Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I think males should be banned from female sport and anyone should be allowed to enter the male / open category. The US President has just signed an executive order saying this.

Females need their own sports for reasons of fairness, competitiveness and safety. I am glad that orders like this make it easier to talk about these issues without being called a biggot.

Everyone deserves fair opportunities, women and girls are under represented in sport, this can only help that get a little better.

Transgender sports people also clearly deserve opportunities to participate in sport and so trans women and men should be allowed to enter male / open categories or have their own categories if needed.

Trump to sign executive order barring transgender female athletes from competing

President Donald Trump is signing an executive order designed to prevent people who were biologically assigned male at birth from participating in women’s or girls' sporting events.

This was not convincing the first time you posted it a while ago, and it is still not convincing.

Just about the only sport that female people have equal competitive advantage is some equestrian events. And that is due to the horse being a major factor in determining who will win.

"There are plenty of female athletes who are better than some men who play the same sport."

This ignores the reality of sporting events. If a female person wins at any sport where a male person has a physical advantage, that female athlete is even more exceptional than a male who might tie with her in the event.

The purpose of competitive sport is to reward exceptional athletes in a category where they are able to compete because while some person with that protected characteristic may have one advantage, another may have a different advantage within the range of potential within that characteristic that will give both athletes the potential to win.

For instance, we might see people using Michael Phelps as being this mythical 'advantaged athlete'. But Phelps has been beaten. Phelps had some incredible advantages, no female swimmer can get near Phelp's performance. BUT male swimmers could using different physical advantages.

So, just because 'some female athletes are better than male athletes' is not a reason to remove the protected category of female sports events.

It is also not safe for many sports. There is a much higher risk of serious life limiting, certainly career ending' injuries for female athletes forced to compete with male athletes. And this is true for non-contact sports as well as contact. Because the additional strain put on a female body to beat those male athletes is by far greater than the strain those male people are putting on their bodies.

Yes, exactly. There is a reason why a woman has never passed the selection criteria to join the SAS, Navy Seals etc. It's not discrimination to point out basic biological facts.

Well said @Helleofabore

It absolutely blows my mind that some people know so so little about sport.

I get that you might not know much, you might not know the offside rule for example, but to not know that men are stronger than women is baffling to me.

How?

The "open" category is the only one that should exist. Everyone should compete together. Sport is a meritocracy, people should be grouped on ability. There are plenty of female athletes who are better than some men who play the same sport.

Legally, you can't change your eye colour on a birth certificate or passport. It doesn't matter what your eyes present as. Therefore I find it baffling that you can change gender based on how you feel.

However I would never vote on a single issue. I would never consider aligning with trump on one issue to be a win. And I would never disenfranchise whole swaths of the population just to show I'm right over one issue.

I do not understand gender ideology. That does not mean I wish to supress it.
Anyone standing with trump is a supremacist in my book and I'm done with being kind. I will not be nice to people that think they have more rights than others.

If anyone thinks that anyone else should go back to their own country, get in their box, or keep their mouth shut... Then they can now fuck off in my book. I'm done being nice to supremacists. You can make your own country, stay in your own box and be your own supremacist, somewhere far away from other people.

I don't want you.

Trans women are women

No, they’re trans women, otherwise known as men.

Sadly, there was a International swimming event that tried that and not one person entered it.

However, there are marathon categories in the USA that now offer the same prize money for non-binary athletes as they do for male athletes and female athletes. Guess what has happened?

Firstly, male non-binary athletes win the prize money. Giving male people extra chances to get a place in the race because .... when someone is non-binary and male they still will on average beat a female athlete of the same talent level. Some female non-binary people have complained but their complaints have not been taken on board. Because to do so would be to admit that non-binary people remain the sex they are born.

Secondly, male people realised that they were getting an extra bite of the prize money and they declared they have a non-binary identity.

So the reality is, there have been several solutions trialled, but to what end? It just gives male athletes extra opportunities to achieve podium finishes and is sex discrimination.

It's because it's all nonsense. There are only 2 sexes and neither should be able to enter each other's sports, regardless of how they feel. Biology is the only way to ensure fairness.

I'm not a TRA, I don't believe humans can change sex. No biological men should be allowed in womens sports, ever. Why can't trans have their own categories, don't see anyone calling for that, why? Because they have failed in men's sports and the only way they can be competitive is to worm their way in to womens sports. None of this is about inclusiveness, it's about men lording it over women, in a new way. Don't see any trans men desperate to compete in men's sports either!

There's no more a need for a specific category for TW than there is for "women who have got massive breast implants that impede their movement" or "female doping athletes." Choose not to meet the criteria or weaken yourself to be non competitive = not entering.

Love this.

Can you imagine the commentary..

'And next up, is the 100m for all 5 foot females with size 34DD, 20 inch arms, 6 toes, no more that £5000 savings, from a city, divorced parents, etc etc'

There's no end of categories to make things absolutely fair, the only way they can possibly achieve a balance between fairness and not being completely stupid is 2 categories - male or female.

This is agonising. Why on earth are the left leaving reality and common sense to be 'wins' for Trump and the right? They seem determined to throw the votes of the vast majority away.

💯 couldn’t agree more and it is soooo frustrating

Well, no. Because primarily trans sportspeople aren't just dressing as the opposite sex but are in the process of transitioning, if not already fully completed. So it's not a level playing field from any perspective really

Oh FFS. What a load of tripe. You do know that only a tiny percentage of men bother to actually have transitioning surgery/medication, don't you? That's because they're very happy to keep their penis and testicles, thank you very much - so long as they can live out their fetish for dressing as a woman. And have other morons pander to their delusional nonsense.

We can't have categories for everything a person might choose to do to themselves, there aren't even categories for people with chronic conditions, they just suck up what life throws at them. There would be an outcry if anyone suggested SRS should be a Paralympic category, in line with a limb amputation, as the movement is very ablist, especially in the way they discuss mental illness (not us, how offensive) or how lucky breast cancer patients are to have surgery.

There's no more a need for a specific category for TW than there is for "women who have got massive breast implants that impede their movement" or "female doping athletes." Choose not to meet the criteria or weaken yourself to be non competitive = not entering.

Professional female athletes wanting to medically transition to trans men tend to wait until they have finished their career, or it'd be doping. Male athletes can do the same or choose which is more important to them.

Nobody is going to change their minds

I actually disagree with this @EmmaMaria

I think many people say twaw because they haven't actually thought about it as it doesn't impact them and the marketing has filtered through that it's the 'nice' thing to say. Once anyone sane thinks about it, and it's impact, they will change their mind.

I think people are changing their minds too. A few years ago stating facts would be deleted on here etc and things were much more controlled

They should be banned from all women's services. They should also be banned from claiming to be any sort of woman in for form of nobody taking them seriously or pandering to their whims and nefarious delusions.

That was meant to be "in the form".

I'm not up for office. I'm simply pointing out that not all left wing people support TRAs and that it was the Tories who were in power when gender ideology infiltrated every institution in the UK and the Equalities Minister and May were pushing their agenda.

Yes, May wanted to introduce self ID and it was on her watch that a potentially very dangerous consultation on the issue was launched. Thank fuck that one never went anywhere. Then another Tory kicked it into the long grass.

The idea that GC is right wing and genderism left is a North American one, and it's not a good idea to apply it to our society where it doesn't fit.

Define woman without:

  1. Using the word woman
2. Using sexist stereotypes 3. Excluding any woman
