Can we have a Julie Burchill appreciation thread?

For those who don't know, she's the author of "Sugar Rush" and has written many pro sex/ anti gender op-eds over the years.

She's just posted that she has an abscess on her spine. Flowers

Julie, I've been reading your work since I was about 12, I thought 'The Boy Looked at Johnny' was the funniest thing ever when I read it, and I especially loved 'Married Alive', and your autobiography. Thank you so much for the laughs and insights you have given me - I particularly remember a column for The Guardian where you compared Brighton to a clitoris.

I almost approached you once to say thanks (well, to gush really) back when I lived in Brighton, but I was scared you might savage me then write a column about it. I wish I'd taken the opportunity now.

Thanks once again, I loved every word.

She is the only reason I subscribed to the Spectator. Such a unique and electrifying writer. She makes me laugh and think. I hope she can write her way out of this discombobulating place she currently finds herself in.

I've long admired Julie's writing even though I don't always agree with her (I'm not sure she even agrees with herself all the time). I loved her book on Diana, old as it is. I'm really sorry about her son too, that was a tragedy. If you're reading Julie, I'm sending you good wishes and courage.

I don't think motherhood is the only thing women are good for. But alot of Mums on this thread are talking about her as some kind of amazing woman to the cause of Womankind. Just saying that she's not in my opinion.

I knew her son in his youth. And seeing as this is Mums Net. I had to say something, she is a good writer, maybe, but a terrible mother. And now I am a mum, I could never treat my DS that way. So I don't share the love for the woman.
