Apparently Karla's overt racism humanizes transpeople.

Who is actually convinced that they are morally better than everyone else 🤣 you'd really have to be quite deluded.

The pretzel logic of that statement is so incredible you have to wonder if it's serious or not!

If their point is that there’s nothing special about transpeople, I’d agree. Now can everyone stop treating them as some sacred caste.

I do hope this will be their acceptance speech if they win the Oscar! What a lovely person!

Because he did not have the full female range , apparently. Go figure

I can’t understand that. As a woman, it’s strange that he doesn’t possess the full female range. Unusual.

This is hilarious. I imagine those posts will have destroyed any chance of Gascon winning the Oscar, and won't have done much for the film's chances either.

Really fucking annoying if Gascon doesn't get the Best Actress Oscar for what he is (a racist) rather than what he isn't (an actress). But I guess this is the timeline where we take the wins regardless.

Wemaybebetterstrangers · 31/01/2025 09:10

Demi Moore must be very happy now..

HarpyOfACertainAge · 31/01/2025 09:07

It does put the oh so righteous Oscar judging panel in a right quandary now 🤭

Oh this is too delicious. Gascón now getting flak for past social media posts criticizing Muslims, BLM and run-amok diversity at the Oscar's.

"As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness.”

Blah blah blah blah. Blah.

So marginalised that he was in a terrible film that has been nominated for 13 Oscars 🤔

A male whose singing voice was enhanced by AI is up for an Oscar in the female category? Hmmm

Because he did not have the full female range , apparently. Go figure

I have wondered for a while what would happen if a trans person adopted a persona who is not only a different sex but a different culture.

This has happened in more than one case. People will criticise the cultural appropriation but not the "gender".

I love the quote from the director in that article (on criticism of filming in France rather than Mexico). "It may sound pretentious but did Shakespeare have to visit Verona to write about it?

Well it's consistent... France is Mexico if I say it is, a man is a woman if he says he is...

I have wondered for a while what would happen if a trans person adopted a persona who is not only a different sex but a different culture. Would people accept the former but not the latter, and how would they cope with the cognitive dissonance. This isn't quite that, but it's indicative.

Mochudubh · 30/01/2025 14:19

Sorry, that was meant to be a Gif.

Mexicans so pissed off with the terrible portrayal they're asking for their money back at cinema and have made a parody using French stereotypes
