Women's rights general conversations - Thread 10

Continuation of Thread 9.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

A sensible policy here which, albeit almost accidentally, will disproportionately help women. Edit: Actually that’s probably not fair, although the policy is across the board, it seems that helping to prevent a lot of women going to jail is pretty central to the thinking behind it.

A friend's husband died very recently and she registered his death this week. She told me that one of the questions she was asked during the process was 'Were you pregnant at the time of your husband's death?'. She said she just looked at the woman and said 'I'm 84...' but there was no response.

This world gets weirder all the time.

They have put a lot into the women's game too, and just opened a new community stadium for them and the women's football team, weekend training camps for kids of all ages, etc. It's all good stuff.

I'd just like to put this here. I an so proud of my club; at a time when 'inclusion' seems to mean draping the place in rainbow flags, here's a couple of great examples of inclusion done properly, making it a real community asset.
