AIBU to think that if someone appears on mainstream media MN should not delete the discussion

LesserCelandine · 12/05/2025 13:30

Not a repeat of the other threads on one particular person’s appearance on Radio 4 but rather about whether MN should delete threads discussing that appearance or appearance by others on mainstream TV and Radio. I was shocked this morning to see MN had deleted one such thread.

It is one thing to comment on someone trying to live a private life who has been thrust unexpectedly into the limelight. It is another to censor discussion when someone has put themselves forward, especially if what they say breaches the law.

Is this an admission of what the Tavistock were talking about when they said they were transing away the gay?

Robin also - in his own blog that he published himself on the internet - refers to wanting "proper, straight sex" with a man after Robin's operation in Thailand.

It's a recurring theme.

India Willoughby famously made a pass at a straight man and was outraged to be rebuffed. Juno Dawson reckon's he's with a straight man. In fact he said 'A lot of gay men are gay men as a consolation prize, because they couldn't be women'.

They must know, because deep down they know what their own sexuality is, and how it can't be changed, that straight men wouldn't be interested in men. However many operations they've had.

Or perhaps they don't. Perhaps the propaganda machine, that they themselves eventually contribute to, just keeps persuading these men that straight men will view them as women.

It's rather awful. You go to all that trouble, removing really quite essential body parts, for nothing.

Just listened to WH from Monday and was quite surprised to hear a very deep voice. I'm not familiar with the appearance of the speaker but as a new listener it sounded like a man arguing for access to women's spaces. Not sure what the radio version of "optics" is but surely this is an own goal?

Every autobiography of an adult trans person that I have read details one or more of following: deeply homophobic upbringing; deeply sexist upbringing; unchecked bullying; abuse. In their own words.

I have huge empathy for these often horrific experiences. I can even understand transition on a person level, although I firmly believe deep psychotherapy and work around self acceptance would be far more effective. I don't think it's insulting to suggest this: Lots of women need therapy too to deal with growing up in this world.

The huge fuck up is when people who self identify as progressive read these accounts and agree that deception, drugs and surgery are the answer. That they are so much the answer we'd better start looking for kids who've suffered from sexism and homophobia too and suggest deception, drugs and surgery to them.

I can't compute the sheer stupidity of the people who support this, not realising they're essentially agreeing with the homophobia and the sexism.

You are so right.

RMW has put so much information in the public domain, it hardly seems fair to penalise people for discussing it.

I've never seen that before. So Robin sees a chap on the train and gets a little tingle and dreams about him. And says he's had to hide that part of him away because it's so difficult, dangerous and unfulfillable?

Is this an admission of what the Tavistock were talking about when they said they were transing away the gay?

And secondly, what kind of environment do these men live in, or were raised in, where they simply can't stop, indeed, will go to the ends of the Earth, to use women to satisfy their own ends?

Does it never occur to them not to do it, I wonder.

Seriestwo · 13/05/2025 20:47

RMW can get things deleted as much as RMW likes and all that makes me notice is how very entitled RMW is.

Women don’t behave like that, women don’t tend to silence other women.

”Passing” is difficult, even digitally .

SirChenjins · 13/05/2025 19:42

RMW is a man who presents his idea of womanhood to the world. Like all TW, he remains as male as he was on the day he was born. I have no problem with him wishing to present in that way, the world would be a boring place if we were all the same - but his refusal to accept that women have the right to refuse him is a male trait we’re all acutely aware of.

I noticed this on RMW’s blog and it seems salient:

The serious point, if there is one, is that I have no intention of throwing away or denying the parts of me which have made me me and which I enjoy. There is no prospect of my taking up cross-stitch or flower arrangeing in the near future.

RMW will of course be the man he always was -but just in a cosmetically constructed vaguely female-appearing body and stereotypical female clothes.

WarriorN · 12/05/2025 16:43

RMW compared themselves with a young boy - asking why could a boy go in to the women’s loos with his mother and RMW couldn’t.

the problem here is that RMW is an adult male. It’s not breaking the law to say that nor is it offensive. It’s objective reality.

Edited

Did he now? How odd. Why would he compare himself to a male child, if he is definitely a woman?
But then again, I understand he also argued that GC women should have their own separate toilets if they don’t want to share with him. Um, yes, I think lots of us can get on board with that, Rob.
He’s a bit of a dullard.

As for personal comments, are threads about Meghan Markle and Katie Price deleted in their entirety as soon as the inevitable personal attacks start? Or is it just that FWR is being policed differently, yet again?

DogPawsMud · 12/05/2025 19:13

How very ironic that a quick internet search immediately threw up examples of this person being very personal indeed about Maya Forstater on Twitter/X.
Seems this person can give but not take.

The conversation has now fractured over 2 topic threads and this deletion which is even more frustrating! Thanks MN.

Keeptoiletssafe · 12/05/2025 18:12

I just got an email to say 20 people had reacted to my post but when I clicked the link it was the thread that was gone! Frustrating.

It would have been nice for there to have been a debate.

BeckyAMumsnet · 12/05/2025 14:25

Hi all, We're happy to clarify why the previous thread was deleted. We absolutely do allow discussion of public figures and their media appearances, and we're not in the business of shielding people from criticism, particularly where public commentary or legal arguments are involved. But we also expect threads to stick to the substance of what’s been said or done in the public domain rather than veering into personal territory. In this case, the thread had crossed that line for us. The fact that the person is also a Mumsnet user added an extra layer, and on balance, we felt removal was the right call.
We’re not trying to stifle discussion by any means but we do ask that it stays forthright without tipping into the personal, as that helps no one.
Thanks.

What was personal? I know I mentioned his hobbies, hobbies which I know he has because he talks about them on his social media and/or Antiques Roadshow on BBC1

Maybe trans age will be the next thing 😞

And the answer is safeguarding. It's glaringly obvious safeguarding is an alien concept to him. There's a reason it's usually boys up to 8 or so go in the women's with their mothers then in the men's. It's called male puberty, which I believe Robin has some lived experience of.

Incidentally I have had several conversations with Mums really worried about their sons going alone into the men's from about 8/9 if no Dad around because it's adult males who commit most sex crimes and we all know this.

Third spaces are good for these situations too.

I used to think they were a good idea then I researched and found third spaces aren’t that great because they are private rooms where you can’t be seen or heard.

I sympathise with the boys going into male toilets alone by 9/10. If there’s door gaps it makes the toilets safer as there’s a degree of visibility so everyone can see how many there are in the cubicle and hear what’s going on. So hopefully it would prevent behaviour happening in the first place.

It not ideal but I have found that it seems to be privacy that causes safety problems.

If the third spaces also had door gaps that would be radical but safer. I don’t think the country is ready for that yet!

WarriorN · 12/05/2025 17:42

As MrsOvertonsWindow has pointed out elsewhere, the trans community do rather like to use children as shields. The concept of the trans child is valuable for adults to cement the idea that they always were. Instead of the man who “came out” aged 65 after spending too much time on the internet on certain sites.

FFS, delete a whole thread because some posts commented on his appearance and behaviour but it's okay for him to unjustly criticise and want to shut all women, apart from his fawners, up. Way to go.

Why not repost here a take down of his position re his reading of Supreme Court judgement? I found the commentary quite illuminating.

Maybe the good judges may come across it and be bemused that a qualified member of their bar might have quite a “eccentric” interpretation of their 80 page ruling.
