Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Why are so many ‘cis’ men invested in the trans discussion ?

To me it seems more to be just a dislike of women of a certain age rather than a genuine respect for trans people. So many slurs about GC women being grey and middle aged, even ugly. Is it really just plain old misogyny ? Because we’re too uppity and outspoken, we’ve overtaken them in many spheres and that’s all they’ve got ?

It's made up nonsense, dreamt up by a social science researcher in 1994 to make women a subset of their own sex class. But you know this.

Any point to make about the OP?

If dictionaries have "made up nonsense" in them then I presume you will be contacting them with a complaint?

wokebrosrelative · 26/04/2025 23:37

NC because I’m paranoid. I have a family member like this. He’s full on twaw and treats his gf like shit but in that awful jokey way that might be excused for humour by anyone less experienced. He hates JKR and met her through work, claiming that she behaved appallingly at the event. Sure. His gf gets the blame for his mistakes. For example if he hurts himself by walking into the doorframe it’s her fault for not having held the door open for him
even though she had her hands full of luggage. She’s equally twaw and has been plastering Facebook with posts about how trans people have always existed and aren’t doing any harm etc. I got sick of it and unfriended them both because I can’t stand the hyperbole. He thinks taking HRT makes a man change sex but if I took testosterone, cut my hair short and continued to wear trousers I wouldn’t be a man. How’s that work then? The misogyny is there and barely concealed along with the obvious contempt for his girlfriend considering he was chatting me up and flirting with me not so long ago. I used to have a lot of time for him but he’s been less friendly since I called him out on his treatment of his gf and there’s other things that have caused me to distance myself too. Misogyny lies at the heart of it and it makes me so sad.

Cis is a prefix FYI. Cisgender would be a word.

Have you taken it up with all the major dictionaries since both are to be found in there?

Hence the word ‘cis’ as I’ve written it. I hate it too. And pull people up who say it.

I think the issue intensified post Me Too. Certain men welcomed the conflict, because it meant the heat was finally off them.

I disliked the branding of Me Too as if it was a new phenomenon - it's just old-fashioned feminism/consciousness raising. However it's undeniable this world wide movement of women across generations mainstreamed discussion of male violence, put pressure on industries and seemed like it could be a tipping point for systemic change, despite concerns about trial by media etc.

This led to an inevitable backlash. Andrew Tate is one manifestation, the rise of the slur "Karen" and support for Depp is another; and I believe the unquestioning support of some men for trans rights at the cost of women's rights is part of the Me Too backlash.

I think trans demands have been consistent throughout, but male allies jumped enthusiastically en masse onto what was a niche cause.

I think it's partly chivalry - standing up for an apparent underdog - but it is highly convenient that it gets men temporarily off the hook. Masculinity is not the villain and they don't need to examine themselves as a category. Now right-minded men and women share a common enemy - the mean old femininazis Terfs, who are bullying the vulnerable trans dolls.

It also gives men a chance to flex their Witchfinder General tendencies. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been on the receiving end of the smirk, as some bro realises to his delight that he's detected Terf tendencies.

Andrew Tate supports JK Rowling’s views ?

Jonny Depp and Amber Herd are as bad as each other, a very toxic relationship which has nothing to do with trans people

”Karen” is used too much but does 90% of the time indicate a specific type of behaviour which is entitled and not welcome, but as a 60s child who grew up with a sister called Jane who had to put up with plain Jane rhymes i can’t get too worked up over it.

can we actually stick to the trans issue rather than trying to shoe horn all male behaviour into “trans” agenda

Here's a useful reminder of the rules of misogyny -

  1. Women are responsible for what men do.
  1. Women saying no to men is a hate crime.
  1. Women speaking for themselves are exclusionary and selfish.
  1. Women’s opinions are violence against men, thus male violence against women is justified.
  1. Women and Feminism must be useful to men or they are worthless.
  1. Women who go around being female AT men by menstruating and breastfeeding babies deserve punishment.
  1. Women should always be grateful to men for everything.
  1. Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are.
  1. Men always know the “real reasons” for everything women do and say.
  1. The worst thing about male violence is that it makes men look bad.

  2. Whatever women suffer from, it is worse when it happens to men.

  3. Women’s ability to recognize male behavior patterns is misandry.

  4. Angry women are crazy. Angry men have trouble expressing themselves.

  5. Women have all the rights they need: The right to remain silent.

  6. Men are the default human. Women are strange subhuman others.

  7. Everyone owns and controls women’s bodies except the women themselves.

(Ignore the formatting issue please - I can't get the bloody thing to number properly on here!)

They despise women who they consider too old to be fuckable and/or have enough life experience to not be wide eyed with naivety.

It's discussed in detail in Victoria Smith's book 'Hags: The Demonisation of Middle Aged Women'

The whole movement of gender ideology has given men who hate women the perfect chance to call us hags, bitches, old etc etc under the veil of 'inclusion'. It must have been like a wet dream for them.

Exactly this. They only like fuckable, compliant women.

SameyMcNameChange · 26/04/2025 23:26

I think they like to signal that they are being kind and inclusive and this way doesn’t cost them anything.

Cattenberg · 26/04/2025 23:23

I saw one young man explain earnestly on social media that it made no difference to his life which spaces trans women used, so there was no reason to object other than to be unkind. It's easy to be magnanimous about giving something away if it was never yours to begin with.

There are gay men who claim to act out of a sense of LGBT solidarity, but it's come as a shock to me to see how misogynistic some of them are. I'm talking about the kind who are usually polite to the men who disagree with them, but hostile or patronising to the women who express exactly the same misgivings. Strangely, I once came across a lesbian who seemed to fall into this category. She would sometimes scold GC men on social media, but about 90% of her targets were GC women. She once said that when she was young, she experienced homophobic abuse from straight women. I'm convinced that this explains her behaviour.

Then there are the men who can't claim to be acting out of kindness or LGBT solidarity and who are simply out-and-out misogynists. Mansplaining to women and scolding them for for womaning wrong makes them feel good.

cariadlet · 26/04/2025 23:21

Misogynists but Left Wing and want to think they're progressive.

In reply to an earlier post, I think the op was right to use "cis men". I hate the term but these wankers do always refer to themselves as cis men rather than just calling themselves men.

b4t · 26/04/2025 23:13

It's virtue signalling. They like to create a narrative that they're good people being nasty for a good cause. That they're being progressive, inclusive, accepting, protecting. That we're being regressive, discriminatory, dangerous and in need of silencing. It's an attempt to look good when the consequences don't even affect them.

Lemonz · 26/04/2025 23:05

I dislike the 'haha feminists asked for this, hope they're enjoying their equality' right-wing type of dickhead, but at least they are honest about hating women and gender non-conforming men.

With the left-wing scolds you can smell their misogyny a mile off but they lie about it, probably to themselves as much as anyone else.

They're all watching the same porn. It's just two cheeks of the same arse at the end of the day.

happinessischocolate · 26/04/2025 23:05

I genuinely haven’t seen this. IME the more right wing and sexist the man the more they deride trans people.

Lemonz · 26/04/2025 22:59

They like to scold women - though actually they like to scold men too. Scolding is fun! Women especially, though, because you know their opinions are irrelevant and they don't really have full inner lives.

DancingOctopus · 26/04/2025 22:56

Yes, they have crept out of the woodwork. It just shows that misogyny isn't very far from the surface, doesn't it.
I have been reading lots of comments on social media, really hateful.
Even read one man say he would come into the women's toilets and we wouldn't be able to stop him because we wouldn't know he was not a transman.
I am really shocked at the hatred out there. I expected the TRAs to spit out their dummies and wave their willies around, but this is something that I did not expect.

RaisedVegBeds · 26/04/2025 22:49

For some it is an outlet for their misogyny but in an acceptable way.

For others it is that transwomen make them feel uncomfortable and would rather a way to ‘other' these men - they actually are transphobic whereas women just want to exclude men.

Some may have supported a child / sibling or other person to transition and I don’t think are able to admit that maybe they have limited that persons life chances - either in finding a partner or damaged health.

A large group I think actually love the 'queering' of society - breaking down barriers that mean that their own paraphylia, whatever it may be, can be paraded in public.

And for some it’s just a grift - their promotion of trans rights has been advantageous to their careers and life.

allstarsuperstar · 26/04/2025 22:38

Because they're porn addicts.

Whether they bash it to male sissies or the standard raped women, it's all just one big throbbing hatred for womenkind. In private, porn gives them the license of a dopamine reward system to seethe. Troonery gives them the legitimacy to detest women in public.

FKAT · 26/04/2025 22:26

They wank to sissy porn and think that makes them 'inclusive'.

HauntedBungalow · 26/04/2025 22:18

Bros before hos. Even bros in dresses.

scandalito · 26/04/2025 22:18

And actually I don’t think they do like younger women, they like compliant women (who tend to
be younger).

scandalito · 26/04/2025 22:17

It’s an outlet for their misogyny

teawamutu · 26/04/2025 22:14

I always think this covers it quite well.

Will look up the book @Waitwhat23 Looks interesting being of that age group.

I’ve always wondered how many would actually enter into a relationship with a trans woman in good faith rather than just the novelty. Kind of put their money where their mouth is.
