Cardiff March for trans liberation, today

I question the motives when the first - massively long - post is all about how some protesters are using stupid messages and then there’s a p.s. acknowledging that the majority of trans people and their allies do not support this nonsense.
Mass protests always attract nutters. Nature of the beast. It doesn’t mean trans people don’t have genuine reasons to challenge the unnecessary aggression coming their way.

But presumably whether or not one can speak Welsh is a binary state and therefore inherently transphobic?

there's actually a comparatively high level of Welsh in Cardiff because so many jobs are based there that require (or at least prefer) Welsh - the senedd, the welsh govt, bbc wales, s4c, etc. There are some very welsh-y enclaves in Pontcanna, for example, many of whom work in welsh media. Approximately 1/6th of all schools in Cardiff are welsh language (at all levels).

In the last census Cardiff actually had the biggest increase in welsh speakers out of every local authority in the whole country.

Then there will of course be other people who aren't fluent but wouldn't be classed as 'non-welsh speakers' either.

Still a minority but not a 'vast' majority either.

Yes, was going to say same! I think it was in part drafted by Harry Josephine Giles, who was prominent at one of the Scottish protests on Sat. The vast majority of people in Cardiff (and Swansea, where I am) can't speak Welsh. It's not just people who come in from outside Wales.

While we're taught it in school, most of us are no better at it than we are at French, we've forgotten it all by the time we're 20. You only really get high levels of Welsh spoken outside of the majority cities.

They must absolutely hate the Italian language then, as it’s the same, words are masculine or feminine.

So if you acknowledge that the majority on the rally do not support these messages what is your point in posting them all in full?

I suspect they've missed off a wee comma, there and it should be 'bottoms, tops', referring to submissive and dominant participants in BDSM, respectively.

What do they want to be liberated from exactly?

They complained about Welsh being a grammatically gendered language.

It has two genders, masculine and feminine, like French - it has no neuter like German or Old English. So a chair is feminine and a table is masculine or feminine depending on the word used.

Apparently this is s crime against their rights.
