“It certainly doesn’t make a single woman any safer to do that because the threat to women comes from predatory and abusive men.”

You don't get it, do you Nic love? I don't have enough eye-rolls for the idea that trans-identified men are never predatory or abusive, especially in the face of so much evidence to the contrary.

"The former first minister and SNP leader added that it is not “inevitable” that the judgment will make the lives of transgender people “impossibly difficult”, but there was a “danger” that certain interpretations could put transgender rights at risk."

What rights? The SC ruling clarified the law as it is and always has been, which is that trans people don't have the right to treated as if they were the opposite sex. Or does she just mean "It's really unfair that they're going to have to abide by the same rules as everyone else rather than demanding special privileges"?

Transgender people’s lives at risk of being made ‘unliveable,’ says Nicola Sturgeon

I have always disliked NS so can only imagine how it must feel for those that did see her as a positive force, once upon a time. Betrayed probably doesn't even begin to cover it.

I also can't look at a picture of her let alone hear her speak before the rage takes over.

As for those she fears may find their lives "unliveable" because they can't get something that was never theirs to have in the first place, I think they should take some advice from Mridul Wadhwa and "reframe their trauma".

It hurts. A lot. The betrayal is off the scale. And it's the fact she has no shame either and refuses to go away or even apologise. It's the worst thing about her. No humility, no introspection, no empathy for women, actual women, who she has betrayed over and over again. I have friends who gave so much of their time and energy campaigning for her and doing all the groundwork, talking to people on the streets, building up hope for a better future. They did all this FOR FREE and all that time she was pandering to a small subset of men intent on destroying women's rights to privacy, dignity and safety. She's beyond appalling. It destroyed the independence movement too. I'm actually glad about that now, as that horrible self ID law would be law now and we'd be as bad as or worse off than Canada.

This provoked some overthinking on my part. Maybe I'm getting a taste of the intellectual masturbation which allowed this ideology to take hold.

Anyway

Stating that transwomen were born male seems to have such a massive impact it upends humanity itself.
But stating they are women has no impact at all on anyone.

Yet transwomen are simultaneously born male and sre women so both statements have to be true. So there is a massive impact and no impact all at once.

Hmm raisonnement à l'absurde or divine transformation.

Shrodinger’s penis. Or perhaps Shrodinger’s pink leggings.

It’s testament that we’re in such a dire state of affairs that my first reaction on hearing her speak on this was “well, at least she didn’t lie about what the law says” like lots of elected politicians have.

How insane that the standard we’ve come to expect from our parliamentary representatives is so utterly, utterly low.

Regarding the threat to women being from abusive men, I would argue that the only reason NS feels able to distinguish between transwomen and other men is because she is giving them what they want and agreeing with them that they should be allowed to trample women’s rights.

The majority of women who’ve said “no” to transwomen can obviously see that transwomen fall squarely into the category of abusive men, as they’ve been on the receiving end of their abuse.

Ah, the wistful stare into the middle distance, the gently-wringing hands...the sound of my blood pressure whooshing past an acceptable level...

Sorry, Otter, should have put a wee warning on.

NotMyRealAccount · 06/05/2025 16:31

Supposed "allies" like Nicola Sturgeon who are pushing the victim narrative and whipping up panic about "life won't be worth living" and "everyone hates trans people" instead of trying to support a rational and practical response to the Supreme Court judgement and EHRC guidance are a big part of the problem.

As an ex SNP voter I actually can't even look at her picture now without feeling a complete and utter rage at her wilful betrayal of women and girls.

She actively made things worse for women and girls. She has also made things worse for those she claims to defend by lying to them and promising them things that were impossible. She has made things worse for this country. She has no shame.

It used to really piss me off during Covid when people in England would go on about how lucky we were in Scotland to have Nicola Sturgeon in charge rather than Boris!
Err no! Have you actually tried living under her “regime”? It’s not a race to the bottom, just because less waffle came out of her mouth when she stood in her wee podium every day didn’t mean Scotland was faring any better

TheOtherRaven · 06/05/2025 16:14

Its all just end to end untrue.

Isla Bryson was as trans as anyone else, that's what self ID is.

The only way to make 'trans lives liveable' is to make women's lives unliveable and remove their equality and rights in law.

I'm disgusted that a woman is all for that. A powerful woman who will never suffer what she is so happy to hand over other women to.

Misspotterer · 06/05/2025 16:14

Fucks sake. She literally trashed her career over this nonsense and she's still banging on about the 0.00001%
Is sturgeon in fact a trans woman herself maybe? I really can't think of another reason for her lunacy.

Toilets could be the most lovely, sociable mixed sex places in the world, and I still wouldn’t be able to use a urinal.

It's interesting that it's mostly the people on the TRA side that bring up VAWG when talking about trans people.

When in actual fact, women are voicing their concerns over many issues, fairness in sport, privacy, dignity, equal representation, etc.

It's not us saying that trans people are a threat to women. We are saying that women as a class are vulnerable to men as a class.

But it's people like Nicola who immediately make the link between dangerous men and transwomen.

Weird.

It's like their argument is just "Is anyone actually raping you or murdering you? No? So what's the problem then?" Because they can't see any issue as relates to women other than the limited ones which would occur to most men.

She means that she's driven by her ego and her primary motivation is never, ever, ever to admit she fucked up, no matter what colossal harm is caused by her stupidity, hubris, conceit and dishonesty. She could not be less of a stateswoman if she tried. She has put her ego above the interests of every person in her country. She needs to fuck off.

dubaichocolate · 06/05/2025 15:56

I’m just reposting what I put on the other thread.

You’ve played a massive part in making trans lives unliveable, Nicola. We only got to this point because of you and your government’s actions. If you really care about trans people then maybe reflect on that. (Not that I think what she’s saying about trans lives is true, to be clear.)

Ha! You beat me to it Eresh!

parietal · 06/05/2025 15:48

even if transwomen were no threat, the problem is that there is no formal way to distinguish a 'genuine transwoman' from a 'creep who says I-am-trans'.

that is why it is essential to keep all men out of female toilets and changing rooms.

SidewaysOtter · 06/05/2025 15:44

EweSurname · 06/05/2025 15:35

What rights? The SC ruling clarified the law as it is and always has been, which is that trans people don't have the right to treated as if they were the opposite sex.

The EHCR had guidance saying that something different though (although they’ve made it very clear now), so I can see why people were confused. It wasn’t just stonewall getting ahead of the law, the regulatory bodies got it wrong too

Edited

Well quite, except Sturgeon, like so many of her ilk, is doubling down in the face of clarification of what the law actually is. Sunk costs fallacy, I expect.

And as for saying trans lives could be "unliveable" - IMO that's feeding into the narrative about the alleged levels of suicide (which never seems to be evidenced and which thankfully don't seem to be true) which is harmful and dangerous, particularly when vulnerable people are already upset by the ruling.

OP posts:
Merrymouse · 06/05/2025 15:42

the threat to women comes from predatory and abusive men.

MVAWG could end tomorrow, and it still wouldn’t be possible to change sex and women would still need sex specific rights, including women who don’t identify as women.

Whether or not she owes an apology to women (I don’t think anyone expected one - she has never hidden her misogyny), she owes an apology to the genuinely vulnerable people she exploited, making promises she could not possibly keep.

Pleasantsort · 06/05/2025 15:37

So doubling down then Nicola. You won't be remember well. You tried to trample over women and girls' rights. No a chance in hell would we let you do that quietly.
