Just watched KJK talking about all things trans on a Tanya De Grunwald podcast ( great podcast) - she says she is banned from mumsnet? I just wondered why she was banned.

Wow, I'm as GC as they come but I find that video revolting. She's just a nasty bigot.

It's almost as though she sees all humans as equal, and is not someone who thinks a life has more value if the person concerned has three degrees and speaks in a posj voice. Almost like she appreciates the tendency of the working classes to speak clearly and directly, as opposed to the tendency of the middle classes to potificate and demonstrate, even though in doing so they are making their message less clear and less persuasive.

Apart from, of course, trans people, whom she sees as inferior and less equal, and calls for landlords to refuse them housing and employers to refuse them employment:

Kellie Jay Keen who was so vocal about how fantastic a Trump presidency would be? That Kellie Jay Keen?

The one who's a complete fucking idiot?

Also, every single crowdfunding website I've donated to has a pretty clear series of disclaimers including what the money might be used for if it can't be used for its original purpose, so no-one who donated would have been entirely surprised by this.

Dodgy though. She took donations to open a women's refuge, didn't actually do it, and then kept the money instead of refunding it. It was like twenty grand.

She didn't 'keep it', she donated it to Let Women Speak which gives a voice to all women, including those who have been abused and forced to use refuges that accept men dressed as women or have nowhere to go.

The only reason she did this was because all the refuges / domestic violence charities she tried to give it to refused it because they were scared of men with a trans identity kicking off.

As far as I know no-one who actually donated has complained about her donating the money to LWS nor asked for a refund.

Why do you feel it necessary to tell us your qualifications? It isn’t a job interview. Some of the smartest people I know don’t have degrees and a lot of those who lack critical thinking skills do. It doesn’t make your points more valid, and it’s a bit juvenile tbh.

Ah. yes. This was the favoured tactic of Alice Roberts against a more junior female academic, as I personally witnessed the exchange unfolding on the then-Twitter.

Her 'argument' was tantamount to: 'I'm a professor and you're not. Therefore what I say carries more intellectual gravitas (even if it's a crock of effin ole rot) because I am a professor. And you're not'.

Junior academic: 'okay, but' and continues making her very sound, reasonable points without needing academic credentials to support them. The points stood for themselves. Evidently realising this, the Good Professor became more irate as she was obviously having difficulties in countering them, then others joined in and also told her she was being unreasonable. She went off in a flounce and shut down her Twitter profile, claiming she was the victim of misogynistic bullying.

The only bully I saw in action during the entirety of that exchange was her. Seems to be quite a pattern with this brand of 'activisim'.

MalagaNights · 22/05/2025 14:47

What do you have to believe or support to be far right?

I suspect it is control immigration, don't trans kids, cut taxes.

I'm very fed up with the constant association of Christian with Far Right. There are a very large number of people in the world who call themselves Christians. How many are Far Right, and how many are to the left of that? I know many Christians who have never voted for any right of centre party, and who align with most left wing policies.

Look at the most recent popes.

mrshoho · 22/05/2025 14:33

I hope this link works. It's KJK being interviewed on this morning 6 years ago with IW. This was filmed at a time when KJK was often a lone voice on national media in pointing out the absurdness of trans ideology. I remember being taken aback when I first heard her speak so bluntly but I could see she was 100% correct. A brave, intelligent, charismatic woman who was right. Thank you KJK.

I don't think KJK is working class though is she? She's affluent middle class AFAIK but because she's successful without having performed the correct accoutrements that signify 'educated woman's rights campaigner' - in her accent, appearance and associations - she's treated with suspicion. If she had just ditched the lipstick and hair dye, bought her clothes from Toast, got a Substack instead of YouTube then maybe she would be Serious.

There is a lot of in-group signalling. Even among the feminists who claim not to do it.

Yes I agree with this.

She uses gender stereotypes to her advantage. Deliberately.

Plus she's unashamedly up herself, gleeful about it in fact.

It winds up TRAs and socfems no end. Which only really has the result of making her do it more.

You can see exactly why she gets both tutted at by some people, and is simultaneously extraordinarily successful.

JamieCannister · 22/05/2025 11:42

TempestTost · 22/05/2025 10:32

Which is why I said she was percieved as, or assicated with, working class people, by the socfems and other people on the left who critisize her for political impurity. As opposed to the also on the right Helen Joyce.

KJK is happy to speak to hicks, gammon, and rednecks, and seems to take the voices of women from those groups seriously.

I might be completely wrong, but I suspect her background / class is similar to mine.

I supect that her parents were aspirational working class, and that due to their aspiration and her intelligence and education, and marriage and husband's job, her kids are solidly middle class. But KJK herself is a bit stuck in the middle, middle class compared to the "proper working classes" but still far to abrasively as a result of her working class parents to be fully accepted into the sort of middle class circles HJ can fit into with ease.

BackToLurk · 22/05/2025 10:38

KJK's thing is that she has one issue, which is woman = adult human female, and she'll talk to anyone on that basis.

She'd probably be better off sticking to that then rather than pivoting to making up stories about female mayors based on fact checking with ChatGPT

KJK's thing is that she has one issue, which is woman = adult human female, and she'll talk to anyone on that basis.

Which means she'll sometimes go where others fear to tread. She's been on Carl Benjamin's podcast. I'm not sure I would do that (though I'd debate with him on neutral ground) because I have reservations about CB and many more reservations about the edgy boys he has on as co-hosts. But she went on, put her case in front of his audience, and neither of them said anything particularly outrageous.

If you listen to TRAs, they don't draw a distinction between KJK and the rest of us. They're quite happy to say that JKR, Julie Bindel, Helen Joyce, Maya, Allison Bailey, Alice Sullivan are all aligned with the far right. Of course you have to remember that these people are fucking insane.

But a lot of this started out with the lefty terfs using it against KJK, with the whole "pound shop Le Pen" thing. And they thought that if they were loud enough in denouncing an acceptable target, that the same line wouldn't be used against them.

Agreed. I heard HJ say KJK "wasn't middle class" while saying she agreed with and supported KJK and I thought - what the hell are you on about? Presumably that means I don't meet the standard either as I occasionally drop an h too..? Middle class is a broad church these days but I really don't like how women police other women. Like when Naomi Cunningham had that piece in Holyrood Magazine and she said she didn't think she was the best at her job and there were others better. She is obviously brilliant and overthinking. But if she had been more confident and hadn't said that and shown "modesty" then she would have been slated. To me that is why KJK gets a lot of stick - because she refuses to do the modest thing that other women expect. Good for her I say! It's ridiculous. KJK is amazing at what she does and I am somewhat ashamed of myself that I heard about the far right connections and believed them so avoided her stuff until a couple of weeks ago and after someone said what I believed (that sex is real and matters) was far right. So I watched what she does and I went to a meeting of LWS. I've been to dinner parties where people have been more controversial. If someone gets that much opposition for just saying their opinion (in milder terms than I have seen men on GB News spouting) then there is much wrong in the world.

TempestTost · 22/05/2025 02:54

Yes, I'll buy it's a class thing. The academic socfems basically seem to despise the working class and I think that's how they see her.

I think that probably is what the affiliation thing is about too. It's not just that she talks to right wing people. It's that she talks to right wing hicks.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/05/2025 21:02

She's holding a LWS event outside New Scotland Yard on Saturday Grin
Also usual Hyde Park event on Sunday

SionnachRuadh · 21/05/2025 18:43

I don't like to write off the socfems as a group, because I've known and liked some, and a few have been a big influence on my thinking. But there's definitely an element of them viewing themselves as the leaders, the sophisticated thinkers who have done the analyses and have the connections to Labour MPs and have all the professional credentials.

Which isn't entirely untrue. If Labour is moving gradually towards reality, you need people who can go into a room with Wes Streeting and pitch a policy proposal. KJK is not the woman for that.

My beef with the elite lefty feminists is not that I disagree with what they're doing necessarily, it's that they think they can dictate what everyone else is doing, and try to shut down any activity or person that isn't approved by the credentialed leaders. Whereas we need a variety of people with a variety of approaches.

I think a lot of the derangement syndrome around KJK is that she's an organic leader who doesn't have credentials, just a ballsy attitude and a Trumpian genius for publicity, and even worse, she doesn't show deference to the credentialed leaders. She's uppity and they can't handle it.

And a lot of it is class or perceived class. Helen Joyce is moderately centre-right, but if you're a lefty feminist academic, she's a peer who you have no trouble imagining a cordial conversation with. While KJK may as well be a space alien from their perspective.

Datun · 21/05/2025 16:16

Also, KJK has absolutely no problem whatsoever indulging in a bout of let's wind up the larpers.

it's no surprise, certainly to her, that she'll get stick because of it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/05/2025 14:16

JamieCannister · 21/05/2025 13:36

I disagree.

It is absolutely clear that KJK is extremely eloquent and clever on her specialist subject. She has a knack of getting to the heart of the matter in a way that is probably better than HJ.

I respect HJ massively for her intelligence and professionalism, but KJK seems to be exactly the same apart from she hasn't edited an important magazine, whereas she is a genius marketeer and much better at reaching ordinary women.

In my view pretty much all the criticism of KJK is guilt by association, whether that is by association with (right wing and alleged right wing) people she disagrees with on many issues, but had the temerity to speak to, or association with people who are (stereotyped as) blunt and thick and working class, and therefore KJK has little value because the people she reaches have little value.

I agree with this analysis.
