Premiere of Trans Widows Film on Friday 30th Aug

TinselAngel will be a poster who gets reported a lot. It's not rocket science to work out why some people want to shut her up.

I wonder how many people have moderator permissions, how quickly former mods have their access denied, whether they each have their own traceable activity statistics, and whether there is any review or analysis of reporting, deleting, etc, which could indicate to them if they have been subject to entryism or manipulation. It is ridiculous that Tinsel has been made to tread on eggshells.

That's really troubling.

I remember when I first started posting here (quite a few years ago) I used to watch LangCleg to get a handle on what was and wasn't allowed, because, at that point, her posts didn't attract many deletions. Then I watched it change - her posts remained broadly similar but the deletions went up and up.

That's really, really depressing to hear Tinsel. You'd think give your history on these boards and the support you give women to leave abusive relationships (watch the film mods!) MN might be a bit more judicious about suspension / banning, even if they feel they have to delete some posts.

I'm have no doubt there are some very, very determined monitors trying to get you banned so that you can no longer provide help to transwidows and amplify their voices on here. I know there are other places too, but precious few, and I do think MN is valuable as a place where transwidows can anonymously receive support.

I wonder if MN does do any analysis of whether specific posters are targeted for reporting (also who they're reported by). They should if they don't.

What a powerful film. Thank you @TinselAngel and all of the other trans widows for putting this together, and I am so sorry for what you have been through. I watched this as a feminist and as someone whose close friend is going though this with her cross dressing husband who is now fully fuelled up by the trans movement and is now a poor hard done by victim. She loves him so much and desperately wants to accept this side of him but it's fucked her up so much. She has dropped me now, the terf that I am. I hope she is ok, though I doubt it. There were so many parts of this film that made me wince as an abuse survivor. The present of the underwear for the children. My abuser did that to me, at 10 years old. I was so confused, I looked to his wife when I opened my present and she just smiled and said "oh <abuser> bought you that. What a fucked up world we live in.

Oof, that was an emotional watch. I have so much more appreciation of what trans widows go through now, I knew it was bad but this really brought it into focus. Thank you Tinsel, Vaishnavi and everyone who contributed.

I'd really like to know what next for this film as well. I actually sent a link to the Guardian's culture desk saying it's an important documentary and they should feature/review it. Probably won't do anything but I'd be interested in knowing what promotion the film is getting and if it is going to be featured at any film festivals.

I hope the lovely ex of the trans person in our world finds this documentary. Depressingly he has managed to tick so many stages outlined across different stories.

What's next for the film? Will it get shown at festivals? The internet will enable lots of people, across the world to access. Will the film makers make some money back through advertising?

@unwashedanddazed I have been told that although in countries where the ECHR holds power this cruelty and emotional abuse of children has been stopped. But in Sweden men who father children but say they are women can still get themselves listed as a baby's mother, but I have no idea if this is true or not. Perhaps someone with more knowledge than me can advise...

Thank you for that clarification. The part about changing a child's birth certificate was news to me. I'm so glad that it hasn't been allowed to happen.

Yes Arabella it's another thing for the mods to reflect on, why there are so many reports on some threads and not others. And why some posters are targeted for reporting more than others who say basically the same things.

They could do with some training on abuse dynamics / coercive control so they don't perpetuate abuse in their modding decisions.

Because it was reported, I suppose. We've all had threads pulled and posts deleted over the years. Women talking about men's abuse is difficult and.many people don't want to hear about it.

I forget which rule of misogyny it is:

'The worst things about male abuse is that it makes men look bad'.

And

'Women have all the rights they need - the right to stay silent'.

Wow - I didn't know this. Not surprising I suppose if the post was deleted. Why on earth did they delete it?

@Dumbledoreslemonsherbets Mumsnet mods also deleted an early Cots post about the Cots research evidence into NHS 'chestfeeding'/ safeguarding babies failure too - hench it was released to the national press instead.

Yes. Among all the other things that film has illuminated, the right side of history is positively neon lit, surrounded by fireworks you can see from space.

I hope that the mumsnet mods will watch this and Justine. Both so they can see the good MN has done by allowing Tinsel a space to reach out to other transwidows but perhaps also so they consider whether or not deleting Tinsel's often robust but fair posts at the behest of what are likely AGP men or TRAs (propping up the ideology harming transwidows and their children) is a good thing to do.

I've just finished watching it.

It's a tour de force.

The beautifully creative normality of the animation design, the different women's voices all contrasting with what they're talking about has real impact.

And bloody hell yes, the breast pumps, the proliferation of clearly fetishistic men in the grip of getting their rocks off, and the universal agreement that you, your kids, and everybody else seriously don't matter.

I was absolutely infuriated by that wanker writing that these men should get married, and that women should be persuaded to remain in the marriage. Like women are just a fucking piece of furniture.

It would be brilliant if every MP watched this. But even if they don't, it's out there now.

There's no putting that bloody genie back in the bottle.
