Lush introduces gender transition support to staff

I hope they offer support to those who detransition too. Being so often told that gender is fluid, it shouldn’t be a one way street.

I stopped shopping there long before the 'spy police' crap, and then the binders thing. I used to enjoy a browse when I lived and worked in a city with a Lush - but then I lived on my own so only I had to put up with everything in my flat smelling overwhelmingly of a Lush store! In fact, when I think of that old flat, it's the smell of bath ballistics that comes to mind first...

Quite aside from their dodgy choices, it's terribly overpriced stuff they peddle. Which covers everything in glitter. And the staff are trained to hard-sell, which puts me off if I ever were tempted in.

I prefer to buy my skin and bodycare items from M&S own brands. Cheaper, effective, and has the Leaping Buuny logo (which Lush doesn't seem to have). I don't want a hefty helping of political gobshite served to me as well.

I have moved country in the meantime but the moisturiser I used to buy for £11 (which felt like an extravagance back then) is now being sold in French stores for 34€. Fuck that for a game of soldiers. La Roche Posay is significantly cheaper and comes free from gender politics.

Haven’t bought from them in years. The girl being “kissed” in inappropriate places by men really made me fucking furious. I noticed the display in our lush window yesterday, Imagine a world where the headlines are UK leads the way on trans rights and a woman in a T-shirt saying I love my trans child. Why not Imagine a world where women aren’t brutalised, raped, silenced and forced into unpaid labour, I would have been thrilled to see that campaign. Why aren’t they getting behind campaigns to free our sisters in other countries who really need help? No money in it.

Tbf I had thought it meant paying for transition, hence my post about it possibly being a bad idea financially and ending up with them regretting it. Just being supportive is unlikely to do that and of course it’s their business anyway.

I think there may be legal risks though associated with actively encouraging people to transition, especially if they say things to possibly vulnerable staff that are now clearly contrary to the law and/or untrue.

Honestly what they offer their own staff I can’t get worked up about.
I think they are problematical as a business and I don’t share their values for many reasons - many of which are reported in the blog I linked to.
it’s their wider campaigns, many of which I don’t support and their responses to GC women which made me stop buying from them.

That was a fairly innocuous post of mine deleted! Perhaps it’s not acceptable to point out that much of the Supreme Court case was crowdfunded by ordinary women.

I used to love Lush but haven't bought from them in years. I got tired of getting ambushed by eager salesy assistants every time I entered their shop.

Out of interest, are there any details as to what this support entails? Is it paid leave for surgery? Paying for treatment? Access to qualified counsellors? Or a high five when you announce that you’ve realised that you’ve been born in the wrong body?

I haven't bought anything from lush for years as I the last few times I went in (probably getting on for 7-8 years ago now) I was continuously hassled by the staff as soon as I stepped foot in the store. Leave me the fuck alone, I'm just browsing!

Lidl has introduced one. Winter queen or something like that and it’s a bargain.

I loved CTG and I spent a LOT of money on lush over the years. The police campaign made me angry and the secret breast binder campaign ended me. I don't buy Lush any more.

You might admire a company whose values include sending teenage girls binders without parent/medical supervision but I think that’s abhorrent and unsafe, and not a sign of acting with integrity.

Most of the comments on this thread are from people who don’t like the smell of Lush shops. Not sure how that’s relevant.
Others saying their products aren’t natural - very easy to debunk if you do even a wafer-thin element of research into their sourcing.
They’re a business led by their values. Those values may not align with yours, but I admire them hugely for their integrity.

Me too. You can smell a Lush shop way down the street. The smell is over-powering if you actually go into the shop, which I had to once to buy something that a friend abroad asked me to get for her. I couldn't wait to get out of the place.
