't employed someone for that.
  • If JRK has had any chats with her lawyers about keeping an eye on the tweets of a certain fox botherer for anything actionable, she will have done this is a private individual, not via the fund. The solicitors may therefore hold SARable information - but as a private individual she will not.

Hat tip to @SionnachRuadh for the South Sea Bubble ref.

And for those wanting to support JRK's bank account but who can't afford to (re)buy all the books, remember authors also get a payment for any of their works borrowed from a library (with the bonus of supporting library usage statistics and therefore also library funding; and showing librarians that JKR/RG books are popular and should be stocked).

Edited

Any conversations JK has with her lawyers are privileged, meaning they cannot be accessed via a SAR or via disclosure in litigation.

I think a dignified silence on the part of JKR would have more effect now - going forward.

It won't end well if it continues on X etc. although I can understand completely that JKR responds as she sees fit, and maybe opens the eyes of others in the process.

I don't know...the "dignity" of silence is overrated in my opinion, especially as it always seems to be women who are told their dignity is in silence. And anyway, even if it would be dignified, it wouldn't be anywhere near as fucking funny.
