Man pushed ahead of woman to use female toilet

This didn't directly affect me as I have use disabled toilets, but I was out earlier and there was one male, one female, and one disabled toilet. There were 3 men and 1 woman waiting. One of the men was about to go into the disabled toilet when he saw me. I have no choice but to use disabled (wheelchair user). The female toilet became vacant and the man walked towards the door. The woman waiting was quite young and looked surprised but didn't say anything. I'm far from young and used to speaking up for myself, so I pointed out that it was a toilet for females and unless I was mistaken he wasn't female. He said no but I'm desperate and went in anyway.

So not only do women have to put up with men pretending to be women, we now have a man who decided he was going to use the women's toilet anyway!

Every conference or big event I’ve ever been to I’ve watched women walk straight into the men’s toilets, sometimes past their queue. This guy might be a cf, and it’s unfair to that lady, but it’s just a cf/ asshole thing- nothing to do with being a man

Do these women push in front of men who are waiting?

Has someone answered yet, why this entitled man couldn't ask or push in to the front of the men's queue?

I'd have preferred he said "I'm desperate, would you mind if I went in front of you?"
I'd have no problem with that in a cubicle situation.

Picking up the people you are responding too, not just you.

We don't know he was desperate, we know he behaved as though he was desperate or entitled.

The options are not "piss oneself" or "push in at the wrong sex toilets". Other options exist including "planning ahead" or "drinking little because you know your bladder is small".

Christ, no wonder women’s rights are going backwards with all the male apologists on MN of all places.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 14/05/2025 09:00

He might have been a disabled transman

one imagines he would still be able to ask to go first

Exactly what i was saying

i would rather he asked the men first but he deffo should have asked the woman before he went in front of her

I was having this conversation with dd recently. She’s noticed men often appear less able to recognise or hold it- little things like dh will suddenly he announce he needs a wee on the motorway and we have to stop next services.

I’ve known men pull over to the side of the road too. In fact last night saw a little boy at the side of a car having a pee roadside.

Whereas the girls will be like when are we stopping, and will be able to hold it until a convenient.

my theory is people are much more tolerant, and obviously it’s easier for men to pee whenever and wherever. So they never really learn how to recognise early on when they might need, and how to hold it for longer than it takes their brain to get the full bladder message.

so men it’s need wee, stop and wee. Women are need wee, need to find somewhere a) private, b) convenient to squat, c) preferably with toilet paper, and d) with clean enough floor to drop trousers.

I work with a cultural group who are extremely religiously observant. One of the things they do, especially the men, is pee as soon as they are aware they have urine in their bladder. I've had a few explanations of this, and from what I can gather, it's because the sensation is distracting and could interrupt your religious reflection and duties.

One of our urologists have told me that it leads to having a very small and irritable bladder and gives men simialr symptoms to having an enlarged prostate. For instance, most adults have to wake up to pee in the night whereas that's something you typically grow out of.

So it's ok for a man to enter a woman's space because he's desperate? So if all the men's toilet in cubicles were full, it's ok for a man to enter the ladies toilets because he's desperate? And to push ahead of women waiting?

He might have been a disabled transman. 🤷‍♀️

He was desperate. Would you prefer he pissed himself?

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 14/05/2025 08:50

Obviously I don’t imagine that at all….

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 14/05/2025 08:50

I'm male, I'd never walk into the female or the disabled toilets. But if the choice was that or shit myself / vomit on the floor, I don't know if I could say the same

the lass he pushed in front off may have been desperate…

i would imagine (based on nothing at all) that she was about to shit herself due to her meal at the dodgy restaurant she went to with her boyfriend and his family the night before

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 14/05/2025 08:44

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 14/05/2025 08:12

This

he abso-fucking-lutely should have asked the men if he could go first as he was ‘desperate’

what happened to society that makes people excuse bad behaviour like this…I don’t get it

and no, if i was in a queue for a single toilet and a man came forward and said he was desperate i would let him past me (unless i was desperate obviously….that lass he pushed in front of may have been desperate as well!)

The mens toilet wasn't vacant though.

I'd imagine that this bloke was about to shit himself in a very public setting, through disability or the sudden onset of a stomach bug or food poisoning.

As such his choice was either to shit himself, or avail himself of an empty single occupancy room.

I'm male, I'd never walk into the female or the disabled toilets. But if the choice was that or shit myself / vomit on the floor, I don't know if I could say the same.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 14/05/2025 08:13

If either of my young men or my husband did this i would be mortified

and they would regret it ….😀

This man did not avail himself of any information on the women also needing a wee.
I've lost all my fucks for the poor man with imaginary problems we are giving him to make this acceptable.

busybusybusy2015 · 13/05/2025 20:58

What I'm trying to say is that I expect any half-tolerable man to be aware of the demands of female biology (periods, pregnancy, menopause etc) and it's the decent thing that women should be well informed about (and not mock) the shenanigans that afflict the male body (the things that mortify teenage boys, the prostate problems, etc.). Adult male bodies have no place in women's spaces. That's fundamental. But we should all know the grisly, intimate details of how the body works for the opposite sex. We're not prudes or Victorians. I'm not oppressed by the patriarchy if I don't want an older man to wet himself.

Yes?

busybusybusy2015 · 13/05/2025 20:13

He should have asked, should have apologised profusely. And it depends how old he was. When the prostate starts misbehaving, men are totally taken aback by the concomitant rinary incontinence. Men swan through life with those apparently huge bladders - and then their world changes and they have no experience of 'toilet mapping' and the 'precautionary wee' which women learn much earlier because pelvic floor problems mean we get stress incontinence so early in life - you know you can't safely lift the shopping so you go and pee first. Men are late learners on urinary urgency and thunderstruck by the whole prostate issue, and we all get self-focused when we know we're about to wet ourselves. I have some charity on this one. But he should have asked.

Did he asked the woman waiting if she was desperate? Sorry I keep forgetting it's irrelevant how women are feeling isn't it. Obviously a man's desperation outweighs a woman's. Obviously.

Thank you for reminding me of my place FancyLilacHare

I have acted in an entitled manner at times as I believe I am equal and should be treated as though I am

Its funny how since having a son I have realised more than ever how unequal our society is

Funny how women manage to hold it in so much better than men despite "being desperate".

That man was an entitled twat.

I’ve often used men’s loos in theatres. Never enough women’s.

Because it is symptomatic of a wider issue with regards male entitlement in toilets and wider society? Whether the male entitlement comes from men or men identifying as trans?

Is it though?

Let's leave aside trans women, as they are a distinct group with a specific broader ideology (ie that feelings trump facts and there is such a thing as one's own truth). For them toilet usage is just part of their greater agenda.

Barring that, has it been your experience that men often jump the queue to use women's toilets? Or even regularly use women's toilets without jumping the queue?

Delphin · 13/05/2025 12:56

"Why is the single, minorly-selfish action of one man one time, so important as to warrant a report on MN and a discussion?"

Like others said its a symptom. And by discussing it, maybe more women become aware of the everyday selfishness or entitlement of men, and maybe next time the young lady waiting will dare to say "Hey, I was here first, and you are not jumping the queue."

JamieCannister · 13/05/2025 12:52

SpaceOfAides · 13/05/2025 12:14

But so what? I just don't get all this headspace and time dedicated to a single man who at one time - as far as we're aware - jumped the toilet queue.

Perhaps out of entitlement, perhaps out of desperation, but what difference does it make? It's not as if men everywhere are pushing ahead of women to go into the women's toilets. Why is the single, minorly-selfish action of one man one time, so important as to warrant a report on MN and a discussion?
