Do you think the majority are for or against the ruling?

Maybe people who agree with the SC ruling are still afraid to speak out in support, but all I’m seeing is people up in arms - from bio women and men to trans women and men.

Is there a possibility the law could be changed (as all SC did was clarify existing law)? I don’t think this will be the end of it.

Personally I believe if you want to know whether most people are pro or against, look at how Trump got elected.

Also, I have to say, why wouldn't you be pro? There's barely a woman on the planet who would choose to have mixed sex facilities to change in or go to the loo. If it was the preferred choice of most people, we'd already be having it.

Same for me - I’m in absolute agreement with the SC ruling (and given the insanity prevalent until now, very much relieved that common sense prevailed) but I don’t feel that I can post about it on SM as I work for a start-up full of young, pronoun-heavy “be kind” advocates who I well imagine will be outraged at the ruling, and I just don’t want or need the backlash that might well come my way if they were to see that I agree with the SC. I can’t quite believe that in the 21st century we’re (women) still afraid of speaking the truth and facts because….morons. The TRAs have a lot to answer for.

You can say transwomen are men and that you don’t believe in gender identity etc you just can’t harass individuals or say anything that strays into hate/incitement type speech. Which none of us would do anyway 🙄 the right not to believe in gender identity, and now that TWAM, is protected by law. Your workplace can’t do anything about it, and if they did, you would win in a lawsuit.

Starmer would NEVER have flipped if polling showed that the public agree that TWAW. Not for a moment. He'd have issued some twaddle thanking the SC alongside a weepy diatribe about the most vulnerable group evah now needing very special provision,
He didn't. He knows what people think.

As the bullying gets reined in (I see the police are now going after the VAWG poster carriers at that demo) more and more people will speak out and the extremists will lose their power to intimidate others.

Bluegreencat · 22/04/2025 22:31

I have had some Facebook posts against (I have some very ‘kind’ friends). None for- although I have several who I know support it. So a mix. I’m relieved on a number of levels.

WearyAuldWumman · 22/04/2025 22:24

Judging by my local FB - for.

Someone posted that they've heard that a repetition of the Aberdeen toilet post is planned for Fife.

The comments were largely pro the ruling.

RedToothBrush · 22/04/2025 22:24

Weirdly someone raised the subject with me at the weekend. It just came up in conversation - raised by him - about the supreme court. He had no idea about my views or situation.

His opinion was very firmly 'water is wet'.

He is left wing. Liberal. Open minded. You get the drift.

He was unaware of the history / why this has all happened. I am increasingly convinced that the public have been mislead and hoodwinked and the second they realise the truth/reality/scale of the madness, the majority go 'well thats bullshit'.

Notaflippinclue · 22/04/2025 22:22

Most people? Crikey did you poll 51% of the population?

I am supportive of the ruling but I wouldn’t make it public on social media. I don’t need the backlash, either professionally or personally. I consider my job might be at risk if I made my opinion known.

I’ve thought about it, particularly when I have seen some friends post about how trans “rights” are being taken away but it’s it worth it. I would say it to their face though.

Most people are not that bothered either way!

my DD is happy that it reinforces same sex sports rules particularly important for contact sports but thinks the obsession with toilets, changing rooms, hospital wards etc is over the top as she’s quite happy to share with men and does share with men at work.

there is quite a generational difference for starters with under 30’s really being so much more flexible

Wait... so your daughter is happy to use a changing room with men? She is happy to get undressed in front of a strange man and for that man to expose his penis to her? Is that what she is really saying?

spookehtooth · 22/04/2025 22:19

aylis · 22/04/2025 18:04

For.

However, I think some are only superficially in favour. There are more than a few who are just happy to see trans people annoyed rather than supporting women and the principle of protection against sex discrimination - they would just as quickly see the EA and all equality initiatives rolled back.

I think this is a hidden danger, that some men's ideas of biological reality are different to others. The most vocal male politicians on the subject maybe aren't womens best friends on other subjects 🤔

thedancingclown · 22/04/2025 22:15

Many are in support. The ones against it and complaining loudly - I cannot make up my mind whether they truly think they need these single sex spaces or they are just throwing their toys out of the pram as they have not got their way and the tide is turning about them.

Funny how they are quite happy to throw around threats of violence and death and insult anyone in their way but also claim they are at risk, vulnerable and cannot use male toilets.

Springtimefordaffs · 22/04/2025 22:14

I am in England, I did not experience first hand the nonsensical proposals that were put forward in Scotland on Self ID. It would have made it very difficult to fight against the bullying of some Trans sports people.

Supersimkin7 · 22/04/2025 22:07

Hugely in support, obviously. Most people aren’t angry gay misogynists.

the support’s so overwhelming there’s a danger that trans rights might be wobbly, which would be a shame for genuine FTM/ MTFers. It’s going out of fashion as a cause too, and that won’t help.

Depends which paper you read. The Guardian public comments were in full melt-down today. Very entertaining it was, too. I even opened a packet of biscuits.

Same. I've lost friends over my stance, and I don't have any assurance that I wouldn't lose my job if I was open about it at work. My employer is a Stonewall champion (still) and the third sector is very much about being kind.

UnhappyAndYouKnowIt · 22/04/2025 21:36

I feel like it partly depends on which social media you use. Twitter has lots of voices in favour. Reddit, Facebook and Bluesky are up in arms.

I suppose working environment plays a part as well. I came in this morning to an email from the CEO expressing support for our trans colleagues.

DrunkBogan · 22/04/2025 21:21

I would say the vast vast majority are for the ruling. All articles on Facebook or wherever else has most people in favour of biological women being allowed their single sex spaces. Yes I posted it on Facebook that I agreed and I give not a single fuck what anyone else thinks! If someone thinks a man can be a woman they can piss off out of my friends list anyway. Morons.

Notaflippinclue · 22/04/2025 20:59

Everyone I know is speaking out and celebrating who are you speaking to?

Giggorata · 22/04/2025 20:55

Agreed, I think that most people just think it's common sense at last, if they think about it at all. I think a minority are glad about the legal clarification because, despite all the lamenting and hyperbole, that is what it is.

LlynTegid · 22/04/2025 20:53

I expect there are a lot of people who cannot be bothered. People who don't engage in competitive sport, or use changing rooms, and a lot of people avoid public toilets if they can. Or have daughters or mothers who do.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/04/2025 20:51

I think the vast majority never had any doubt about what a woman is and are probably barely aware of the SC ruling, but would think 'Well, duh! Of course!' if they were asked.

Merrilydancing · 22/04/2025 20:48

I think it has been slowly gathering pace but Isla Bryson really put into sharp focus what it actually means in reality. If we just take the toilet issue which is tiny tiny part of it, no woman would want to share with him. Also no decent man would want their female relative to share a toilet with him.

It will be interesting to see where the teenagers are going with this as my one says that the trans at their school are all the freaks and weirdos so are avoided. if this is the case, we may see a significant drop in the numbers of young, vulnerable people transitioning.

Ramblingnamechanger · 22/04/2025 20:28

I am shocked that some friends will still not agree with the idea that this was an issue, though a couple of gay men have acknowledged that it needed to be clear…although think it will make a difference to their rights somehow. Only a few prepared to celebrate with us. But the way that certain media have only interviewed to poor sad men and not any of the rest of us shows up the absolute misogyny. Underneath it all there is relief I think.

Orangemintcream · 22/04/2025 19:52

I think most are pro in the sense that they agree - but probably don’t care all that much/ think it’s ridiculous that it had to go to court.
