Ocado Apologies to Mumsnet

Never used Ocado and glad I haven’t. But I notice a few pp’s have mentioned Lloyd’s upthread. I’m not up to date on their stance since the SC ruling - would anyone mind giving me a quick summary pls? I’m a long-standing customer of theirs and am very willing to take my lady money elsewhere if they think they can ignore the judgement.

Ocado has never had physical shops - originally they used to sell some Waitrose products but now they have partnered with Marks & Spencer & Morrison's.

There used to be a Waitrose in East Croydon (originally a Safeway) but closed a few years ago.

There's loads of dodgy mini-markets, vape shops etc now that it wouldn't surprise me if some of them sell 'fell off the back of the lorry' ocado branded stuff though.

Is there a thread of GC friendly suppliers? I feel I may need this soon. Will be shopping around for my household big spends I think

I got temporarily giddy that I could go back to them, was a loyal customer of ten years, spending over £10k pa and on their monthly freebies testing list. 2018 was my FWR awakening (because of ocado and that fucking billboard). Morrisons get to keep me, then! Easy decision. Wankers (ocado, not Morrisons. Morrisons have never let me down with woke bollocks).
For anyone that wasn’t around then, loads of MN Ocado customers cancelled their accounts and they telephoned us all but refused to tweet an apology. I said I needed it to be on social media as the original incident had been, for me to not cancel. I didn’t realise the USA link but all falling into place now…

It's not just that though is it. They need to apologise to women for describing views that are - thank god- common sense and have been ruled lawful - as "hateful". It's very anti-freedom of expression as well and unnecessary.

The whole thing is bizarre really and a very sad reflection on the mad position society has got into.

I mean imagine going back in time 100 years and explaining all of this to Queen Victoria or Emmeline Pankhurst or your own deceased great grannies, grannies. I don't think they'd believe a word of it because it's so out there.

There are two instances.

One was billboardgate, the other was last year.
The first was against adult human females being a hateful slogan, the second was to punish mumsnet for having vocal adult human females on it.

It's not a good look however you spin it.

Ocado must really think women are stupid. It's statement is obvious nonsense.

A partnership! That is a mainstream planned decision that usually has a long lead in time and not a choice of a temporary contractor.

Not only are they offensive but they also have failed to apologise properly, for the right things and in a sincere way.

Pains me to say it because I do like Ocado but I won't be shopping with them any more. I'm disgusted with the whole thing. Barclays just as bad but I dont have an account with them anyway.

Looks like Lidl is the only one.. not only do they Not think twaw (really, though they pretend they do these days. I think they’ll be the first to update), they got their knuckles rapped in 2013 on this issue..

Unfortunately difficult to find a supermarket not tainted by this.

I'm a regular Ocado custimer who somehow missed billboardgate and am now torn - cancel on the basis of past wrongs, or continue with them in recognition of their apology (notwithstanding the fact they seem confused about what they are apologising for, but it's a start)?

Are Waitrose really any better? Our local one seem to be perpetually festooned in LGBTQIA+ bunting.

What was the actual post by Ocado? I’ve used them for the last year I’ll stop now and write to them so they know why

I stopped using them after the billboard and also after reading about the owners morals

have used waitrose since when I get an online order and it didn’t end up costing me much more at all

I'm curious about the Ocado branded products in Croydon as I thought they only had their own products in recent years

I wonder if Ocado have heard of the Streisand Effect.

I have only used them for free delivery offers, perhaps there might be more offers in the offing, the delivery passes are overpriced

I'm confused - Justine's post says that Ocado were looking to collab but it was the 2024 manifesto that led to their nonsensical tantrum, and yet some posts say it's been an issue for 7 years? Just want to understand better what time period they need to apologise - properly - for?
