More details re the Darlington nurses. I don’t know what to say. This is outrageous. Just fucking outrageous.

The reddit thread I linked to 👆links to the DM article about the nurse.
The author of the reddit thread writes: "trigger warning: the article is very transphobic".

It is so, so telling. Not "trigger warning, the article is traumatic/shocking/upsetting to read" etc etc.

No. The one and only concern here is that what the nurse says is "transphobic".

TheOtherRaven · 13/05/2025 08:17

Its one of those learned nonsense phrases like 'microaggressions' and 'dogwhistle' and so on, that just gets trotted out ad nauseum.

It basically means 'stop saying things that risk me not getting what I want'.

It's toddler stuff, it really is. To look at this situation and blame the women for thwarting this man is just beyond ridiculous to anyone with the capacity for a grip.

Meanwhile in TRA-la-la land, the nurse is accused of "weaponising her abuse" in order to exclude transwomen. Ah, such empathy. (Mumsnet gets a mention though!)
https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1kkaiyv/how_can_we_react_to_terfs_weaponizing_their_abuse/

What I always think when they accuse women of "weaponizing their abuse" (after I've calmed down and stopped throwing things) is that the exact same thing could be said to them about their claims of discrimination and terrible treatment by society. According to their own (deluded) thought process, aren't they also "weaponizing their (supposed) abuse" in order to take away women's rights and spaces and treat us with vile contempt?

The difference, of course, is that women actually are abused on a terrifying scale (by men), while they are pampered and catered to by most of society.

RexsSoupCan · 12/05/2025 14:33

Fucking hell that is awful. All power to the Darlington Nurses

Yup

theres no point talking to these people, they’re nuts

what’s important is making sure those in power understand that they’re nuts

This.

You cannot reason with this, all you can do is have very clear and firm boundaries and consequences for breaking them.

RethinkingLife · 12/05/2025 13:55

I badly need to re-read Timur Kuran’s preference falsification book (Private Truths, Public Lies).

Can anyone remember if there’s anything in there about quiet resisters and how leadership emerges?

I know he wrote a fairly technical paper on ‘The vulnerability of the Arab State: Reflections on the Ayubi Thesis’.

Writing about the Tunisian Revolution and fall of Zine el-Abedine Ben Ali, Kuran wrote:

A shock that impels a few people to vocalize their grievances and demand reforms may catalyze a bandwagon process that resets the terms of acceptable public discourse and renders the incumbent regime unsustainable. Moreover, a bandwagon that topples one Arab autocracy may encourage covert dissidents in other Arab states to press their own cases, thus fueling a Domino effect that alters the social landscape through much, if not all, of the Arab world.

On a different scale, I don’t know where we are at with a comparable social sense of what is at stake here on so many levels. The anti-democratic actions of the epistemic and lanyard classes. The complete capture of so many organisations.

Can CLAWs prevail without a harmful catalyst? It seems that even support from the Supreme Court, or the current tribunals aren’t enough? Is this a lack of awareness or wider indifference, socialisation, and misogyny?

Gleefully encouraged by his bosses, and can report any woman who won't comply.

I know we use the word dystopian a lot, but it truly is.

Exactly! His repeated "why aren't you getting changed" query was his way of reminding her of this fact.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/05/2025 13:19

the whole thing is infuriating. Also be warned, the article is a very hard read. Don't go there unless you are feeling very robust.

Agreed. I'm having to read it in stages.

Crazy that 26 woman have complained about this male but his wants were allowed (are they still bring allowed?) to trump safety, concerns, the feelings of 26 women. Yet aren't these men supposed to be vulnerable. I call bullshite on his vulnerability.

Edited

He's a brick shithouse, an absolute unit of a dude. It's true that even if he were built like a weed and you could flick him and he'd fall over, he'd still not belong in the women's changing room because he's a man, but if we are talking vulnerability, he's not the example. Dude doesn't even begin to look like a lady. Dude looks like a Land Rover.

There are no three words more offensive than these. Abuse is the weapon. Men are the ones deploying it - against women. Ergo, women need single sex spaces and services.

If men would be so good as to desist from abusing women in the first place, there wouldn't be any abuse to 'weaponise'.

As for weapons-grade fucking arseholes, take your pick.

I would imagine there are way more women than the 26 who signed. Women are afraid to sign things so it takes brave ones to actually do it.

I’m a clinician turned manager who left the NHS over a different issue, but for what it is worth, the managers actually can’t win either. I left because I was faced with having to implement impossible targets after the Lansley reforms. My choice was to agree (and be performance managed on) unachievable targets dreamed up by external consultants or leave. When I attempted to show, with data, why the targets could not be delivered, I was told off for being negative. I’m certain that there will be managers who have tried to challenge gender ideology and who will have been put back in the box, or who like me, have quietly left. That the NMC, RCN, CQC along with dozens of other organisations are captured, means there is no support for dissenters.

What I do think however, is that a lot of quiet resisters are still in place. If the right guidance and leadership is introduced those resisters will be in a better place to hold the line.

Thank you.

Let's hope the quiet resistors start standing up for women. Let's hope men will no longer be put before women in women's spaces to make them feel better. Predators allowed to smirk at a clearly traumatised woman and ask why she won't get changed in front of him whilst he is stood there in underpants clearly showing he is a male with male genitals in a woman's space.

This is so gross I don't even have the words.

This movement is so blatantly woman-hating. It's actually disgusting.

I think @KnottyAuty interpreted the “26 in one workplace alone” as meaning there are 26 TiMs in one NHS workplace. As we’re auditing the NHS trans policies, I’m sure she wanted to know which trust that was so that we could pay closer attention to it.

The pp above was, I think, referring to the women affected by the NHS policies - so, yes, in Darlington. So, a misinterpretation on @KnottyAuty’s part maybe - but maybe an overreaction on yours? We’re all on the same side here.

Aye, calm down @Brefugee ! She just misinterpreted sth. @KnottyAuty is doing sterling work leading the audit project.

But I think there were said to be three TWs in Sandie Peggie's hospital.
I don't know how big a hospital that is, but multiply that by the number of hospitals in the country, and there will be a lot.

I've not checked back, but from memory it think it was 3 trans people - not necessarily all TW.

Sinner's post referred to the 26 women directly impacted at Darlington. 26 women complained there and those were rejected by HR.

Only 8 have gone forward to be listed on the tribunal case. And of those only a handful have publicly been named.
