I have only just caught up with the brilliant 10 part podcast Stephen Nolan has done on Stonewall etc This was back in 2021 & he completely gets it & skewers Stonewall & the way they overreached with their interpretation of the law & the way they have totally captured institutions like the BBC.

For example someone called Marc Lawrence has been plugging away on Quora for years. I don't know much about him other than he is Christian, but he expresses clear views and allows contradictory comments which he then rebuts. During lockdown when so much of the internet was captured and when few sites would allow alternative views, his was a welcome voice.

I would add an honourable shout out to Toby Young. A bit of a Marmite figures but when he finds his guns he sticks to them. Free speech underlies the ability to have societal debate on key issues, and the Free Speech Union has carried out important work, supporting GC women and allowing their voices to be heard.

Just to add : JK Rowling, whilst doing a brillliant job invoking the female rights agenda on the trans issue is of course a classic left-wing liberal; she supported Remain and has been a Labour voter most if not all her life. It was the Labour Party of course who were the most enthusiastic upholder of “trans” rights.

People always say “misogynistic“, but sometimes it just means “traditional”. I do not consider them to be the same things and I don’t like it when the two are conflated. Some right wing or centrist people have some more traditional views on men and women, and I see nothing wrong with that.

By the way, I see nothing wrong with being right wing either, especially as it has come to mean aligned with normal common sense view of life based on things such as reality and truth, not fantasy and denial. Even if such people (which is the majority really) are attacked as Nazis etc, ad hominem. In fact, I would go so far to say that more right wing people support the Supreme Court ruling, simply because they are in touch with reality, as well as being alarmed at where the increasingly degenerate motivations of Stonewall and similar people were now leading us, our children and society.

Regarding the topic of the thread -- I recall that Simon John Edge signed a Sunday Times open letter supporting JKR.

I notice a few posters eschewing some of the men opposing Trans “rights” as right wing.

In the case of Trump, Johnson and Peterson, they are not maligned as right-wing. They are being called out for their past misogynistic actions and comments (and rape as well, for Trump). It's possible for them to be aware of the material reality where one's birth sex might matter and still be misogynistic.

We use STV here in Ireland ( Republic ) . I'd never go back to FPTP or any Micky Mouse version of PR that has an opaque party list system. That's wide open to corruption. I had a chat once with a local TD / MP. He was less enthusiastic : ' You sometimes have to wait til the 3rd or 4th count to know if you've been elected!' There's no really safe seats...aw diddums. And STV is actually proportional. 20% of the votes = 20% of the seats or near as dammit.
