Just saw this:

Helen Joyce @ HJoyceGender
Morning all! Guess where I'm off to this fine day - Broadcasting House to discuss the @ ForWomenScot judgment, 4 weeks on, on @ BBCWomansHour! Do listen in. I'm looking forward to debunking some shocking disinformation, and reminding an astonished world that Women Have Rights Too

[EDIT]

Yes, I know I put "Women's" instead of "Woman's" in the title

I’ve sent my feedback. I find it quite sinister that they want your address and phone number.

Wonder if it's to find out if you're a license payer or not.

BeepBoopBop · 15/05/2025 10:07

Interesting that the author Isabel Allende interviewed afterwards, detailing her decision to become a writer made a point of mentioning lack of opportunity for women. I assume she meant biological women as it was a few years ago. My irony meter flew of the scale as NMG made her mmm mmm ahhh empathy noises.

Have also sent positive feedback with only one word for my address. You do have to give them your correct email address though as they send a link to verify it before they accept the comment.

Would encourage all to give positive feedback. Maybe they'll take it on board and have more HJ and more women like her on. Would love to hear Doc Stock, Maya Forstater and KJK as well. Maybe also Graham Linehan.

Yes, well, I have an otherwise-MN-only email address that I use for annoying surveys and the like. Plus an ancient PAYG phone that still appears to have a valid number.

I was entertained to find I had 667 unread MN-related notifications when I logged in to the email!

I’m not sure which barristers are mid-way through partly-suspended-employment tribunals, but I do think that Women’s Hour should cover just how many women have been hounded out of the NHS/Academia/Civil Service etc. and how, on the whole, their cases have been funded by many many normal people, not multi-millionaire ultra Right Wingers (or whatever the latest insult is).

Sandie and Darlington are getting some publicity, but “Average Joe/Joanna” would have no idea.

NeedForSpeed · 15/05/2025 09:49

Have sent mine in, thanking the Beeb for having Helen on, but asking why the presenter was so clearly partisan when comparing with the various men on recently.

Also asked why they have had so many male trans activitists on and so few women rights activists on when it's supposed to be about women.

Also pointed out that the presenter was badly prepared for this conversation. Also asked why she failed to challenge Robin over his appalling and derogatory comments during his interview.

I've sent positive feedback. The BBC wanting so many personal details was very annoying so I garbled it all up.

DeanElderberry · 15/05/2025 09:22

I don't know, complying with the law 'the way Helen would like' everyone to, wrt single sex spaces and speed limits and probably everything else that has been legislated for, ever.

Evil Helen doesn't want people to break the law is odd messaging.

I think it’s important to use clear language for 2 main reasons,

  1. A lot of people don’t understand that a transwoman is a male and a transman is a female. I think the use of MtF and FtM also muddies the waters as no one can change sex so no one transitions from male to female. Gender and sex being used interchangeably by the same people who tell us that sex and gender are different. Clear language is therefore crucial.

  2. The more we give in to the pleas to be kind and respectful of preferred pronouns and not calling a transwoman a man the more difficult it is to maintain other boundaries such as single sex spaces. The SC ruling’s use of the word “incoherent” was spot on. Even if I don’t mind about who pees in the cubicle beside me I know that single sex exemptions are not just about toilets. We can’t say that a TW can be a woman in the WI but not in a woman’s prison. Someone is either a woman or not, there are no degrees of being a woman.

So from a place of #bekind a few years ago I am firmly in the camp of giving up absolutely no ground. The TRAs wanted #nodebate and total capitulation at a time that a lot of women just wanted one female only rape crisis centre or one female only lesbian group. TRAs have hounded and bullied women out of jobs, targeted and threatened businesses into cancelling bookings for female only events and used their political powers to withhold funding from female only service providers. They get violent at the prospect of any female only spaces.

So I won’t be emotionally blackmailed into being kind or thinking about the feelings of men. I will not spend time worrying about where the men will pee ( as long as it’s not in the women’s toilets).

Helen’s explanation was so clear and articulate I can only hope that her argument landed with some listeners.

Edited

Absolutely agree. I will add one further point that I've come to realise.

The TRA movement at its heart is linguistic. Because if you can change the meaning of words like "woman" to mean something new (that it includes some men) then you can change laws without having to get new laws written and passed.

If you can change the meaning of words then you also change people's behaviour and their support for this ideology more easily.

This is something clearly FWS understood and so why they wanted "sex" and "women" defined in the Equality Act.

It's also a point that KJK copped onto very early and so why she put up her billboard with the definition of "woman" from the dictionary on it.

So now, like Helen, I just refer to them simply as men. Not trans identifying men, not transwomen, just men. Nice and clear and simple.

GailBlancheViola · 14/05/2025 13:25

No-one here has ever said they are all manipulative rapists.

I take it from that you have no understanding of the basis of safeguarding and how it works.

The toilets habits of men claiming to be women who have entered women toilets are truly appalling, I agree.

Hang on. Is Marmalade saying that we’re ‘vile’ for condemning the way some trans identified men behave in the ladies toilets??

We’re vile?? Not the predatory and disgusting behaviour of the trans identified men in the ladies toilets??

RedToothBrush · 15/05/2025 09:14

"It is outrageous that you had a woman on woman's hour explaining what the law is, how the law works and why we have the law. I don't like the like and intend to break the law. Anyone who agrees with the law should be locked up for breaking my interpretation of what the law should be. It. Is. A. Disgrace.

mcduffy · 15/05/2025 09:11

i listened on catch up and was furious at the complying with the law as Helen would like statement. It doesn’t make any sense if you apply it to any other form of law breaking!

JumpingPumpkin · 15/05/2025 09:10

I’ve sent positive feedback. Thanked them for getting her to explain that young boys aren’t adult men and said I hope they have her on again.

I wonder what the criteria are for barristers to be reported to the Bar Council for bringing the profession into disrepute. Disagreeing with a Supreme Court judgement is one thing, stating that one intends to break the now clarified law would be another.

Edited

Interesting thought. Can anyone make a complaint/report to the Bar Council?

ItsCoolForCats · 15/05/2025 09:00

I'll email with some positive comments. Where is the source of info that the BBC is getting a lot of complaints about having HJ on?

ScrollingLeaves · 15/05/2025 08:56

borntobequiet · 14/05/2025 22:58

That tosh is written by supposedly educated people? And I went there, too.

I know. How could an educational establishment of any standing use the phrase ‘sex assigned’ at birth?

MassiveWordSalad · 15/05/2025 08:51

The complaints are probably coming from BBC staff. I imagine they had to have lengthy group therapy sessions and cleanse the building with sage or something after the wonderful Helen left.

Any fellow fans of Severance here? I’m imagining Nuala McGovern spent a looong time in the Break Room for her ‘pronoun mistake’ 😁

I've just looked, It's been over a year (February last year) since RMW last posted.

I'm probably not the only one though who would like Robin to come back to discuss with the women on here whether or not Robin, as a member of the male sex with no GRC, plans to use the women's toilets and changing rooms etc going forward in direct contradiction to the Supreme Court ruling.

I wonder what the criteria are for barristers to be reported to the Bar Council for bringing the profession into disrepute. Disagreeing with a Supreme Court judgement is one thing, stating that one intends to break the now clarified law would be another.

Thank you for the warning and link.

It sounds like everyone who missed this needs to listen to it, then write to the BBC with full back up for Helen Joyce plus thanks to the BBC for putting her on, and then full rebuttal of misleading assertions or suggestions by Nuala/RMW plus criticism of any omissions.

I wonder how cogent and coherent the complaints are. I expect they’re mostly along the lines of “how dare you have this evil terf witch on, talking sense and denying my existence” repeated ad nauseam.

LittleBitofBread · 15/05/2025 08:25

I've written to the Beeb to thank them for having HJ on. Said I appreciated that she was mostly allowed time and space to express her points, but the question about young boys in women's toilets with their mothers was desperate and embarrassing to hear from someone who is supposed to be a serious journalist.

Also highlighted that the comment from the presenter that 'Some organisations are not complying with the law in the way [HJ] would like them to' was also problematic and that the BBC was in serious danger on that point of misleading listeners with false information by using wrong and slippery language.

EDITED for typos

I'm struggling to understand how describing someone using neutral terms like tall and imposing can be construed as a personal dig. Neither of these words is in any way pejorative.

I've further commented on this already, I'm not repeating myself.
