Emma Corrin and 'homophobia'

Watched some of the fashion show. The clothes are okay, but what strikes me is how some frighteningly underweight several models are. The world just chews women up and spits them out, doesn't it.

A big part of the joy of dramatic dressing is that it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. A bit of gentle piss taking comes with the territory.

Haircuts, outfits and body modifications aren’t protected characteristics and full personality expression via clothing choice whenever, wherever isn’t a human right. Normie life is full of dress codes and uniform standards.

That doesn’t excuse verbal or physical abuse perpetrated against snazzy dressers (and believe me, I’ve had a lot of it over the years) but it’s not comparable to homophobia/racism/disability discrimination etc.

I’ve got tattoos that can’t be covered by clothes, I knew that doing so would narrow my career options and put some people off getting to know me, including people who could make my life difficult, eg landlords.

Making that choice puts it in a completely different category to someone who isn’t hired for a job or is refused a property let because they have a same sex partner.

For those who are not paid it should be a choice but IMO cannot be as long as our clothes are constrained by gendered and other social roles.

Some of the more er... vehement critique of that outfit follows a poster upthread writing
'I mean in her photos she presents in a way most people would associate with men and butch lesbians' [ it says 'her photos' in general, in fairness]
and if there's one thing you can say about the outfit in question, it's that it doesn't scream 'butch lesbian'😏

I hear you, but I think most of these later comments are referencing the ludicrous items in fashion shows. The designers present these as an art form - and just as viewer can ridicule a piece of art in a gallery, they can mock these creations. Shoes that models can barely walk in; fabrics that serve no practical real world purpose; sparkly faux jewel encrusted knickers that you would be able to walk no further than the length of a catwalk without chafing your inner thighs (let alone sit on an office chair or bar stool in).

It’s intentionally being displayed for response - and in several cases modelled by highly paid celebrities to garner PR - so it’s all fair game as far as I’m concerned.

Not loving taking the piss out of people's fashion choices :( I want a world where everyone feels free to wear what they want as long as it's decent, and whether it's fabulous, functional or just very very silly should be their choice and unrelated to the sex of their own body or anyone else's.

TBF kitten heeled sling backs are the devils work! The models that got the brogues must’ve been well chuffed.

Give me a nice, chunky 1940s style platform with an ankle or Mary Jane strap and I can run for a bus, no problem.

(I actually quite like the luxury art student look, or at least I would like a version with bigger pants/proper bottoms, I just bristle at the idea that a beserk sense of fashion makes a person a marginalised minority. I’ve dressed like a lunatic for over 30 years and I’m well aware that I could’ve chosen to blend in/conform more for an easier life. Getting public flack for one’s dramatic dress sense isn’t the same as homophobic abuse, being a public weirdo quite rightly isn’t a protected characteristic)

I agree, she looks as ‘butch’ as Marlene Dietrich did, who appropriated male fashion/style… and in doing so accentuated her femininity and sexuality.

Just in children’s play, they explore what they are not (ie boy’s playing at being mummy, princesses) to affirm what they are (ie daddies/males); adorning oneself in male apparel simply underscores that a woman is female. The fashion world knows this.

'Butch' my arse! Corrin looks highly styled and manicured like a model - in fact plenty of models have had extreme short haircut over the decades. She's clearly obsessed with her looks and with getting attention, hence leaving the house in underpants etc. Her whole NB thing, same as with Sam Smith, is attention-seeking narc bs.
