80 year old woman banned from pool for standing up for little girls

This poor woman dedicated her life to defending women and girls. She heard a male voice while in the shower at her local pool, looked out and saw a TW changing near 4 or 5 little girls while staring at them. She stepped in, asked if the TW had a penis, and got banned and the pool staff threatened to call police on her. They lied and said she said all kinds of profane things. This is so disgusting. I feel so bad for her.

I think it’s OK for a TW to use a women’s space if the establishment allows it and the TW behaved appropriately, along with all the other patrons. Go ahead and hurl abuse at me. Whatever.

So you think a male watching little girls getting undressed has behaved appropriately.

JenniferBarkley · 05/08/2022 08:58

"Do you have a penis" is a ridiculous question to ask a stranger. For one thing, what if you don't believe the answer given? Are you raising your children to believe an adult can ask them about their genitals, and that they should answer? Of course not.

Every adult should challenge and report predatory behaviour, where they are safe to do so. "Why are you staring at those children getting changed", "There is an adult in the changing room staring at children changing", anything in that vein would've been more effective and more helpful.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 05/08/2022 08:56

Go ahead and hurl abuse at me. Whatever.

No you're all right thank you…

doubt anyone wants to hurl abuse at you, although whats abuse does seem to vary on this forum

Nobody is abusing you!

You are skirting around the fact that I said male.
So in your view its ok for a TW who obviously is male to be in a female changingroom standing next to little girls that are undressing so therefore in your view it's OK for all males to do that?

PurpleWisteria · 05/08/2022 08:54

Penises in women only spaces are never acceptable.

BoredofthisCrap7 · 05/08/2022 08:53

""Assuming the woman's assertion was true and she didn't just hear a deep voice and put two and two together and get twenty.""

No, she put two and two together and got a big fat fucking FOUR.
In what world is it ever okay for a MAN to be in the female changing room watching young girls? And you're actually defending this?

This is just another version of the old "well, they shouldn't have been looking anyway" etc. Unbelievable.

What the hell are you defending here?
What mental gymnastics have you gone through to convince yourself that it is EVER okay for a man with a penis (or without one) to be observing children in the female changing room?
WHERE is the safeguarding?
And an (elderly) woman stands up for this and it's HER who is facing the backlash?

And the handmaidens run to the defence of the MAN?

This world is so far down the rabbit hole.

EsmaCannonball · 05/08/2022 08:52

It's not a women's space if there's a man in it. It's a unisex space and unisex spaces always become male-dominated spaces. Unisex spaces exclude women.

Rightsraptor · 05/08/2022 08:51

How would this play out@Didimum? Imagine - this lady would have to get dry and dressed to some level of decency before leaving the changing room. Leaving the girls with this man. Then she has to find someone to discuss this with, someone very reluctant probably. How much time has passed now, with the girls maybe still alone with him in what their parents had likely assumed was a female-only space? By this time he's dressed and gone. And we know how they'd respond anyway - we've seen it already.

Do you have no concerns for the privacy, safety and dignity of the Girls?

PaterPower · 05/08/2022 08:49

“She should have reported her concerns to the management of the pool.”

Another that CBA to read the article before commenting.

There was a female employee / manager in the changing room. She expressed her concerns to this employee AFTER (correctly) first challenging the opposite-sex person she could see was watching the small children getting changed.

She made the challenge first because, you know, fucking SAFEGUARDING. And in any case, look where having “reported her concerns” got her - a scolding, whilst still nude, from the female employee, later joined by other staff.

Are you actually a mother, Didimum? In a situation where you perceive either your own, or other children, may be at risk (of any sort) is your immediate reaction to leave them whilst you go and question the pool’s policies?!

Or would you do what this woman did (what any sane adult would do) and intervene to mitigate the threat asap? For your, and everyone else’s, children’s sake I hope it’s the latter.

Didimum · 05/08/2022 08:48

CrossStichQueen · 05/08/2022 08:32

That didn't answer my question Didimum

I think Jennifer Barkley might be focusing on the wrong thing here. I nearly choked on my shreddies. I've never seen someone defend a peadophile like that before.

Its like that old poster I used to have :

Psychopaths Are Human Too.

Yes they are . But certain precautions are advisable...

Kennykenkencat · 05/08/2022 08:47

We will not tolerate bias, hatred, or discrimination that leads to the oppression of individuals or communities. We will ensure sustained and meaningful progress toward equity and human dignity for all

Isn’t that the very opposite of what they are doing or is it just another lie.

The pool staff seem to be making things up to justify their behaviour.
Can you trust anything they say as the lies seem to be tripping off the tongue so easily
I wonder what else they lie about

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 05/08/2022 08:47

It's complete cognitive dissonance.

  • a male staff member dressed in a swimsuit was observed in the womens changing rooms engaging with a group of female children getting undressed.

In what world does everyone go 'oh how nice, she's entitled to be there because she's being her true self. I think it's good that those female children get to see that everyone is who and what they say they are and living their true lives'.

Fucks sake, safeguarding used to actually be a thing, do we just not care anymore?

oviraptor21 · 05/08/2022 08:46

Such a well articulated piece. Who could argue against it?

FrancescaContini · 05/08/2022 08:44

Helleofabore · 05/08/2022 08:34

No signage was up to tell anyone that males could be in the female changing room. So very few, if any, people knew that.

If this policy is to be enacted, it needed to be enacted clearly. Very clearly.

Totally agree that any kind of public changing room for women that allows males in needs to make this very clear.

I guess such a sign would potentially upset these males because they think they’re women, and God forbid we cause men who want to use women’s changing areas any upset. Their feelings are paramount, right, @JenniferBarkley and @Didimum ?

Bangolads · 05/08/2022 08:41

This is just another example of how women are being silenced. I’m always intrigued when they’d at that women are going against the science. What science exactly?

Iamclearlyamug · 05/08/2022 08:32

@JenniferBarkley but it wasn't a woman was it? It was, in fact, a MAN WATCHING LITTLE GIRLS GET CHANGED!

On what planet is that ok?!

Didimum · 05/08/2022 08:31

CrossStichQueen · 05/08/2022 08:20

Didimum do you know what is true...what's true is that a male was in the female changingroom standing next to several little girls while they are undressing. Is that OK with you?

I don’t believe a man with a penis or a TW with a penis, or anyone else, is a ‘pervert’ on the basis one person perceiving the individual to be ‘looking’. The pool allows TW (pre operative or other) to use the women’s changing space. If the elderly woman didn’t agree with that or had concerns then her course of action should be to bring it up with the pool or whatever the equivalent is of her local council. Not to ask what someone’s genitalia is.

Helleofabore · 05/08/2022 08:30

Didn’t you see the twitter advice from Laurie Penny, a well known feminist? Little girls should turn their head away if in the presence of a penis in view.

And all this talk about, not asking about the penis, pps have already explained this perfectly. By reducing humans to their body parts, you are insisting that penises be part of the discussion.

To admonish a woman asking if a person had a penis when this is the result of this forced language, is obviously an act of silencing.

FrancescaContini · 05/08/2022 08:27

TopKnotch · 05/08/2022 08:21

@FrancescaContini I complained vociferously, referencing the DfE guidance and stating clearly what my concerns were.

I didn't get a reply. I got the feeling that my strident assertion that I and my DC were not 'assigned a gender at birth' and that I felt that DC should be taught that "some people believe" gender identity ideology in the same way that they are taught other belief systems was so shocking the school felt they could no longer engage with someone so blasphemous. (They had replied to my initial complaint with a re education email first.)

My DC speak new speak, they're completely and utterly brainwashed and truly believe that people can flip flop between sexes. Their friends were talking about a new supply teacher said "we don't know their pronouns" when the others discussed that they didn't know if they wanted to be called Miss or Sir. I asked if the teacher was male or female and the reply was "they could be trans or bon binary". I asked my DC later and was told that they were a very obviously female member of staff. I found the belief that this person could be male identifying as female interesting. They're being set up.

I will be really interested to see if the Cass report has any impact this academic year.

I’m so shocked by what you’ve written. It’s appalling. The whole school management has been brainwashed.

Re the school not acknowledging your concerns: are you going to take this further? The board of governors? LEA?

Are you going to keep your kids there?

Franca123 · 05/08/2022 08:26

I'm really concerned about the news that pride flags mean that I should know that female changings room may have men in. I didn't know that. So the whole of the month of pride I shouldn't have used my leisure centre? Someone should have made that clear to me. Next pride month, I'll ask for a refund on my fees in that case. And I won't be going into the office as that's permanently festooned with pride flags.

Helleofabore · 05/08/2022 08:24

Helleofabore · 05/08/2022 07:34

So, she should have waited then? While the male continued to watch the girls?

This is a woman who has dealt with abused women and children for decades. She helped set up the first shelters in the area after using her home.

Do you think her interpretation of the harm being done here was wrong?

And that she should have allowed it to continue until she was dressed and left the girls to speak to management?

When you consider the situation, do you really think that is the appropriate action? Or should a woman in that position (shocked and reacting on instinct) no longer react to try to remove the potential harm they see in front of them?

Should we all now wait and calmly speak to management after the event?

As Jennifer didn’t answer my questions, maybe Didimum will answer.

So we will know the acceptable words and procedure to use if we believe a girl, or boy, is in immediate risk of harm (including if we have decades of safeguarding experience and experience dealing with abused women and children)

LovinglifeAF · 05/08/2022 08:21

Didimum · 05/08/2022 08:17

Agreed. This is one woman who perceived the TW to be ‘looking’ - was that true? Who knows. Not appropriate, ever, to ask about someone’s genitalia, unless in a medical capacity. She should have reported her concerns to the management of the pool.

Whether the TW was looking at the kids or not, this male shouldn’t be in a female changing room
