Nursery Pride face painting

insomniaclife · 26/04/2025 12:55

Went to pick up three year old from nursery.
Staff and all kids in her class had rainbows painted on their faces.
“nice rainbows” I said. Staff said “we’re celebrating Pride”.

Is this normal? The timing seems odd - it’s not Pride week is it?

No such thing as a Trans child.

Rainbow face paint is completely harmless.

This is absolutely untrue. My DC reacted to face paints - it would cause days of nasty eczema. I would be absolutely furious if nursery caused harm to my child like that.

Pride is a political organisation and therefore has no place in nursery.

My daughter’s nursery had to get a signed authorisation from the parents before they could use face paints.

Nurseries and schools don't have to celebrate everyone's background.

They have to teach about difference and promote tolerance and respect.

Meaning you have to tolerate things and choices even if you disagree with them.
You do not have to celebrate them.

This is where liberalism becomes illiberable.

They were celebrating Pride. Maybe a positive tone is necessary to counter the kind of anti LGBTQ rhetoric seen on forums like this. God only knows what poison some of the parents on here are teaching their children and god help their kids if any of them turn out to be gay, lesbian or trans.

What does religion have to do with this? These analogies are weird.

Because the view homosexuality should be celebrated is a belief.

That not everyone shares.

Just as the resurrection is a belief not everyone is required to share.

Gay people exist and have rights is a fact.
That it is good is a belief.

It's actually amazing how people now cannot actually see that this is a belief anymore and think somehow the law is that it is good and everyone has to subscribe to that.

That's wild. And illiberal.

CleaningSilverCandlesticks · 27/04/2025 09:23

pride (although has become politicized)

Pride hasn’t become politicised, it has always been a political protest movement.

It doesn't include that FFS. Stop getting your news from Facebook and GB News.

The links between queer theory and support for paedophilia is not a right wing invention. I’d be interested what you think of these quotes from founding queer theory thinkers. (Presented by a leftist environmentalist):

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

You should read up on Foucault, on Rubin, on Califa and on Butler. All the founding ‘fathers’ of queer theory. And yes everyone in their own words explains how queer theory means that children should be sexually available to adults. May be also open your eyes to paedophilia slogans like ‘love is love’, and talk of ‘cross generational sex’, plus the generalised push to lower age of consent and the wish of queer organisations to talk about sex with very young children and expose them to sexualised materials - of which there are huge numbers of examples.

Some of the children will have gay parents.

Sadly, gay pride has been overtaken by the trans bandwagon.

Myalternate · 27/04/2025 09:19

My 3 year old already knows about families that comprise of same sex parents. I’m sure others of her age are as equally aware, just as they are about single parents.
She’s not curious enough at her age to question how two dads have children though.
But, if she was being taught to celebrate Pride that’s not fine by me.

What does ‘Pride’ signify to 2/3 yr olds? What does it mean to celebrate it?

Since the ‘T’ have also excluded any show of support to the LGB community unless they’re inclusive of the ‘TQ + then Pride can take a running jump…

Is that because you oppose Ukraine? Or do you recognise there are deeper principles involved?

Because your original post suggested that the reason people were questioning this must only be because they are “massively bigoted and hateful towards the entire LGBTQ community”.

I think you’re missing quite a lot of what people are actually saying, and substituting an imagined opponent to disagree with.

You can get interrogate the theoretical implications of symbols if you like, but at face value, this is a nursery painting rainbows on the faces of children who presumably have face painting consent.

Taking it to this extreme makes us all look hysterical homophobes, and it not helpful to the cause fought for by the women on this forum.

Fully agree with this. Children will have gay parents, aunts/uncles, grandparents, godparents and pride (although has become politicized) should be celebrated - it helped gay people become accepted in society and thrive.

I am a gender critical feminist and how quickly some people have forgotten that a lot of GC arguments centered around support for the LGB.

How about if all the children got a big Star of David painted on their face to celebrate passover?

Because some families are Jewish.

This. Nurseries will try to celebrate everyone’s background. It was Lesbian Visibility this week.

Now that you said this and I did some googling , the context is different. The theme for this year is “celebrating rainbow families” which fits and it’s totally fair enough.

However, this is not Pride , or celebrating Pride (and it’s kind of shit to just swap one thing for another as if they’re interchangeable). It wasn’t Pride week or month and Pride is a political organisation. Add in the context of last week’s ruling (a lot more posters will be aware of that than of Lesbian Visibility) , and it could look like a political, deliberate (and concerning)move on the part of the nursery.

I fully support Ukraine. Would it be right for me to paint a class of nursery children in Ukraine colours?

If not, why not?

I don't see that a war is any equivalence to learning about LGBTQ people in a fun way

I always find it really odd when posters don’t bother to read threads properly and then post passive aggressive replies to people that just prove they haven’t bothered to read properly!

I have already admitted that I misread it. Do I have to apologise as well? I'm sorry I got this wrong, and I will wear sackcloth and ashes for the next half hour for my sin of passive aggressive scepticism.

Yeah, people in this forum always claim they're not right wing only bothered by trans people but it's clear from this and other threads that this place is massively bigoted and hateful towards the entire LGBTQ community. So many dinosaurs in here with a Trumpian view of the modern world.

People different to you exist and children are gonna learn about that. Get over it.

This thread is wild!!
It comes across as really homophobic. It is totally right that children should be exposed to all different types of families from the start. Rainbow face paint is completely harmless.

Previous commenters sneeringly saying things like, "If there are gay parents, they wouldn't be parents without assistance" is actually harmful. Do you have the same distain for straight couples who have IVF?

I'm a gender critical feminist. As a group, we're facing harsh criticism on our beliefs more now than ever. Shit like this does not make us look good.

Go outside and have some fresh air.

If it's for lesbian visibility and there are lesbian parents at the nursery then I can get behind that, it's a nice thing.

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen you should have some guts and say what you actually want to say.
