I think the main thing that changed was the clamp down on lorry trafficking.

On google it shows over various years deaths occurred, people in the back of refrigerator lorries which shocked the public and the gov got tough and those numbers dropped.

After that it took some time for boats to be used but over time they snowballed as traffickers set up systems, people and marketing.

Edited

I wonder how much of this trafficking is connected to prostitution and might be alleviated by the Nordic Model? Likewise how much is to exploit people as "substitute riders" on Deliveroo and Just Eat? And hand car washes, nail bars...

  1. I got confused between the camps existing and being demolished and the British immigration being in Calais. The British immigration still is in Calais, I thought the French had stopped that when we left because of the almighty queues for the ferries at Folkstone, but that's actually caused by all the checks we now have to have where people have to bin their sandwiches because it's got cheese in.
  2. "Are you arguing that the number of small boats going through the roof at the exact same time that we left the EU is purely a coincidence?" still applies. Something has changed.

You can see then that EU countries can’t just send people back to another EU country, and we’d be the same re France if we were still in?

Your post is onto something else but your earlier assertion re France wasn’t the case.

How do you propose that we don't let them in when they can buy inflatable boats in Calais and set sail?

"Stop the boats" is empty rhetoric.

At least when they turned up by lorry, they weren't drowning and weren't putting RNLI crews at risk. And no, we can't just tell the RNLI not to rescue them. a) That's not how maritime rescue works and b) the RNLI have no means of distinguishing whether a callout is for a boat full of migrants and a boat full of people on a fishing trip.

You seem to think joining the EU solves these issues but you must have noticed it hasn’t for those countries that haven’t left?

And we have had high asylum claims whilst in the EU they were high early 2000s just by lorry instead.

But mostly why do you think other EU countries are struggling with this if they can ‘just send people back’ to another EU country?

This thread proves that virtue signalling left feminists care nothing about women being exposed to sexual predators from foreign countries. Just like most of them turned a blind eye to the Pakistani rape gangs. Case proved. Over and Out 😅

This thread proves that right-wing racists care nothing about women being raped by white men and see white women only as objects to be weaponised against the "wrong" colour of people, ignoring the rape of Black and brown women.

Why does joining the EU stop the problem?

Other EU countries are struggling with the same issue. No one is saying sure send them all back here, as the French wouldn’t either.

Why do you think being in the EU solves this when it hasn’t for those still part of it?

Are you arguing that the number of small boats going through the roof at the exact same time that we left the EU is purely a coincidence?

What do you mean ended our agreement to process in France?

Do you mean the very low number under the Dublin Agreement? Where we took more than returned and it was a few hundred

I was thinking of the big camps, like the Calais Jungle, but they are not actually related to immigration processing.

Yet the numbers of small boats have shot up at the same time that we left the EU Hmm

There isn't an option, other than rejoin the EU and get the French to stop them from launching the boats again.

If we don't rejoin the EU, there is no option to keep them out. It is physically impossible to patrol our coastline. We couldn't even keep German spies out during WW2.

It proves nothing of the sort. You are, as always, acting as though the problem isn't men of all races.

I am more interested in your answer about keeping illegal migrants out of the UK which might entail YOU "flapping your gums." Unless you agree with it. Please feel free to add your contributions.

Perhaps if there was proper data it would be easier to see exactly where the problem lies, but at the moment the data is too crap for any conclusions to be drawn.

In the study linked above the data does not seem crap at all. There are plenty of results and there is a considered discussion of the results.

Edited

It’s crap because it only looks at those convicted, which sadly is only a small percentage of actual rapists.

What do you think should be done?

You say your parents migrated to the UK, do you think your dad shouldn’t have been allowed to, as in your opinion as a foreign national he is more likely to be a rapist?

It's a shame we left the EU, and in the process ended our agreement with France to process asylum seekers in Calais. The numbers of small boats has shot up since then because of that.

This country has thousands of miles of coastline with beaches everywhere. Without France's cooperation to stop the asylum seekers from buying and setting out in the boats, we simply cannot stop them from landing here. Our own history of the Dunkirk Evacuation, where hundreds civilian small vessels helped to evacuate hundreds of thousands of troops whilst being shelled from land, bombed by aircraft, and sailing through naval minefields, should tell you that we cannot blockade the Channel against small boats.

By the way, the virtue signalling lefties evicted refugees from their theatre in Paris. Oh my sides.
https://www.euronews.com/culture/2025/03/18/police-evict-more-than-400-young-migrants-from-iconic-paris-theatre-after-monthslong-occup

This has nothing to do with the birth place of rapists in Sweden, nor does it have anything to do with the birth place of rapists in the UK.

It might have something to do with property law in France.

Wow! Did you read that extract from the sociology report that was linked by another poster in PDF format that I quoted? Do you think letting in unvetted men be they adults or teenagers may pose a risk especially to women? Do you remember the Albanian who came in on the back of a lorry and murdered Sabina Nessa? Her murder was under the radar as there was the high profile rape and murder of Sarah Everard in the same year. It seems that judges and courts here are unwilling or unable to deport even convicted rapists or foreign criminals convicted of SA so what would be the point of vetting them in France? How exactly do you vet them?

  1. At least they were getting vetted in France.
  2. If we were still getting the French to process them, we could say "no adult men from countries X and Y".
You haven't suggested any kind of mechanism for keeping the small boats from getting here. You can froth "stop the boats!" until you are blue in the face, but without answering how, you are just flapping your gums.

I've read through the whole of that academic study linked upthread and the "startling" conclusion they come to is that "a dominant sentiment among the participants is that the influx of Western practices and cultures might be a catalyst for sexual violence. Provocative body language and attire, often associated with Western culture, were identified as potential triggers. As immigrants navigate in their new country, they might be disproportionately influenced by these cultural factors, potentially leading to a heightened inclination towards commiting sexual crimes,"
That's OK then. The poor ickle guys who've gone to a foreign country where women are free need to punish them.

So let the women in and not the men.

It's not the women that do the raping.
