“JK Rowling is a wonderful author who’s created brilliant stories, and I wish her no ill will, but I hope that we can all as a society, just let people be. Just get out of people’s way.” So reckons kind and gracious David Tennant. Anyone else reading between the lines here and coming up with something like ‘women just need to stick to writing lovely stories for men to build their careers on, whilst also remembering about the cooking, cleaning and washing instead of drinking cocktails and smoking cigars, and they should just let men do whatever they want, and get out of their way and if they do this then they are most welcome to continue to exist as ideas in men’s heads and in common parlance as non-men, uterus havers, menstruating people and ideally, gestating people’ ?

It was also a rehashed skit he did for Doctor Who Confidential with the aforementioned John Barrowman If I remember correctly

If Barrowman is involved you're never too far from a bellend

I image some of those kids will be detransitioning or desisting by now, though as has been said, it is very hard for a child or teen to do that if everyone has been cheering them on and they have a support network built up around transness that they stand to lose.

But a thoughtful parent might still be able to change their position and try to allow their child some wiggle room and options. Or maybe SK is just saying “none of your business” in a polite way so as not to put the child in the public eye right in the middle of this shitstorm.

I also wonder about situations where one parent is more firmly on the affirmation bandwagon than the other, that must be very difficult and the public probably won’t be aware of the full picture.

I actually did wonder if there was a detransition happening. He seemed to me to be very averse to digging in on the position and used careful language. It sounded very different to the strident calls of DT and others.

I am glad he loves his child, we all love our children and that’s why we want to protect them , sometimes from themselves and not go along with any harmful behavior or delusions they may have.

I do wonder just how many Labour politicians especially have “ skin” in this.

I wonder if he tried to get mental health support for his child?
That would be a good first step, but I suppose may have gone wrong and pushed them further along the 'you must validate' approach.

Did anyone catch Stephen Kinnock on Times Radio this morning? He was asked about his transitioned child, and seemed to be trying to lower the temperature. He said something like he loved his child very much and was sure there was a way forward after the ruling.

I don’t/am not. Wear my heart on my sleeve. Maybe unusual,

Absolutely Ripley - I don't recall gay people in the 80s insisting on taking anyone else's rights or spaces. I don't recall them being channelled onto a pathway of drugs and surgery for being gay. I don't remember any protests for gay rights that called for feminists to be murdered and raped. I don't remember gay rights activists lying about the law and making up pseudoscience about how sex works in order to claim to be something they could not be.

Because it isn't anything like the same thing. People like DT need to rewind their thought processes right back to the point where they mindlessly accepted that being trans is exactly like being gay, and have a wee rethink.

Hear hear from another poster who remembers the 80s clearly with all the male pop singers who wore make up without it ever meaning anything whatsoever.

He didn’t? Omg what a bellend!

It's probably a small mercy that there wasn't a hideous tableau of Scottish stereotypes to really lean into it.

Someone juggling shortbread. Someone taking shots of Buckie while hiccuping and swaying. Someone doing a chanter version of that awful Heather on the Hill bullshite. A mechanical Capercaillie squawking everywhere.

The horrible possibilities are endless.

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/04/2025 10:51

Of course there’s an element of that but The Assembly is not scripted. The whole point is that the subject’s replies are spontaneous. Pretty hard to act that.

This

I think tbf, he's only really thinking about "trans kids" specifically his own.
The rest of it he'll know about obviously, but that's not his focus. Happy to throw women under the bus without ever really looking at that part of the situation.
I also think he just really REALLY wants to be in with the cool kids.
Sad little wanker that he is.

I wish I had so few real life things to deal with that I could sit around and pick on the few poor souls in the world whose gender and sex don't line up well.

You know, get all stupidly, self-righteously outraged; trot out know-nothing, self-congratulatory opinions; play the victim for no good reason, act like I should have a say in how other people handle their gender dysphoria, and otherwise be a giant, vicious doofus and bore.

Edited

I wish I had so few real life things to deal with other than the first world privilege that is males cosplaying as girls and demanding women and girls lose our safe female only sex-based spaces and rights, but you keep pandering to men and making rape survivors like me less safe while you campaign to tear down my single sex spaces, @BigHeadBertha . How proud you must be, striking a blow for men and male supremacy. Never mind the trauma you cause rape survivors and DV victims.

I wish actors would stop feeling the need to lecture us about the state of society, and I wish the media would stop encouraging them to do it.

Their job is to pretend to be people they're not, and read lines written by other people. That's what they're good at. If they're successful actors, it's because they're charismatic and, usually, conventionally good looking.

They don't have any special expertise, and many of them just aren't very bright.

I can sort of understand cases like George Takei or Lynda Carter, who have been basically retired for decades and don't have anything to do except tweet about Trump all day, but isn't DT in demand? Doesn't he have a job to do?

That's without mentioning the venom and spite he brings to the table.

RipleyJones · 28/04/2025 17:10

Dave. If you read MN (we know you do / your wife does, even though you’d never admit it).. read this. Stop comparing Gay rights to ‘trans rights’. Ones a sexuality. Ones a cult, a movement, an ideology. Wake up you thick misogynistic homophobic slug (who is on the wrong side of history). Just let women be.

‘This nonsense is just the gay panic rebranded’

All the following are true:

  • trans rights activists ambulance chased the gay rights movement after their success;
  • many gay rights charities, seeing funding dry up after gay marriage was won, looked for a new cause and pivoted to the trans movement. Quelle surprise their funding increased exponentially and no one lost their job;
  • so many people parked their brains and simply believed (because be kind) the trans rights movement was indeed the new civil rights movement without thinking things through;
  • Stonewall had huge amounts of goodwill which they poured into trans rights and used to deceive and manipulate people, companies, NHS, governent departments etc so very successfully;
  • See also the notorious "Dentons document" which advised trans rights organsitions how to have gender identity/self id etc laws passed without proper scrutiny - this happened in NZ, in Ireland etc;
  • Around this time companies needed to offer DEI etc training and most didn't know what to do - so they outsourced to formerly "trusted" organisations like Stonewall, who somehow convinced everyone that sex didn't matter anymore. Stonewall even changed the definitions on their website saying gay people were "same gender attracted" (no longer same sex attracted). Stonewall & retrospectively destroyed their formerly good name & reputation;
  • trans rights are very homophobic - in fact trans "medical care" is 99% conversion therapy for gay people;
  • Trans rights are nothing to do with gay rights - no civil rights movement seeks to take rights away from other people and give a protected group of people additonal rights to everyone else. The trans rights movement is not a civil rights movement;
  • Trans rights movement is hugely divisive to all groups including lesbians and gay men;

Read this too, Dave.

DT claimed to have 'skin in the game' re trans rights but of course he has no skin in the game when it comes to Womens rights. They are a privileged family. His wife and daughters will not be on NHS wards with men, they will be in some private room in a private clinic. His daughters will not need a women only homeless shelter.

People should learn from the Shiloh Jolie Pitt clusterfuck
Afaik, AJ and BP literally never said she was trans or even gender-questioning, people just made assumptions from the fact that she wanted a short haircut, wore 'boys' clothes and wanted to be treated like her older brothers.
Yet for years people were getting screamed at online for 'misgendering' and 'dead-naming' her, with even actual news outlets referring to her as 'John' despite them never saying anything other than it was a nickname she sometimes used.

Then at 16 she rocked up at a premiere with long blonde hair, make up and a fancy dress, clearly not trans, just a girl who in any other decade would have just been 'identified' as someone who had a tomboy phase. TBH if you've spend your entire life since birth with people speculating the degree to which you are going to take after your incredibly good-looking parents, who isn't going to want to try and opt out of that as an awkward pre-teen?

How much harder would it have been for her if they had formally transed her into 'John' in front of the world's media and she'd then wanted to backtrack?

It's true. Whatever else you might think of "Brangelina" they definitely handled this the right way.

No, it’s Georgia, you know his wife who
tells him everything he need to know ‘about this stuff’, apparently.

Yes. He's very careful to make this clear on every possible occasion.
I wonder why. Is he preparing her to take the blame when all this inevitably goes tits up?

JazzyJelly · 28/04/2025 16:49

'Get out of people's way'...while they do what, exactly?

Put rapists in women's prisons?
Attempt to rape little girls in the female toilets at Morrisons?
Force rape victims to refer to their attacker as 'she' and what was done by 'her' penis?

What a sad little man. Just another misogynist. He probably brought up JKR because nobody gives a shit about him by himself.

GeorgianaM · 28/04/2025 16:32

He must have a very low IQ

David Tennant has called on JK Rowling to “let people be” and says the row over the rights of transgender people is as “medieval and absurd” as Margaret Thatcher’s divisive Section 28 of 1988. Speaking on ITV’s new interview show The Assembly, the actor is asked why he has become an outspoken ally for the trans community.

He explained: “When I was a teenager there was this thing that Mrs Thatcher’s government introduced called Section 28 which was about stopping the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality in schools - which was basically saying it was illegal to talk about being gay in schools, or to suggest that that might be a normal way of behaving.

“We look back on that now as a medieval, absurd thing to try and say and I think the way the trans community is being demonised is exactly the same.” - Tennant has worked with JK Rowling having appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Barty Crouch Jr. Asked how he felt after she publicly criticised his views, he explained: “Listen, J K Rowling is a wonderful author who’s created brilliant stories and I wish her no ill will but I hope that we can all, as a society, let people be. Just get out of people’s way.”

The pair sparred publicly last year after Rowling claimed the Doctor Who star, 53, was part of a “Gender Taliban” when he criticised legal plans to ban trans women from certain spaces, which have recently been passed.
While accepting the Celebrity Ally award at the British LGBT Awards, Tennant argued that “everyone has the right to be who they want to be”. He also branded Rowling and those who share her views on protected spaces for biological women as “a tiny bunch of little whinging f*ers who are on the wrong side of history”.

roseyposey · 28/04/2025 16:22

It was always about Tennant and his need to be part of the cool gang. Very selfishly he dragged / used his child in this thereby revealing himself to be not only very uncool but exploitative of his own child.

I would get banned from MN if I wrote what I think of parents who use their own children to bolster their self image and who “trans” their child so here’s a 🤬 instead.

colta · 28/04/2025 15:59

MinnieCauldwell · 28/04/2025 10:08

DT has outed his son as Non Binary when he was just 11 years old and still pre pubescent. He and his wife have to run with this now, the poor kid probably can't row back from this as he will make his Dad look daft and he himself will no longer be special.
I noticed that the boy does style himself in a very similiar way to his sister's.

Yeah I think parents who "trans" their children are very suspect, and this is what is happening here. Sure let them grow their hair or cut it or be as they wish but to put a label on it especially so publicly when so young for kudos is highly dubious. There is definitely a question mark over the mental health of parents who do this, personality disorders, Munchausen's and so on.
