Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Some strange contradictory arguments from the TRA side

Claim 1: That it's unfair for TW to go in men's toilets because they're less safe there.

It's probably true that they're less safe there, but how does the conclusion follow? What about a gender-nonconforming male who identifies as a man (not as a woman)? He would still have to go into the gents' even if admission to toilets was on the basis of gender identity. Should he also go to the ladies' to be safe? What about various other vulnerable groups? Young boys, elderly men who may be frail without being disabled, or ethnic minority males in an area where a white racist movement is strong - maybe they would all be safer in the ladies'? But it doesn't mean that's the answer!

Claim 2: That there is no use banning self-identified TW from the ladies' on the basis they might represent a risk, because genuinely dangerous males won't care whether they're allowed in or not.
This implies that the ladies' toilet is no safer than the gents', and therefore it completely contradicts the first point!

Claim 3: That having rules about who can and can't enter the toilets will lead to a surge in TM and others being wrongly accused of being in the wrong toilets.

But even under the EHRC's and Scottish government's understanding of the law, there were theoretical limitations on who could enter which toilets (in theory you would have needed a GRC). So there have always been rules about who can enter. Does anyone recall a huge problem of false accusations before 2010 or before 2004? If not, why should it start now?

I don't have a PhD, meerly a degree, but I have to say i find the statement that biology isn't real quite baffling. It's the reason my blood is pumping around my body and that i'm alive. I'm sure the millions of people reling on it to get medical care would also agree?

GoldBeautifulHeart · 23/04/2025 10:05

To me, if you've had the op and no longer have a nob then I don't care if you're in the toilets or changing rooms.

I know people won't like this but least having the op shows me that you are wanting to be a woman by taking it seriously.

Don't give me this crap about someone who has a penis can tell me they are a woman. When I was growing up, people who identified as women got the ops to reflect the outside to match their inside. I actually felt sorry for them.

What I don't want is people with their nobs out in like changing rooms and stuff. Tbf I wouldn't want to see a women's box out either but I definitely don't want a nob in a woman's space.

I will definitely accept you more if you have the op.

I still don't believe biological males should be allowed to compete in female sports though due to accumulation of male strength and build plus previous hormones. Anywhere else I don't care about.

How do you know whether someone has "had the op" or not when deciding whether to let them into the women's changing rooms?

Oh I totally stand corrected - it was some other enormous PhD waver who was also taunting us ignoramouses!

As y’all were.

Let's all take a moment to reflect upon the fact that both Judith Butler and Sally Hines have PhDs.

No offence to anyone here who has a real PhD.

Boiledbeetle · 23/04/2025 11:47

ArabellaScott · 23/04/2025 09:18

I'm getting VERY confused by all the PhDs being dropped all over the place.

I see all your phds and raise you a cycling proficiency certificate and badge!

(I'll admit I have no biology qualifications. But even I know it's Disorders of Sexual Development (DSD) not intersex, and I know that even those with DSDs are still either male or female. There is no third sex!)

Keeptoiletssafe · 23/04/2025 11:46

All people are safer going to single sex toilets that have door gaps. All people.

Mixed sex design is private.

Hopefully this judgement will lead to more toilets being designed for safety.

The privacy is what is more likely to stop people’s ‘existence’. The ones at greatest risk are the most vulnerable with invisible disabilities. And those who aren’t even aware they may be going to have a stroke, seizure or heart attack.

"Gender ideology is built on a pack of lies and circular arguments."
- Circumfrences

I'm always baffled that a truly concerning number of people still think that xx to equal a woman and xy to equal a man is an exclusive default, and then go on to to erroneously cling to it as though it were scientific fact.

I don't know your educational background, but at my school we learned about intersex and chromosomal variation not being tied exclusively to pubescent development in Biology when we were around 14. It was pretty fundamental science, to be honest.

So, when you - and others like you - make statements like this I have to ask... how basic is your science, exactly?

"Claim 2: That there is no use banning self-identified TW from the ladies' on the basis they might represent a risk, because genuinely dangerous males won't care whether they're allowed in or not."
- Transdimensional

It's true that dangerous males will do precisely that, but the logical fallacy that this means women who were born as physical - physical, not biological (see intersex and chromosomal variation) - males will automatically present a risk.

As you rightly assert, dangerous men are not going to be deterred by a door bearing a sign of a person in a dress, but let's forego the bathroom entirely. If men intend to be predatory they need not use a woman's bathroom; they simply get a job in law enforcement, or work as a youth volunteer at a local church, or be your boss.

Let's be quite clear. This HC ruling has absolutely nothing to do with protecting women; you allowed yourselves to be led by bigots into alienating and scapegoating a vulnerable minority group who have done nothing to you and whose suffering you have neither the inclination or education to understand.

Whereas I worry about your education.

sex refers to sexual reproduction and reproductive role whether you are a snail, a rose bush or a squirrel.

It’s defined according to whether an organism produces large or small gametes or both (has anyone on this thread said it’s defined by chromosomes?)

We define it because it has significant consequences.

Unlike snails, humans are gonochoric.

Human females are mammals and have evolved to carry a pregnancy for 9 months and breast feed.

The male role is limited to having sex.

Luckily women are humans and have all sorts of rights that enable them to tell men to F off.

As with every other organism and every organ, the reproductive system is subject to developmental disorders. It does not follow that a human with a DSD is a new sex or that women don’t need rights or that a man who has fathered children can be a woman because he has a ‘female brain’.

Claim: TW have been using women's toilets since forever and women have never noticed because TW pass so well and 100% look like women, no woman in the women's toilets has ever batted an eyelid at a TW being there.

After the ruling: TW are going to be hounded out of women's toilets if they try to enter

Questions: If TW pass so well that no one has ever noticed before, why wouldn't they continue to do so? What's changed? If TW were so convincing presenting as women before last Wednesday, why aren't they just as convincing now? Why are TW suddenly going to get hounded out if they pass as well as they think they always did? Why all the panic and hand wringing?

AKA Schrodinger's trans - simultaneously passes perfectly AND ALSO will get beaten up in the mens/hounded out of the womens.

Orangemintcream · 23/04/2025 11:32

I have recently had:

  1. Claim : Trans people are the most vulnerable people in the world - no one would pretend to be trans.

I point out about Karen White

  1. Response : Oh so you think all trans people are like that because of one pretender ?

It’s fascinating to watch. It’s like their brains can’t process that going from 1 to 2 removes part of their argument and that 2. Is ridiculous because no one has said this and they know it.

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 23/04/2025 11:32

This thread is a great repository for all the logical fails of gender ideology.

Another (when women want men out of their spaces) "What I do doesnt affect you, rights arent like pie!"

Now men have to stay out of women's spaces: "Its not fair, youre erasing us!"

Hmmm.... turns out that rights ARE like pie. And they wanted all of it.

TRSOH see disobedient MNers as hysterical foolish old hags who only know about nappies, handbags and laundry.

To be honest I'm a bit hazy on handbags! Laundry and nappies I'm at least HND level, but never did the exams

sourdoughismyreligion · 23/04/2025 11:29

''You're denying our existence''

While denying women exist as a distinct group, and working to erase our existence in speech and in law.

We don't know if someone male still has a penis and it would be appallingly invasive and dehumanising to ask. Therefore, anyone male must be presumed to still have his penis and treated accordingly. This is the only option that protects women's safety and trans people's medical privacy.

This is very true.
Nobody should be asked about their genitalia or lack thereof so we must assume that men have a penis and women do not
And as I type that last part I am both astonished and horrified that it needs to be said.

My educational background is shockingly poor. I got through my entire career at the local comp without ever lighting a Bunsen burner and although I don’t recall my GCSE grade off the top of my head, it definitely wasn’t high enough to qualify me to take an A level in the subject.

I do have some common sense though, and when people with lots and lots of scientific qualifications are saying scientific things, I’m going to believe them over people who were clearly skiving on the day everyone else learned that humans cannot change sex.

Claim 1: That it's unfair for TW to go in men's toilets because they're less safe there.

We've been told a million times by trans activists that who uses what toilet isn't important - that we all have gender-neutral toilets at home. So if it's of so little consequence, why can't they use the men's toilets?

that we all have gender-neutral toilets at home

Which are single-occupant and only available to residents and guests of the house, unlike public loos.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 23/04/2025 10:58

Forgettingblue · 23/04/2025 07:29

To address your first point. People making this argument seem to not know, or ignore, what sex means, what it refers to. It refers to the individuals role in sexual reproduction. There are only two sexes involved in sexual reproduction, male and female. So there are only two sexes. Sex is binary. There is only one primary sex characteristic. Gametes ( sperm and egg). That’s what determines sex. Everything else is a secondary sex characteristic. People who are intersex have disorders of the male or female sex ( sexed by their primary sex characteristic), which manifests in disorders of development of their secondary sex characteristics. Pointing to intersex to say sex is not binary makes no more sense than pointing to blind people to say humans are not a sighted species.

To your second point. ‘Women, men will hurt you anyway, stop trying to make it harder for them’ is an argument underpinned by appalling misogyny. Removing safeguarding clearly leads to more harm being caused. All of the women harmed by the loss of sex segregated spaces, would not have suffered those attacks if sex segregated spaces had been maintained. I can’t persuade you to care about assaulted women, but nor can you persuade me not to care.

Edited

@Sassysoonwins trans Reddit is truly a sight to behold. They simultaneously want entry into womens spaces but don't seem to realise the purpose of those spaces (other than as a backdrop for them to exist in).

They want us to be kind and also want no debate and then believe that kindness and lack of debate equates to public opinion being in their favour. I saw someone say that they believed public opinion 100:1 favoured TRAs because of how many TRAs protested the SC ruling and how few GC people were there in opposition?!

We don't need to counter-protest about the SC ruling. FWS won, end of story.

TW as a concept is contradictory, it hadn't really occurred to me until I saw a (sane) TW being interviewed after the Ruling
He said that of course he was a man because to be a TW one HAD to be a man, it was the whole definition of a TW.

Agree, terms like "transwoman" are inherently misleading/biased - it has the effect of making it sound like a subcategory of women is under discussion - it makes "TW are women" sound like a statement of the obvious or axiomatic. Of course, the nature of the word "trans" is that this isn't the case - it's more like modifiers such as "pretend", "fake", "toy" in that respect - is a toy car a car? Not really. Nevertheless it's been a big terminological victory (and therefore ideological victory) by their side.

Joking aside that is actually a good point about "passing"
My dog knows what sex someone is, even from a distance (prefers women)

I believe it’s quite common with rescue dogs who have been mistreated by a previous owner, that they’re wary of the sex who abused them.

My cousin had a really sweet good-natured dog who appeared to love all humans, but went absolutely bananas if he saw a tall man with red hair.

It's transphobic to not allow trans people to use facilities of their gender.

It's not transphobic to only have male and female facilities, all the other genders will have to put up with it.

Women are not at risk if men are allowed in as they can lock the door of their cubicle and report any assault to the police afterwards.

Transwomen are not safe in the gents by locking the cubicle door and calling the police afterwards is not acceptable as the vulnerable transwoman has already been harmed.
