This isn't the first time this has happened is it? I expect IMHO there will be more cases like this happening given the current obsession with trans people and how masculine or feminine people look.

"A woman and her girlfriend were thrown out of a luxurious five-star hotel after a security guard allegedly accused her of being a man using a female bathroom.
Ansley Baker and her partner, Liz Victor, were at the Liberty Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts, attending a Kentucky Derby party on Saturday.

The couple was using the women’s restroom in the foyer when they heard a bang on the stall doors, they told CBS News Boston.
Baker said she was in one of the stalls as Victor waited around the corner near the sinks. The hotel says that security was alerted by several women that the couple was sharing a single stall. Baker and Victor deny being in the same stall.
The male security guard allegedly began urging Baker, who was born a woman and identifies as a woman, to get out of the bathroom and accused her of being a man
“All of a sudden there was banging on the door,” Baker told the local news station. “I pulled my shorts up. I hadn't even tied them. One of the security guards was there telling me to get out of the bathroom, that I was a man in the women's bathroom. I said, ‘I'm a woman.’”"

It's always the big apple 😂

It is impossible to tell if a person is a man or a woman by looking at them - obviously.
Masculine/androgynous cis women are now in a position where they will have to ‘prove’ that they are cis women. What will they have to so to prove this and who/m will judge them?
This entire circus show is detracting everyone from the very real issues cis/trans women and trans men face.

Is this parody? I can’t tell anymore.

Boiledbeetle · 07/05/2025 17:34

Gosh! If only some idiots hadn't been so willing to let any Tom Dick or Harry into women's single sex spaces the social contract would have remained in place.

Chris you can post as many links as you like as often as you like, but we still don't men in women's single sex spaces.

Annoyedone · 07/05/2025 17:29

@dylexicdementor11 please don’t use the word cis. It is extremely transphobic. Educate yourself. Do better.

That's easy. All women will have to show ID to enter women's spaces.
The law of unintended consequences.

blubbyblub · 07/05/2025 16:10

Huh? No it doesn’t. How does it suggest that?

It literally says in the OP that the report was made about two people in the same stall (which the couple deny being the case)

I've said this before so apologies. But...I'm nearly 60 yrs old, tall, shortish hair, never wear a frock, blah, blah. I've been mistaken for a bloke frequently since childhood, still happens perhaps once a year. Not just in toilets but can be something like being called 'mate' by a random stranger in the supermarket. You know what? It doesn't bother me at all. Invariably, I just speak or turn round and the other person apologises or looks embarrassed. If it starts happening more often and more aggressively, I'll be really pissed off that men using women's facilities has led to this.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 07/05/2025 17:17

"Insane thing happens in USA" isn't exactly news is it? The entire country is a complete bin fire at the moment.

On the plus side, noone got shot so that probably counts as a good outcome over there.

“So a man invaded the women's loos instead of a female staff member going in, based on an inaccurate report, and this is somehow gender-critical women's fault? First Rule of Misogyny right there.”

If there were concerns there was a man in women’s lavs, wouldn't it be riskier for a woman to go in and deal with it?

Send two women in then. What I don't want, if I'm being sexually assaulted, is another man turning up because he might be there to join in.

Devonshiregal · 07/05/2025 17:16

Christinapple · 07/05/2025 16:02

Trump's America. One could say they are just as "gender critical" as Britain is.

What? Don’t even get what you mean but basically a couple were making people feel uncomfortable in the loos - in reality the probably went into the loos of a fancy hotel to get frisky in the stalls, someone complained and the security guard asked them to leave, they weren’t leaving (because it takes so long to pull up your pants right?) and he got annoyed and they had a rude exchange - maybe he did says she was a man. Maybe he thought she was or he was being a dick who knows.

here’s the thing though, even if a lovely woman was doing nothing wrong and a security guard though she was a man and asked her to leave, what do you suppose we do? I’m guessing you think the way to avoid embarrassment for the one in 300million Americans who have been kicked out of a loo for looking masculine is to let men use women’s loos freely so no one has to question it… is that right?

or is it just men who wear dresses? should we still kick up a fuss if a man who “looks like a man” comes in to our loos? What if he’s slapped on some lippy? At what level of maleness do we scream? or do we need to keep our mouths shut for fear of offending a man who might not like being called a man?

Why say cis when you could have said woman?

Do you have any uk reports?

They have to use Newspeak. If they hadn’t clarified it was a “cis” or in old speak “female” lesbian, then it wouldn’t have had the same impact. People would be wondering if it might have been one of those newfangled “male lesbians” and most people agree they shouldn’t be in women’s toilets anyway.

Oddly, like every other “cis” lesbian who’s had this happen and complained to the press, rather than saying lesbians like her were being unfairly treated, she made this unrelated comment:

“It was a very scary situation, but trans women experience this every single day in the US and across the world.”

Why all the lesbians this happens to are more concerned about men than about their fellow lesbians is a mystery

🤔

Yes, I can see this being a thing

How could you approach a trans woman in a female bathroom and ask them to leave as they would just tell you they are a woman and then question if you are even a real woman…..it would just go nowhere

SilenceInside · 07/05/2025 17:06

Reading this story makes me think that some Americans are very entrenched in ideas about gender, expectations of what women should look like. So short hair and tall is enough to be considered significantly “gender non-conforming”. The apparent mistake wasn’t that they thought this woman was a transwoman, they thought she was male. So it’s not anything to do with being a lesbian or someone being trans. It’s about how some Americans expect people to conform to traditional gender roles and haven’t got the capacity to recognise that women can be tall and have short hair. Which is interesting and disappointing, but tells me nothing about the UK and the recent ruling of the Supreme Court.

Tulipsontoast · 07/05/2025 17:06

I’m also not sure that her (the WOMAN’S) sexuality had anything to do with it? Did it tick another box?

If I got a report that a man and a woman were in a toilet cubicle, my concern would be that a sexual assault was taking place. I would hope that, were I being sexually assaulted in a women's loo, that a female staff member would investigate and intervene. What do you think should happen, Chris? That the staff should shrug and say "nothing we can do, we might be accused of transphobia if we try"? Who benefits from deterring bystander intervention, and who is harmed?
