I find it hard to know where to stand on this. My gay sister is all for the T in The acronym but leaves off from watching/reading anything about it and I totally understand her viewpoint. She is yet to see a trans woman in a changing room in front of her little girls though. I think if she took the time to research she’d think differently.

Gone are the days of “transsexuals” who had genuine dysphoria and quietly lived their lives the best they could. The whole concept in now bastardised by fetishists, faddists and attention seekers.

I find it hard to feel any degree of sympathy for people who have made a huge effort to masquerade as the opposite sex, then enter the outside world where many sex divisions apply and not expect things to be difficult. It's not like providing disabled facilities and services, because people don't actively bring disability upon themselves (unless through some extreme lifestyle excess). Why should the world be reformed for trans people? Don't govts and councils have greater demands on their resources?

This thread, and others like it, have made me suddenly experience a sympathy for trans men and women that I didn't have before. I thought I didn't understand any of the arguments so just sat on the fence. Not anymore,

I'm not sure this type of black and white thinking really washes with people anymore. The old left i think was so taken over by the far left that anyone in the centre became far right by default. The vast majority of people are centre. It was a trick by the far left to call anyone who didn't agree with them a far right nazi.

I don't think he ever got credited for this, but in that hoc debate where many MP's were behaving in such a vile manner and the Brighton Labour MP (Russell Lloyd something) moved closer to either Miriam Cates or Rosie Duffield to intimidate them, PB moved next to her, not saying anything, to give moral support.
I found it such an honourable thing to do.

That's the 'list system '. It is opaque and dodgy to me? The only real PR is Single Transferable Vote with multi member constituencies. All the candidates you vote for all on the ballot paper. And you keep the constituency link. You'll always get the odd looper - just as with FPTP - but you can vote them out.

I'm guilty of talking about 3rd spaces but after a reminder on another thread, I'm trying to remember to rephrase that as 4th spaces.

I'll be bloody furious if the disabled facility is offered as an alternative to the single sex toilets for these ridiculous people. Should be male/female/thirdspace/accessible; if no thirdspace available, use the sodding bogs applicable to your biological sex.

Realised I should have added the gender neutral toilets he argued for were in addition to the accessible toilets (which was a “suggestion” they could be “one and the same” he also pushed back on).

I listened to their Stonewall podcast yesterday I had heard it when it was first published but hearing it now really puts some perspective into how we got where we are. Their interview with Benhamin Cohen (Pink News) especially illuminating.

Michale Knowles is a us right wing catholic political commentator. I don’t agree with everything he says but a few years ago he had a liquid thrown on him at a university speech for saying men are not women. He laughed it off but it was terrifying to see. He has been fearless on this issue but there was no outcry or any ripple at all when this happened to him such was the support for the ideology.
