To be annoyed by tra hyperbole around supreme court judgment

Just a bit tired of reasoned coherent argument that biological sex gives rights being met with trans people giving the impression a considered ruling clarifying existing law is somehow akin to a personal attack or the announcement of laws in 1930s Germany. So many trans people saying they are scared or fearful of 'dark days to come'.....why? It seems without counterargument tra are trying to give the vague impression of an oppressive society gradually obliterating the 'most fragile of oppressed groups'. The judgment actually reinforced general inability to discriminate for fs.

A judge has simply defined a women for the purposes of law and taken no rights away from any person but indeed reinforced existing rights for 50% of the population which was needed.

TRAs have never had coherent reasonable arguments.

SinnerBoy · 19/04/2025 06:59

Yes and what have they got to be afraid of, anyway? It's performative weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Have any sex realist women invited them to die in a grease fire? Rape them (not entirely sure how...) Choke them with their vibrator? Post pictures of nail studded baseball bats, huge knives, or axes?

No, of course not, but that's very common from the trans extremist side.

So again, why are they afraid? They're bragging that they're going to ignore the law and invade women's toilets anyway.

Again, how does that demonstrate fearfulnress? It doesn't, because they're lying to get pity.

@Anonym00se I've seen none of that response, just a "common sense has prevailed, phew".
My Instagram stories are flooded with vitriolic lefty women. I'm so annoyed none of them have even tried to understand the assault to women's rights over the last 10 years. So much misogyny has been internalised - did they even read anything about the Fife nurse? Did they not care?

The Fife nurse story doesn’t make all trans women “perverts” or rapists. People can be satisfied with the ruling without displaying open hatred towards trans people.

I’ve not looked too deeply into any of this (haven’t read the judgment) but I saw a thread from Maya Forstater on X earlier where she posted a snippet of the judgment which essentially says that trans men (aka bio women) can also be excluded from women’s spaces where there is reasonable objection to their presence due to gender reassignment giving them a masculine appearance. I appreciate the reasons for that but I don’t like it.

Trans men could reasonably find themselves in a position where they can’t use a male toilet (due to not being biologically male) and not use a women’s toilet (due to reasonable objection to their male appearance). It shouldn’t work both ways. If we’re defining sex via biological sex then bio women should be welcome in women’s spaces.

Anonym00se · 19/04/2025 06:25

You only have to look and see women who previously would say “I’ve got nothing against trans people, I just don’t want them in my bathroom”, since the ruling are now saying “This is great! Those filthy perverts can’t rape women in bathrooms anymore”. Seeing the levels of hatred that are being spewed now some GC women feel emboldened by the ruling leaves no doubt as to why trans people must be feeling afraid.

TheaBrandt1 · 19/04/2025 06:16

Some of the responses remind me a an annoying over dramatic 13 year old flinging themselves face down on their bed wailing “you want me DEAD”. This whole “do you want me to not exist” line. Anyone who’s parented teens will have no truck with it.

Fantastic!

I think I understand the general gist of where some of this feeling is coming from, so despite being delighted with the judgement, I have some empathy with transpeople -especially the very young, even though I am certain it is unfounded.

Much of this worry is expressed in the same online spaces where many vulnerable minority groups are feeling uncomfortable rumblings of exclusion in a changing political climate; there really is a sense of the old "First they came for the..." in many spaces, with strong anti-immigration sentiments being expressed increasingly freely, disdain for the disabled finding previously unseen traction, activism in more niche areas such as climate being more harshly punished and DEI initiatives being under scrutiny (I'm a mother of a disabled young person, who works with refugee communities so I feel this change in the landscape quite keenly).

If, as a transperson, one identifies strongly with being part of a vulnerable minority group and not just simply as the opposite sex, I can see that one might feel worried that the SC ruling represents a thin edge of an exclusionary wedge.

I also think these flames are cynically fanned by TRAs, exploiting fear and vulnerability, when re-evaluation and reassessment of new ways to ensure needs are met (third spaces etc) would be much more productive.

But I think it is disingenuous and lacking in imagination to say that we simply can't understand why some transidentified people are feeling uncomfortable. Many are really young -school kids- and part of the identity is about belonging to a persecuted minority.

It’s interesting that it is being conceptualised as gloating. Everyone I know that is happy with the outcome is relieved. GC people I know are not pleased about the consequences for trans people, they see them as unavoidable and hope that the fight to eradicate sex/ female as a class will soon be over.

Quite.

Honestly, the thing that gets me most is the outright lies still being told. Anything that does that - eg the fact it's so utterly ridiculous calling it a 'far right' thing should be ridiculed for what it is.

GarlicSmile · 19/04/2025 05:34

So I think (but I am unsure) that one fear is around a trans woman using the ladies toilet being challenged. In this scenario the trans woman is very feminine but perhaps people know they are trans simply because they know the person and then challenge the person when they try and use the ladies toilet. Where is that feminine trans person supposed to go if they need toilet assuming there is no mixed sex toilet.

I don't think this scenario is likely but this is what I have seen expressed on TV.

Blaire White has a video called something like "I went in the men's room". There are quite a few such videos by various well-passing transwomen, I just happen to like White's approach to the issues that vex the tranosphere.

Take a look, it should put your mind at rest.

@Shortshriftandlethal I agree third spaces is an obvious solution, but I don’t think many transwomen agree because they believe that they are women and going into separate, third spaces is “othering” and invalidating. Would be good though to see if the opinion has changed as this would be something I’d be happy to join in campaigning for!

I think it will take a while. Their mantrums will get louder and their bullying worse until it becomes clear that they won't work anymore. The Supreme Court has ruled: no trans women in women's single sex facilities/services under the EA. All the whinging in the world won't change that.

Per usual, women have to be the calm adults and wait until their narcissistic rage is exhausted. I doubt they'll be interested in constructive dialog until then. Fortunately, most of us have dealt with toddlers before

The male loo. Obviously. HTH

But this is the hyperbolic scenario the activists quote to stir up hatred for women & feninists and yet the truth is in most cases probably 95% or more it really is quite obvious that it is a trans identities male, while they like to claim transwomen pass and are all as “feminine” as Munroe Berg….. (who is HUGE in real life which gives it away) in reality most look the the AGP’s debbie hayton himdia wiiloboy & bruce jenner, they look very obviously male! This really is VERY unlikely to be a problem. I think it’s far more likely that aggressive misogynistic activists trans idenified men will still try to access public bathrooms deliberately to intimidate women & cause conflict, they have demonstrated time & again their violent feelings towards sex realist feminists campaigners, ironically proving they are the men they say they are.

Meh. They've never been told no before. Like all bullies used to trampling over other's rights and ignoring all the laws and social conventions of society, they're having tantrums because they've been told no.

Given this is the Supreme Court that's spoken, they're going to hear no a lot more as they're forced to behave in a civilised way for a democratic society.

UrsulasHerbBag · 18/04/2025 20:54

They are furious aren’t they? It’s been ages since we have had all these guests from X and reddit to call us bigots, white supremacists and tell us about intersex clown fish. They will calm down in a day or two and find another flag to fly.

It doesn't matter if they agree or not..what matters is the court of public opinion and common sense. And in that realm third spaces are the obvious, reasonable solution...which is why Baronness Falkner has been suggesting it today in the press.

Yes I know! I agree with you. I am wondering if the opinion on third spaces may have shifted after the judgment.

Floisme · 18/04/2025 20:43

They’re angry because they lost. I don’t think what we say makes the slightest difference,

It won't be over as quickly as some might hope. There will be a concerted push-back, and even with a clear ruling.....the cultural embedding will take some time and effort to uproot.

Just look at the U.S if you want a more extreme model of what sort of shit show could result.......with individual states all pushing back, for example, against Trump's ban on males in female sports. Just this week two males competed in the final of a women's fencing competition.

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 18/04/2025 20:37

All the 'we stand with our trans siblings' stuff is really irritating. Firstly, because the law hasn't changed. Trans people have exactly the same rights that they had on Tuesday. There has been somewhat of an over-reach of what those rights meant in practice, which now needs to be dialled back to be accordance with the intention of the law.

Now is the time for the trans community to take a leaf out of women's book and get campaigning, organising, crowdfunding and pulling together to effect the changes that they want.

And for men to openly welcome gender non-conforming/trans-identified men into their spaces.

Whenever I've mentioned third spaces that could be used by trans allies/people who don't mind sharing facilities with the opposite sex, I've been called a bigoted, fascist-adjacent Nazi. So I tend to think it's up to the blokes to work it out for themselves now.

Shortshriftandlethal · 18/04/2025 20:35

MsMartini · 18/04/2025 20:27

But @Shortshriftandlethal when all this started, a lot of us suggested third spaces - I remember posting somewhere about it and how it could help male parents with young children, women having miscarriages, young boys out on their own, and trans people.

We were screamed at and told we were transphobic - only complete capitulation and validation would do.

It is the obvious, common sense, solution.

Yes, I know......but I'm thinking longer term strategy. Simply rubbing their faces in it could well be counter-productive. Let's enjoy the win, but keep our eyes on the ultimate goal.
