Does anyone else feel disheartened?

I was so elated at the ruling and the implications for women's sex-based protections.

And I am happy that certain media outlets have realised (begrudgingly in some cases) that refusing to air the concerns of women over the last decade has lead to a very one-sided debate. It's great to see orgs such as Sex Matters being quoted so extensively now.

However, I'm really disheartened by the sheer scale of the push back and by the fact that so many women don't support the ruling. I mean, why would anyone think that women don't deserve fair and safe sporting opportunities, for example? Why is it always women that are expected to forgo their rights?

The Supreme Court ruling should be definitive, but it doesn't feel like the end. There is the judge bringing the case to the ECHR (I know some legal experts have dismissed any chances of success), but I think activists are going to pile a lot of pressure on the government to make concessions and look at amending the law. The disquiet about the ruling amongst so many Labour MPs about the ruling is concerning me.

Is anyone else feeling a bit dejected?

I'll be honest. MBD's long howl of rage has cheered me up no end😀Thanks for the thread OP

You came here to berate us. But it doesn't matter. Women's rights have been upheld in law by the Supreme Court. And there's nothing that you - or any of the other men that object to this - can say or do to change that.

So keep ranting away, using your tired old arguments and misrepresentations. It's entirely irrelevant. We won - get over it.

This is all that needs to be said, really.

No, it doesn't help.

And yes, men claiming to be women are quite literally taking our prizes, having won in women's sports and pushed women off the podium.

Women have been assaulted in prison by men claiming to be women. And in hospital. And in toilets.

Just put yourself in our shoes for five minutes, imagine how it feels to know that you're physically weaker than almost every man you encounter, and that men are more likely to use violence than women, and picture going into the ladies ina club to escape some bloke who keeps touching you up even when you've asked him not to, and finding a man in there, too.

And the Supreme Court ruling has confirmed that all those men who have been in women's spaces should not have been.

Does that help?

Edited to correct rage-induced typo.

Edited

Unless you are talking about hotdog eating competitions, then you are quite literally making that up, and now you are really angry about it too.

I see a rough road ahead for you and the DD

OP, if you were feeling disheartened, I hope this thread is demonstrating why you've no need to be.

The rage and hatred shown by men on here, unfolding in real time and directed at women who dare to voice disagreement, is a perfect illustration of why our arguments were correct - and also of the fact that we've won.

The more men rage against women's rights, the more they demonstrate why we need them.

Thanks Arabella, I'm still catching up with the thread, but I am feeling better about things now.

The pushback was inevitable given how viciously the trans lobby has always gone after dissenters. I guess I just felt disappointment at how so many seemingly intelligent people would happily give away women's legal protections. Like those academic 'non-trans' feminists who wrote that open letter. But then you realise what a bubble these women and their luxury beliefs exist in, as evidenced by some of the absolutely daft claims in the letter, as well as all the strawmen arguments (we want to reduce women to their biological functions 🙄).

And I listened to Maya Forstater on the Triggernometry podcast, and I felt awed by her calmness, intelligence and rationality, and I know that amongst all the craziness there will be women like her chipping away and refusing to be cowed.

Do you know what @MadBadDaddy , after years of abuse by TRAs, any sympathy I had has been used up. So I honestly find it very hard to care about how you feel anymore. You certainly didn’t (and still don’t) care about our feelings.

Weird user name btw, I wonder what inspired it 🤔

Your petulant post blames everyone for your woes but yourself, the helpless victim of dark forces.

Your child sounds smart. A smart parent would have said "I love you and i trust you, and that's why I don't have to understand why what makes you happy, makes you happy. I have questions" instead of letting your fear and grief radicalise you ("trans identity politics") and drive a bigger wedge between you.

Intolerance destroys families. You're not the first and you won't be the last. It's never too late though, it's just you that has to change.

This is why us queers all love a "boring" coming out story.

I can't believe you think this post reflects well on you and what you stand for.

I guess once you've decided men can be women, every other distortion is easy. And we know there's quite a strong cohort that loves nothing more than alienating children from their parents.

If this is what you stand for, what do think about the common experience of parents whose children "go no contact" if the parents don't do and say exactly what they are told? This is my experience, because I struggled to avoid using the name and pronouns I had used for half a lifetime. I was screamed at, called a bigot, and abandoned to stew in my "transphobic" juice because I didn't instantly match my worldview to my son's new found worldview. I have no doubt that he has been taught that disagreement equals hatred. That is insane bullying, tantrumiing, intimidating and sulking his way through life. And it started only after his declaration of a trans identity.

I still have a hope that he will come back out of this appallingly intolerant worldview and remember what our family once was before it was destroyed by trans identity politics. We used to be able to disagree well. If trans people want to be fully accepted, they will have to drop the self righteousness and coercion, and "live and let live" without trying to control everyone around them.

Your DD is astute.

No-one is taking your prizes, and this country has recognised a transgender person's right to exist in society as their "acquired gender", which includes use of single sex spaces, for over 50 years. Does that help?

No, it doesn't help.

I came here to offer an opinion on why the world isn't rushing to agree with your awesome victory, and you have all affirmed my opinion wonderfully - it's not just that you don't see trans people as human, you are incapable of it.

Not legally or officially it hasn't. The concept of an "acquired gender" has not been around for 50 years. 'Transgender' is a recent construction. 'Gender Re-assignment' only became a protected category in 2004 and it did not give the right to use single sex spaces, as the supreme court has just made clear.

And whatever name you give to your imagined/adopted identity does not turn a man into a woman. 'Transgender' people are either male or female, just like the rest of us.

No-one believes your fairy story that trans people are insane bullies, tantruming, intimidating and sulking their way through life. The more you denigrate, dehumanise and vilify us, the more obvious who is being harmed and who is doing the harming becomes.

The Supreme Court ruling affirmed our status as a minority demographic, and worthy of protection by UK society. You might be less confused by people's reaction to your constant monstering of us if you respected that.

If this is what you stand for, what do think about the common experience of parents whose children "go no contact" if the parents don't do and say exactly what they are told? None of your juniors, only Actual Senior ones please.

Nah. Senior doesn't cut it. This press release regarding the only bit of research that I have seen from the Tavistock GIDS Clinic contains this weird gem

The paper, by a team of Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) clinicians and independent researchers, including eminent professors of medical statistics and paediatric endocrinology, reports on the cohort of 44 young people enrolled in the study between 2011 and 2014. The study also evaluated the efficacy of treatment and considered the persistence of gender dysphoria and decisions about future treatment.

TheOtherRaven · 03/05/2025 18:51

Horrible and mean for having rights in law and not handing them over to men and embracing the ongoing abuse.

Try reading the posts love. Actually reading them. Women are disheartened by realising how little they matter, how little anyone cares about what happens to women so long as men get what they want. The utter misogyny. The total lack of perceived value of actual women compared to men identifying as women.

Pretty much as you're demonstrating right here in real time.

ArabellaScott · 03/05/2025 18:50

TheOtherRaven · 03/05/2025 18:46

No, you just said it wasn't a genuine wish or a valid one, and women were 'gaslighting' when they said their privacy, safety and dignity had been affected.

So go on, make your point. If you have one.

It's just DARVO. As you noted upthread. Even our words and arguments get stolen and badly applied to the counter 'argument'. They fit about as well as womens clothes do, too.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/05/2025 18:50

I'm not making any comment on privacy safety and dignity, other than that was never going to be enough for you.

Why don't you let us have those things first and then see?

Try it. Try a little radical self acceptance. Try dressing and presenting as you wish, but not demanding access to women's spaces and using male or unisex ones instead. What do you think we would object to then?

Now a new YouGov study, the fourth in a series reaching back to 2018, shows an increased scepticism towards transgender rights across the board – and particularly in the two and a half years since our previous wave of this study.
Notable in this most recent study – conducted in mid-December – is the growing resistance on transgender rights among those groups that are typically more permissive on the issue, like women and young people.

There has been an erosion in support for trans rights since 2018

But you don't make the point. You have failed entirely to prove that women have NOT experienced issues with privacy , safety or dignity, or to prove why their voices aren't valid when they say so.

You've just ranted a lot about how horrible women are.
