And they're triggered! Lol 😆 🤣 😂

OP posts:
YourAmplePlumPoster · 19/03/2025 19:42

I've read through the whole of that academic study linked upthread and the "startling" conclusion they come to is that "a dominant sentiment among the participants is that the influx of Western practices and cultures might be a catalyst for sexual violence. Provocative body language and attire, often associated with Western culture, were identified as potential triggers. As immigrants navigate in their new country, they might be disproportionately influenced by these cultural factors, potentially leading to a heightened inclination towards commiting sexual crimes,"
That's OK then. The poor ickle guys who've gone to a foreign country where women are free need to punish them.

Unless OP, or others on the thread are Swedish, they aren't 'ourselves'. I think we just think of Swedish people as more 'us' than others.

I do agree with @selffellatingouroborosofhate that prioritising women from oppressive regimes that hate women is the right thing to do.

I don’t think of Swedish people as more “us” than other people. I said it was human nature to want to protect ourselves. That applies to all humans.

illinivich · 19/03/2025 15:01

But this is where the conversation is inconsistent.

If these men are migrating from misogynistic societies, why is it unthinkable that they are responsible for a disproportionate number of sexual abuse? If they arent, why should we prioritise women migrants over men? Would a campaign to educate Afghan women in europe be unthinkable or not?

We will never know what is going on until we collect and analyse data, but then any attempt to do so is seen as racist or usless becauses its always going to be incomplete, or western courts and juries are systemically prejudice against certain races or immigrants.

We are in danger of creating a protected class of men and having more women abuse because the accusations of rasism is more hurtful to us.

Also, we are always comparing ourselves to different european countries because they are so similar to us. Both in terms of policy, attitudes and desired outcomes.

Signalbox · 18/03/2025 18:17

This is such a bizarre argument. It’s human nature to want to keep ourselves and our families safe. Deliberately exposing yourself to risk so as not to appear racist is weird. We are not martyrs.

One of the comments is that Sweden has done nothing to "integrate the newcomers" which appears to be a blatant lie as they've spent a lot of money on language and citizenship classes.
Why is it incumbent on any country to integrate people who've voluntarily chosen to go to a country? Integrate yourself and if you don't like their customs, leave. My parents migrated to the UK for a better life and they took full advantage of it. I also migrated for work to two European countries and the Far East. I didn't expect them to change their customs to suit me, let alone give me free classes in their language. I did learn the languages and made friends with local people.

This is the first article that came up when I googled “Sweden rape ethnicity” (above the BBC article from 2018 in the OP - this is from this year. I’m not very good at analysing academic studies but perhaps someone else might be more on it. I’m not sure it’s saying what the OP says though.

journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/08862605241311611#:~:text=Considering%20origin%2C%2036.9%25%20(n,outside%20Sweden%20(Table%201).

It is really worth reading this article from a peer reviewed academic journal both for the results and the discussion section. The analysis is adjusted for various factors including different kinds of behaviour such as criminal behaviour or alocohol or drug addiction and length of time in Sweden.

And say that it's true. That for example, Romanian men or Indian are much more likely to be rapists. I don't really understand why we'd prefer Romanian or Indian women to be raped than Swedish women.

Focusing on immigration does rather imply that we'd rather those brown women suffered than us. Promoting women's rights everywhere should bring down rape everywhere. Importing and exporting rapists doesn't stop rape. It just means women with less resources suffer it.

And say that it's true. That for example, Romanian men or Indian are much more likely to be rapists.

Under that circumstance, we should admit the women as immigrants and reject the men.

Which, TBH, is how I think we should deal with immigration from Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Somalia, or anywhere else where women have a lesser status than men in law. When the men realise that their international mobility is harmed by how they treat their women, and said women are leaving and being accepted as refugees in the same places that reject the men, the men will be motivated to overturn their Taliban, Wahabist, and FGM-supporting governments.

I'd be interested to know if migrants have to give DNA and fingerprints when they arrive. That would potentially make them easier to convict.

https://www.biometricupdate.com/202503/sweden-issues-rfi-for-new-abis-moldova-issues-biometric-hardware-tender

The agency [Swedish Migration Board] currently stores fingerprint data in a searchable format in the Swedish Police Authority’s ABIS and the Eurodac (European Dactyloscopy) information system.

So yes, it's a lot easier to identify a rapist if the fuzz already have his prints because he's an immigrant.

Sweden issues RFI for new ABIS, Moldova issues biometric hardware tender | Biometric Update

Sweden is considering purchasing a new biometric system that will help the country collect fingerprints and facial images of asylum seekers.

I don't understand the poster who is so pro-mass immigration to such an extent that they accept rape and crime going up as a result.

It's blatantly obvious.

Sweden had a steady crime rate and sex crime rate for hundreds of years. They opened the floodgates to accept millions of immigrants with no background checks or rhyme or reason. The population has transformed in a very short time frame. (This is exactly what's happening in the UK).

Then coincidentally rape, sex assault, domestic violence and other crime has significantly increased in exactly the same timeframe.

Coincidence?????

Stop lying. Sweden hasn't opened it's doors to millions of migrants at all. Sweden takes in around 100,000 a year and around 50,000 people emmigrate.

TempestTost · 18/03/2025 21:21

I suspect that the larger context is that people are experiencing and seeing similar things in other places across Europe that have had this mass immigration over the past 10 years. And I can tell you it's been similar in Canada.

And that's not distinct from what many women who have traveled themselves have experienced in places like India or Egypt. There is a good reason people advise female tourists in India to avoid busses.

So to some extent it's true that people are inclined to see statistics like that as likely reflecting reality, because it fits in with what they are experiencing.

You probably don't live in the ghettos of Sweden.

Sweden never used to have ghettos but now it does.

It doesn't. That's a myth put out by the Daily Mail.

That seems like an odd conclusion to me? What are people in Sweden, or Europe, supposed to do about problems in India?

The city where my cousin lives has had problems recently with sectarian violence among recent immigrants from India. People can be concerned about importing that without thinking it's great that the people of India suffer that problem.

Oh my goodness. All of a sudden, Sweden is the most misogynist country on the planet and not because of the most recent imports. What a contrast to The Guardian or BBC over the years describing it as the ideal welfare state. How sad must Swedes feel to be described as backwards.

"The little I know about Sweden and the culture of misogyny, it's not a huge leap that for two identical cases, and only the accused differed, the nice respectable, Swedish native might well be favoured over the 'foreigner'"

is there any modern country today where that is not the case?

True, I did actually intend to include that and promptly forgot!

I'd be glad if I was deported to Sweden or Norway. Frequent visitor to both countries.

Well, be careful. As a foreigner, you're more likely to be convicted of rape!

I don't know much about their legal system, would it be a jury or a judge trial? Or does it vary? Inherent, subconscious bias can make all the difference to the outcome. What was that Channel 4 show with the two juries for the same case, with the different verdicts?

The little I know about Sweden and the culture of misogyny, it's not a huge leap that for two identical cases, and only the accused differed, the nice respectable, Swedish native might well be favoured over the 'foreigner'... This is where 'reasonable doubt' comes into play, particularly with rape cases. The Swedish man gets the benefit of the doubt, while the foreigner gets the harsher conclusion drawn 'he must have done it' without the benefit of the doubt.

Don’t we?

I think rational people would always consider whether a headline of “most people convicted of crime X share characteristic Y” was a sign that people Y were more likely to commit crime X, or just more likely to be convicted. And that’s doubly true for a crime with such an appallingly low conviction rate as rape.

I apologise for using such a trivial “crime” as a comparison but 75% of the people convicted for not paying their tv licence are women. Do we think women are more likely to not pay? Or are there other factors involved in the statistic of people actually convicted?

I have never heard anyone question the idea that most rapists are between 18 and 45. Ive never heard anyone claim that its ageist and we cannot possible say this because so much rape is not reported.

We use the information we have to keep ourselves safe, even when we know the data is incomplete.

You are being disingenuous by pretending that you 'rationally' dont use any rape data stats because the conviction rates are so low.

Years ago, I was involved with Chilean exiles who were taken in by Sweden. The largest number of anywhere. Most of them stayed on in their adopted country and were extremely grateful for the welcome and hospitality they received.

The truth is, Sweden is having massive problems with their 2015 plus intake with gun and gang violence, rapes and rocketing crime. It makes me wonder why a beautiful, peaceful country like Sweden has let people in who are so angry. What do they have to be angry about? Even more, what do lefties have to be angry about on their behalf? They live in nice flats with free education, health care and benefits in nice, peaceful, pleasant surroundings. I'd be glad if I was deported to Sweden or Norway. Frequent visitor to both countries.
