To be annoyed by tra hyperbole around supreme court judgment

But @Shortshriftandlethal when all this started, a lot of us suggested third spaces - I remember posting somewhere about it and how it could help male parents with young children, women having miscarriages, young boys out on their own, and trans people.

We were screamed at and told we were transphobic - only complete capitulation and validation would do.

It is the obvious, common sense, solution.

I do think there is now a need to exercise caution and restraint. The Supreme Court judgement was a very important milestone, and one that set a clear precedent...but too much gloating will only increase the backlash. Enjoy the win, but don't rub it in. There is still along way to go - certainly if the goal is a longer term roll back of trans madness.

What would be destructive to the cause would be further stoking of polarisation. Suggestions of 'third spaces' and for trans activists to direct their zeal in this direction would be a better strategy for long term success, and a smoother path.

Just remember. Judges in the UK are none political. They can only rule on what the intentions and purposes of politicians who made the law meant.

The supreme court ruled that the law didn't make sense and wouldn't work if sex referred to anything but biological sex. Unanimously.

This law dates back to April 8th 2010.

I think this is rather glorious every time activists start going on about the start of culture wars or a law decided by the far right.

This was, in fact, a law created by Brown's Labour government. A liberal left of centre government. A government no one would remotely describe as 'far right'.

It just proves they don't know shit and are squarking out of complete and utter ignorance.

Whenever I feel myself starting to get annoyed I remind myself that they’re even more annoyed - because they lost.

We've heard for years that they're afraid to be anywhere near us, despite them being the ones who threaten rape & death by a varied means, so it's hardly a surprise that they're going full-on hyperbolic. It's what they do.

So I think (but I am unsure) that one fear is around a trans woman using the ladies toilet being challenged. In this scenario the trans woman is very feminine but perhaps people know they are trans simply because they know the person and then challenge the person when they try and use the ladies toilet. Where is that feminine trans person supposed to go if they need toilet assuming there is no mixed sex toilet.

I don't think this scenario is likely but this is what I have seen expressed on TV.

Their grip on reality is tenuous at the best of times, so it comes as no surprise really.

Instead of raving at us, perhaps they should be angry at whoever sold them the lies and made them believe they’re at risk of a “trans genocide” or whatever. And maybe they should also look up some history to see what real fascism looks like (hint: this ain’t it).

Annoyed but not surprised. There is no reasoning with these people, they’re too far gone. We saw much the same after the publication of the Cass Report. Nothing but complete capitulation will ever be enough.
