The more I watch this ad and read the reactions the more I conclude that it is, objectively, one of the worst ads ever made.

In the new ad, we see only a squad of garishly coloured yet oddly weary-looking, sexless, anorexic Teletubbies emerging from a lift like so many bipedal Quality Street.

It's possible they're going after the Tesla customers who want to be 'right on' but also want an over priced electric car, it's a niche market but it is a market!

Yes they’ve donated 10% of profits on Body Love products sold between June 1 and July 31st to Mermaids (I don’t know if it’s every year but it’s been a few years)

The teaser glimpse of the new car looks like the back of my air-fryer.

The new logos and fonts look like they belong on pots of face cream or the front door of a nail bar.

If this is all a big joke, a way to generate hype, and they are going to surprise everyone at the product launch in December, it could all backfire on them. I suppose the slogan 'copy nothing' could be the key. They've produced the kind of woke, vapid, hectoring kind of branding that has been prevalent for the last decade or so but, come December, they are going to swerve all that and go in a completely different direction?

I just can't believe a classic company would willing produce something so excruciatingly infantile. It's like they put Bubbles from Ab Fab in charge of branding.

It did, didn't it? I kept thinking it's unlikely that a multi-million dollar rebrand would launch with something a second-year marketing student could've made the day before their assignment was due in.

Someone on TwittX posted a great little marketing homily on "Remember you are Not The Customer". Mind you, I'd have thought most of Jaguar's brand team and their agencies actually are the “younger, more affluent and urban livers” who are “cash rich and time poor” they say they want to reach, and some of 'em must have £50k to splash on a car. Surprised they seem to identify with weird-looking models being angry in primary coloured papier mâché.

If they're taking the piss and they're going to pop up tomorrow with an 'we're only kidding, now look at this amazing car!'. It'd have to be a pretty special vehicle. People generally don't like being made fools of.

I do wonder though. That advertisement looked very cheap.

The advert has to be a spoof, because this is the stuff someone would make as satire of a modern rebrand.

I'm trying to think of a single success story of a company ditching its core market.

I have no personal experience of owning a luxury car. But I’m assured by someone I know who sells them that the last thing their customers want is to be modern and inclusive . Otherise they would be catching the bus.

They are buying exclusivity, cachet, showing off their money and good taste, they want to identify with a world famous brand with a long history.

They don’t want to be progressive , unique , modern , diverse and cultural transformative. They don’t give a stuff if everyone at jaguar feels safe and valued. They just want to drive a beautiful car and show it off to everyone else.

I've worked in marketing, design and branding for household brands for, ohhhh pushing 30 years, and my professional opinions is... fook that.

I've met the type of agencies that sell this crap - and worked with the type of internal clients who oooh and ahhh over any turd spray painted gold.

'No publicity of bad publicity' is NOT accurate!
