"How the hell did this happen?"

An ideology can behave in a parasitic way when it embeds itself into an existing institution, organization, or cultural framework.

It exploits the host's resources. Like a biological parasite, the ideology draws on the credibility, infrastructure, funding, or membership of the host organization without necessarily contributing to its original purpose. A political ideology such as GI infiltrates a charity or educational institution and redirecting its resources toward ideological activism rather than its stated mission.

As a classic TRA tactic it suppresses dissent. A parasitic ideology often discourages questioning or criticism, enforcing conformity through social pressure, reputation damage, or internal policies. Employees or members may feel unable to challenge the dominant ideology for fear of being ostracized or labelled as a bigot.

Over time, the ideology can reshape the organization’s language, values, and objectives to align more with its own goals, often distorting or replacing the original mission.

Parasitic ideologies often spread via training programs, mandatory workshops, or policy changes, embedding themselves deeper and ensuring replication across departments or organizations. "Diversity and inclusion" frameworks that include ideological tenets have become required in hiring, curriculum, or performance reviews.

Ultimately, the host organization is weakened and becomes less effective at fulfilling its original function because decision-making becomes ideologically driven rather than evidence-based or mission-focused.

Have people seen this statement on X yesterday?

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust on X: "🌈 Last week, our Board & Executive Team met with reps from the LGBTQ+ Staff Network to show their full support. Together, we’re committed to shaping an inclusive workplace, led by lived experience & open dialogue. 💬 #TeamCDDFT https://t.co/YViz83L9F5" / X

The ratio is quite something in favour of women not being forced to undress in front of men and pointing out that they don't seem to care about women's lived experience nor open dialogue with their own female nurses.

I did have to check to see if the account was real and not a spoof because I couldn't quite believe they'd be so blatant about pursuing activism rather than healthcare and relying on 'lived experience' rather than the law and evidence-based medicine, especially after Wes Streeting had to tell them to follow the law. Lots of comments of LGB people saying the TQ+ do not represent them too. Currently at 74k views and 26 likes....

At some point people really need to lose their jobs, surely? It's barely disguised open defiance of the government and the law.

The NHS has been absolutely captured for years. Obviously this is not everybody, but I know a fair few people in the NHS, including nurses and consultant level doctors, usually intelligent and compassionate people, and this is the one issue that makes their brains fall out of their ears and start spitting "I don't care!" when you mention patient vulnerability. I'm not exaggerating when I say you mention transgenderism and they go into an altered mental state where black is white and dissent is evil.

I apologise to all NHS people who aren't this wilfully thick and dangerous, I definitely don't wish to imply that everyone there is like this, but an alarming number are and it's often the last people you'd expect. I think in years to come, scientists could actually study how this insanity became so baked in among health professionals who cannot possibly not realise it's absurd. It is actually frightening. What the hell happened?

Absolutely. It beggars belief that these people are still in post, openly breaking the law and wasting hundreds of thousands pounds of taxpayers' money defending legal cases they don't have a hope of winning.

Initially I suppose the first crop of cases that come to tribunal will be where staff can genuinely claim they were following Trust policy and getting in a muddle…. But after a few losses and official policy changes there will be individuals who find themselves at Tribunal and their Trust will claim the employer’s defence/ignorance…. And it will be the individuals as named respondents who are liable for costs. Too many of these people have no grasp of the unlawfulness of their actions or that they might ever be held liable but it will happen. It’s just a matter of when

ETA which is why it would be useful to have Kate Searle as R3 on Sandie Peggie’s case. It could save the public purse a fortune - otherwise we have to wait maybe two years

Executive and Non Executive Directors :: County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust

Name and shame the lot of them. How they can tweet that message after trying to punish Karen Danson by allowing the man who had been harassing her in the female changing room to be present at her surgery. Institutional abuse. Should be criminal. Absolutely need to go.

The CEO previously worked in finance. Surely the massive legal costs of breaking the law should be a consideration? They are clearly personally invested and have shown their decision making abilities are compromised as they have openly defied direct instructions from the Secretary of State for Health now as well as the law. I would guess yes, a trans relative somewhere in here, but they clearly cannot make decisions according to the law or discharge their PSED or act according to the Nolan principles and should be sacked.

This is it - it's really unprofessional. I'm sure most patients served by this hospital know about the Darlington nurses case so putting this tweet out right after Wes Streeting has had to step in to protect female nurses is deliberately goading. It's acting as if they can act with impunity and ignore the law, safeguarding, and medicine in order to do what they want / pursue a nakedly activist agenda.

This.
Helpfully they're now identifiable from their photos so hopefully, at some stage in the future, can be held accountable for their illegal actions in the courts.

It’s so ruddy unprofessional

what you do in your own time is one thing, but at work you do what’s best for the organisation that allows you to pay your mortgage. That’s what being a professional employee means

and pushing your organisation to openly break the law ain’t it

Or they could use the single sex toilet corresponding to their biological sex in their block.
I would really like to think no-one would be “unsafe” in NHS staff toilets! And if they are that Trust has a big problem needing addressed

Have you seen the figures for sexual assaults within the NHS that include staff?

They are appalling and DO need addressing...

A man has told me he can't see a problem with Rose being in the changing room. Women wear bikinis on holiday and happily wander around in clothing that is far more skimpy than underwear in front of men, so therefore women can't complain about having to share a changing room with transwomen.

I'm lost for words.

All women? I think not. What a knob.

"My (NHS) employer has done the same for me. They wrapped it in ‘aren’t we being kind and supportive’ as they told me I had to use the unisex toilet in a different block from my office and gave me a key to that block - my block only has gendered facilities."

I saw this comment on trans reddit - so it seems like things are changing even within the NHS.

Ask him if he thinks women wearing bikinis on the beach means he can get his knob out on there too in front of everyone.

After all, if there's no difference between swimsuits on a non-nudist beach and nudity in a changing room...

I suspect he isn't actually that thick. He's just part of an alarmingly large cohort of misogynists who realise this movement gives men access to women's everything and as they don't like women having any spaces without male supervision, even just for changing, he's just jumping on any fuckwitted way of justifying men doing whatever the fuck they want. "She was wearing a bikini on the beach so she shouldn't complain if men want to see her naked in the changing room" is the new "she was wearing a short skirt". He's not stupid, he's misogynistic and rapey, so of course he's on board with a movement that legitimises that and even calls it liberal and progressive.

Well he's just proved how utterly stupid and hard of thinking he is.

That's a worthwhile piece of knowledge.

BettyFilous · 11/06/2025 07:41

Many women are not comfortable in bikinis and choose to stay covered up. Your man also seems oblivious to religious dress requirements.

Perhaps you should ask him if he'd go to work in a pair of speedos?

That's exactly what I would have thought of saying when I was half way home. I would have been stunned speechless at the idiocy in the moment

Yes I was thinking the same. Why should women need to disclose their GC belief to have a female only space to which they are entitled to and need for reasons of privacy and dignity?

It will just open up a world of trouble for them legally.

The 'women's changing room' is not inclusive for the population that under law women is supposed to serve in terms of equality.

It is for women and men with particular beliefs.

It excludes other women and it excludes other men.

That would be so easy to take to court that the NHS might as well just get their chequebook out now.

ThatCyanCat · 09/06/2025 15:05

I am soo disappointed with WH.

You shouldn't be...they've made it clear for a long time now just how far downwards one's expectations should have been revised.

I wonder if these knobheads will ever stop to realise that prioritising men over women, acting like women don't exist and feeding women utter moralistic bullshit over it is just about as unprogressive as it's possible to get.

Women's Hour, who have changed their strapline to "Women's voices and women's lives - topical conversations to inform, challenge and inspire" since their Supreme Court fortnight have just had the male editor of Nursing Times on to talk about the nurses 3.6% pay award. Given the news about the Darlington nurses at the weekend you would have thought he would have been asked about that?

I am soo disappointed with WH. I had only just started listening when it turned out they were in the process of hounding Jenny Murray out and starting to platform men to speak as if they were women.

A bigger let down to women I think we’d struggle to find (apart from the WI, many nursing unions, the Fawcett Society etc etc)

BundleBoogie · 09/06/2025 14:50

TwoLoonsAndASprout · 09/06/2025 10:39

Oh I don’t disagree, but as I say, the pressure not to be seen to be transphobic - where official policies make virtually anything transphobic - is huge. They could have said “it’s because of the legal dispute,” but if there was even a small chance that someone would have seen even that as detrimental to “Rose,” I can imagine there could have been second thoughts.

I don’t know - you would hope people would behave respectfully, or at least intelligently, but as we keep seeing, they really don’t. But we can’t possibly know why.

I hear what you’re saying and do agree re lower level staff but if that is what happened I find it very sad and still quite horrifying that no one with some power had the will to stand up to this.

Otherwise that gives him ultimate power over the actions of the whole organisation and the ability to sexually harass women with impunity - which I guess he did.
