That is just too awful for words, beyond the imagination of most of us.

No response from BBC or GMP for me so far. Came on here today curious to see if anyone else had received anything yet.

Same.

You’d think that their style policy was not something within their organisation’s control with that response.

That’s a ‘we don’t care’ but we’ll pretend it’s ’computer says no’.

IcakethereforeIam · 15/12/2023 12:49

Not heard a peep. They've not amended the article either.

Ramblingnamechanger · 15/12/2023 09:42

Has anyone had a reply to their complaint. I wrote in about how they reported on Brianna and have just had a reply saying that Brianna was transgender therefore they had to use preferred pronouns according to their style policy. My question is, as teenagers cannot even apply for a GRC how do they even know what it means. Good luck trying to get an answer or better, a change of policy. Thoroughly confusing.

I don’t like the use of innocent to describe any victim of sexual assault and abuse. Whatever their age.

It’s all creeping into that judging the victim to determine whether the assault was actually a crime, as if the victim’s character is more important than the perpetrator’s actions.

The victim here was a 4 year old. That is absolutely all we need to know.

Yes. Making a moral judgement of the victim is not appropriate.

Froodwithatowel · 11/12/2023 18:45

Except it's been a bridge too far.

"I feel like a woman."

"Ok, I'll tolerantly and kindly indulge that a bit if we wiggle around a lot with your definition of 'woman' and witter about social contexts a lot..."

"I'm female."

"No. You're not."

'Trans female' just means 'male woman'. It's like an up down. Or a right left. Or a cat dog. And that's the point that people lose all patience and just say right, fine, it's a man. End of.

Chersfrozenface · 11/12/2023 16:08

Oh, the TRAd have been claiming the word 'female' for a while now

E.g. India Willoughby waving his their passport and exclaiming that it says :female'. Which it does, thanks to the authorities' utter stupidity.

It was in response to what is a woman - adult human female. So that word Female needed colonisation to really erase women further and take as many of our descriptors as they can.

Chersfrozenface · 11/12/2023 16:08

Boomboom22 · 11/12/2023 15:03

So much this. Even under the crazy ipso guidance I don't think the word female has been commandeered before, just woman. GMP need talking to about facts. Ffs.

Thanks for sharing. I wonder if this thread triggered GB News to do this piece?

Anyone else slightly weirded out that the GMP referred to the 4yo victim as ‘very vulnerable and innocent’? Surely all 4yos are that? I may be overthinking it but it almost seems like they have a threshold now for which children are considered innocent.

I emailed GB news about it but don’t think it was just me as programming is usually decided in advance. I know Andrew Doyle pays a lot of attention to women’s issues and comments quite vocally on protecting women especially on Twitter/X. GB news was the first broadcaster I felt really drew attention to this madness which largely, I think is due to his determination as a producer.

InefficientProcess · 10/12/2023 14:48

The police referring to a ‘predatory female’ is so unbelievably problematic.

Even if you’re going to go with the whole calling biological men with trans identities ‘women’, they are very clearly not female.

It’s just ridiculous. Plain language matters. Accurately describing events and individuals matters.

So much this. Even under the crazy ipso guidance I don't think the word female has been commandeered before, just woman. GMP need talking to about facts. Ffs.

What Kinsey got up to, cloaked as supposed 'scientific research', never ceases to repulse me beyond words.

Why he wasn't - and still isn't to this day - widely acknowledged and denounced as the vile abuser of children that he so clearly was, I will never know.

There is still a supposedly respectable organisation called the Kinsey Institute; not much different from somebody proudly setting up and maintaining a 'Jimmy Savile Institute' in my opinion.

His views were so influential, filtered down, and still are having an effect - his idea that very young children are sexual for example ( rather than sensual)
has crept into school’s sex education policies and the WHO advice.

Aside from all of the very wise and pertinent comments on this thread about the actual appalling crime, it's a phenomenally arrogant, narcissistic perspective for a man to believe himself capable of being a 'beauty queen'. Whatever your opinions of beauty queens, it's very clear what sex one is supposed to be.

It's not sufficient to merely dress and present in a stereotypically feminine way, in the hope that people might think that you are an actual woman (or, more likely, humour you and #bekind in pretending that they do) - but no: YOU will be the best woman out there, much better than all the actual women are at being a woman; and maybe they could then all come to you for lessons in proper womanning, so you can teach them all the natural skills that they clearly lack, but which you are a self-appointed expert in Hmm

Don't agree at all. A lot of trans women make excellent "beauty queens". Nothing about being a beauty queen is "proper womanning " it's all about conforming to a feminine beauty stereotype, using as much surgery and make up as you like to get there. If the cap fits, let them wear it.

You know it’s times like this which makes me wish I was a psychiatrist or something because I really want to study why these men get off on abusing children like this.

Off the top of my head power, control, having something they know they're not supposed to, breaking societal norms, plus the sexual thrill of getting away with it, and some were abused themselves and think therefore it's OK because it didn't do them any harm!?!

Agree, @FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper
It shouldn’t need to be said. Stating this suggests that there are four-year-olds who aren’t “innocent and vulnerable”. ALL children are vulnerable.

I don’t like the use of “innocent” in reporting of CSA regardless of the child’s age because it smacks of a regressive moral judgment perhaps rooted in religious belief of a child’s previous behaviour (eg in cases where teenage girls have been groomed or subjected to SA, whether or not they have had any previous consensual sexual experiences should be completely irrelevant).

It’s very concerning to see a child described in this way. All we need to know is that this was a four-year-old.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 11/12/2023 03:24

This is how the language and ideology creep begins, and it will be built upon further once the cause of the 'MAPs' gains boldness.

It will no longer be a given that all children are (obviously) to be protected. The ones who are supposedly able and happy to consent to that which any sane person knows they clearly cannot will be viewed as completely different; and it will be those of us campaigning against such ideologies who are the nasty bigots and XXXXphobes (actual emotive, loaded word to be confirmed), trying to deny children their right to free expression and freedom of choice in a world where #loveislove, regardless of age.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 11/12/2023 03:16

My issue is that sex matters including sex based language, single sex spaces etc.

Yes, I completely agree with you on this. Anything that is decided/dictated by sex should be strictly adhered to: a male who identifies as a woman has no more right to use female toilets and changing rooms than does a male with no trans identity but who just likes the idea of being able to ogle women and girls in a state of undress or vulnerability.

I complained to Manchester Evening News too, which reports in the same misleading language as the BBC.

If you can be arsed, please do complain to them too. I'm sick of being silent about women's rights in case the delicate men turn vicious.I'm sick of being scared of speaking my mind.
