People with a cervix

This has really annoyed me.

Official documentation from the NHS, aka the national medical professionals, should know that it's ONLY women who have a cervix.

What is this non sentence of all women and people with a cervix?

It only needs to refer to men or women (or male or female).

It's really that simple.

Exactly

eatfigs · 28/02/2025 19:59

The NHS shouldn't be pretending that "trans men" are men, at least not in documentation that is sent to everyone.

It’s a way of including trans men.

It’s a couple of extra words to make people feel more comfortable.

It’s a good thing.

oh, you're one of those are you.

Actually not all women have a cervix and some people with a cervix but otherwise ambiguous genitalia (intersex people) may not have been raised as girls/women or may have been raised as girls/women but because they have xy chromosomes or male characteristics may live as men as adults. It’s not really difficult to understand.

But surely the word cervical screening would mean that it’s for those who have a cervix. It’s implied in the name.

Flopsy145 · 28/02/2025 19:58

If you're born with a cervix then you are a woman, can dress up and mess with hormones all you like but still a woman. Science and medicine should focus on fact and not play into the bloody trans agenda.

Are you transgender? If not, then it's not your place to say.

She means it is offensive to actual women!

It's good to see push back about this. Only last year the NHS was eagerly eradicating women's language from all healthcare, including maternity care. It's only because women and many men finally spoke out about all this that the word woman is being used again.
This is an immensely powerful lobby who've upended the social contract (look at the nurses being compelled to undress in front of male colleagues), made the medical profession look foolish "tell me72 year old male, could you be pregnant?" and worst of all persuaded the NHS to conduct unethical experiments on vulnerable children who've been gaslit into thinking they're born in the wrong body but a sex change will cure them?

All of this shit needs calling out every. single. time. The consequences are too serious for society to ignore.

Whatifitallgoesright · 28/02/2025 19:54

Goinggonegone · 28/02/2025 18:54

I think its because some transmen would refuse smear tests because they don't see themselves as female.
In response to another poster, saying "people born female" wouldn't work, as some of us no longer have cervixes.

If someone cannot comprehend or refuses to accept the facts of their own anatomy then they have a mental illness.

It's a couple of extra words to indulge mentally unwell people

No other mental illness on the planet causes this level of self indulgence and the total ignoring of the plain truth.

Hahahahhaaaaa

Trans men ARE women. So they’re already included. And they already know that.

How do you know? Do you even know how these guidances, advertisement and polices are written? First, there is statistical data which, I presume, shows that people are routinely missing screening appointments for a variety of reasons. Then, there is a patient panel who has input on how the screening campaign is worded. With any luck, this panel includes a representative sample. There was more than likely an LGBTQ+ person/people in the room making these decisions about what terms would make this information more accessible, inclusive and improve access to screening programme. Enter you with no lived experience and no statistical data claiming that "they know" or rather you know better what "these people with a mental illness" know and need. Don't you think this is a little...hmm..dehumanising?

It's a letter relating to cervical screening therefore it does need to refer directly to patients in terms of their cervixes.

It only needs to refer to men or women (or male or female).

It's really that simple.

I know that transvestites have always existed. TransGENDER is a recent phenomenon. Even if it wasn't, Schizophrenia has existed in history and cultures, that doesn't mean we pander to it. We wouldn't agree with a man who thinks he is the second coming of Jesus because.....Schizophrenia. I am not now, nor ever, going to pander to someone with a mental illness/dysphoria who because..... thinks they are gendered soul born in the wrong body. Not now, not ever!

Aww bless you

WillIEverBeOk · 28/02/2025 19:49

AubernFable · 28/02/2025 19:31

Please research trans people in history, it isn’t a new thing and in some cultures was widely understood and accepted. I understand your position but it’s worth fully understanding even if your feelings stay the same.

Actually, just putting it out there that some women don’t have a cervix.

Mine was removed during my hysterectomy!

Then you don't need your cervix checked do you? Nobody is saying all women have a cervix, we're saying that only women have a cervix.

Quercus5 · 28/02/2025 19:48

In Edinburgh screening is for people with a cervix. No mention of women.

No. It's not. It disadvantages women for whom English may not be their first language, it erases women from medical literature that should be solely focused on women as the priority, and it is fundamentally ludicrous. Trans men know they are female. There is nothing offensive about acknowledging their biological reality, particularly when it comes to making sure they attend to the basic screening needs their biology demands.

Carouselfish · 28/02/2025 19:47

Whar about the pretend cats? Why didn't they say people and animals with a cervix.

WillIEverBeOk · 28/02/2025 19:46

Catza · 28/02/2025 19:28

Well again, perhaps your perspective is a bit skewed since you are not transgender. What you believe they know and feel and what makes them feel included is largely irrelevant. You can advocate to be called whatever you want to be called and so can they. So maybe saying "women and people with a cervix" satisfies both parties. Is that not acceptable to you?
I am still struggling to see how someone being called "a person" is dehumanizing

It's not the word 'person'. Its cervix. It's that they are reducing WOMEN (trans men) to sex organs.

No one changes sex. Trans men are women and we shouldn't be indulging this mental illness.

TidyDancer · 28/02/2025 19:45

The waters should never be muddied on this.

Someone I know got called for cervical screening because he has changed his NHS record to say he is female. He was highly amused by this but if there are men who are getting this kind of letter because they have taken on an alternative gender identity then there will be women in the same position who are missing out on screening because they have changed their records to say they are men.

The solution is not to have this daft wording, it's to have all NHS records reflect sex and not ideologies such as gender identity. People who believe they are trans know exactly what body parts they have so there is no need for this.

WillIEverBeOk · 28/02/2025 19:44

AubernFable · 28/02/2025 19:27

I think anyone holding this much disdain for millions of individuals needs psychiatric help, honestly shocking.

If you don’t agree with their beliefs, that’s fine- it’s the same as anything else but trans people still deserve the same treatment as everyone else, especially access to healthcare.

Calling women 'cervix havers' is the ultimate in disdain, so I feel you are gaslighting. Trans people are still either male or female. They don't need any special term, and they still have the same access to their sex-based treatment as everyone else.

Moier · 28/02/2025 19:43

What annoys me more is .. that the start age is 25.. it should start as soon as you become sexual active.
So many young women getting cervical cancer under 25 years of age.
