Posted too soon. I think the language has to be very, very simple with even people who might be considered to be reasonably intelligent in other circumstances. I think the teacher in this video leads the student through a thought process that is not challenging, so that the student reaches the conclusion without becoming defensive.

My youngest DC is 26. I have become aware of a noticeable lack of ability to think critically in that age group. DC is considered to be bright, all A stars etc, but there is a blind spot with many in this age group when it comes to the trans culture/inclusivity/be kind. It is perplexing and it is a subject that I have to be very careful about mentioning.

Oh I get that. It's just so laboured. I don't know if there are more students or just the one but any teens I know would be bored senseless my the drawn-out approach.

I mean, I don't disagree with what he's aiming to do!

It's one student who doesn't appear able to construct any kind of argument being talked at by a teacher.

(Not disagreeing of course but not convinced it's a great example of tackling how JK Rowling has been attacked.)

From my understanding this video was never meant to tackler her being attacked, but was more meant to tackle the mindset of "Well people say she has transphobic views" and taking that as given and as fact without looking into it themselves, so sheep thinking essentially - He's trying to encourage critical thinking rather than following the mainstream narrative more than anything

I think it is a useful, simple conversation to memorise. I have met a great many people who are just like that student. Some of them have degrees, which I find worrying.

Yeah he did good but not any more than hunners of women ( including JK herself) and the odd fella has said before. Maybe cos he's cool, young and a bit trendy. Still, doing the good work.
