Here’s a question for you all. As an employer, if someone complains to me about a trans woman or man or trans man using the “wrong” bathroom, how do I know? How do you know? Their employment records etc will be in their given name. I’m not going to ask them to undress. I’m more likely to give the complainant a friendly warning about harassment without evidence. Soz.

I have a question for you. If a man is in your female bathroom (do you mean lavatory, rather than a washing facility?) and says he’s a transwoman, how do you know for sure that he’s not really a voyeur or flasher?

When the automatic doors slide open is there a smoke machine and a spotlight. ✨Tonight, Matthew, I’m gonna be …✨🦄

NeedToChangeName · 08/05/2025 15:29

I'll never understand this. If institutions really want to be inclusive and support their community, where are the flags supporting people with poor health, learning difficulties, caring responsibilities, domestic abuse etc?

Why do they only care about being inclusive to Stonewall?

BundleBoogie · 08/05/2025 15:27

This was supposed to be quoting pps post about the flags and them being off putting to some.

On TRA Reddit it seems that there are plans to ban Barclays from taking part in any Pride events.

I haven't been to pride for 20 years. When I did attend there weren't all these organisations and retailers in the parade. Just people. And when they kicked out the lesbians I swore I wouldn't go again anyway. It's nothing like it used to be.

BundleBoogie · 08/05/2025 15:25

I guess Lloyd’s can truthfully point out that the version of the rainbow flag they use is nothing to do with anyone gay.

Igneococcus · 08/05/2025 15:25

I don't get it. All those transwomen who are so successful at passing nobody can ever tell that they aren't women but it's always the ones that are obvious to absolutely everyone that they interview on TV/radio/newspaper.

GreenFriedTomato · 08/05/2025 15:21

@ThisOpenMauveLurker I see your point
And you've just reminded me of the scientology place in town (that I've avoided since they caught me several decades ago)

Greyskybluesky · 08/05/2025 15:19

@TransAlly Then you would be on very shaky ground if you haven't any evidence yourself of any actual "harassment" having taken place. Soz.

A few years ago all the banks changed their app icons to a rainbow, then after receiving a lot of complaints (particularly from Muslim groups) they stopped doing it.

A lot of people (particularly religiously conservatives) were concerned that could incorrectly be labelled as gay due to the app's icon.

Funny thing about my visit there was while I was in the waiting area, the only other customers were an elderly couple and several Muslims. It just seemed bizarre to focus solely on progress nonsense. You'd have thought they'd also chuck in a few posters of hijabi women and people with disabilities for example, if they wanted to appear truly inclusive to their customers.
Some people could be forgiven for thinking it was an LGBTQiaetc specific bank and I can see how it might put some customers off.

It's usually pretty obvious and if it isn't who's going to complain?

Let's be honest most of us don't need someone's pronouns shoved down our throats to know what sex they are, we have a visceral reaction and all the frocks and lipstick in the world can't change that.

The complainant who you have given a friendly warning to would be in a position to take you to a tribunal for harrassment and possible victimisation under the Equality Act

Also, Soz, have you kept note of the tribunals involving employers who have discriminated against or bullied staff for their gender critical views?

Do you actually have baths at work?

I would think that if I know, then you also know. Soz.

Let me ask you a question, do you really think that you, as an employer, are likely to be beset by complaints about secretly, possibly trans people, which you would only be able to investigate by asking them to undress?

As an employer, or as a retail bank? It's a weird one, they've gone so OTT. Are there really young people starting out in financial services, who will choose their employer on the basis of how loudly they shout about celebrating diverse gender expression? And are these kids really unmissable top talent?

Well it's got them a lot of 'youth-facing' media attention!

I imagine the employer stance is being driven by internal TRAs, but they have possibly convinced top-brass that it will bring in young punters for that precious first bank account that all the high street banks chase

I'm sure a large amount of this is signalling to the 'youth' in a competitive market. Same with BBC and IOC,who have been worried about falling youth audience figures, and Green Party, SNP etc all chasing the youth vote. This won't end until we root it out of schools and other services for children so that the next generation of young adults are GI-free.

Ooh I love this, I’ve always chosen my bank based on the flags in the branch instead of the ISAs they offer or the interest rate on their savers accounts. Go Lloyds!

I wonder what the top brass at Lloyd’s think about the YTS kids draping flags across branch windows? Looks very unprofessional.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/05/2025 14:37

I've been watching repeats of Dad's Army this week. I miss the days when banks were run by people like Captain Mainwaring.

JasmineAllen · 08/05/2025 13:45

I bet Barclays are really sad about that (not) 😂

Crying into their money I should think.

BingoWindow · 08/05/2025 14:03

I near a long grudge - I think I'm still boycotting Barclays because of South Africa in the 1980s but I do lose track.
