I've not seen a thread on Amy on MN and the search didn't show up anything. She seems to be being put through the wringer by tras and by her nursing college.

I thought if she saw this thread it might be cheering Flowers, she's on twitter. I found her thanks to Bette.

Yes, still going on. Now it is the college's rebuttal to Bildy's closing argument. The panel are asking him questions.

nauticant · 19/03/2024 21:37

Is this still going on? If so I'll log back in when I'm (shortly) back home.

fallfallfall · 19/03/2024 21:30

@DrBlackbird if she was 20 in the sixties that would make her?? 80??

DrBlackbird · 19/03/2024 21:27

I really don’t understand how a feminist lesbian lawyer cannot see the need for protecting women’s spaces. But then she saw fit to drain a rape relief centre of funding by forcing it into multiple protracted legal battles to try to enable a natal man to volunteer. How does that square with any feminist principles? Or even plain human decency. Depressing.

In the 1960s, findlay was admitted to a psychiatric ward against her will during her first year of university for admitting she was attracted to women

fallfallfall · 19/03/2024 21:21

i thought it would continue but my feed dropped at about 2pm. i've not been able to log back on?

I've turned the video screen off as I can't bear to see bf's blue haired gormlessness.

Ah… blue hair. Say no more.

We're doing so well on TERF island.

Also referring to Meade v SWE

Citing UK caselaw...

Allison Bailey v Stonewall

Tribunal doesn't have to adjudicate on the debate
Beliefs do not need to be expressed nicely

Also refers to Forstater v CGD

Snowypeaks · 19/03/2024 18:44

Three years of this! Poor Amy.

chilling19 · 19/03/2024 18:42

Bildy doing a good job. I like that she is pointing out how things have moved on in the three years since Amy was accused.

ILikeDungs · 19/03/2024 18:24

UK protecting women, unlike Canada. Yes!

Signalbox · 19/03/2024 18:23

From previous determinations I can see online it looks like the Edna McLellan (chair) is a registered nurse. She has the initials RN written next to her name.

I don't know if this publication titled "Women’s Wellness: An Integrative Literature Review and Evaluation Proposal" is written by the same Edna McLellan but if it is then I feel a little more hopeful for Amy. The paper is pretty TERFY by today's standards. No reference at all to "cis" women or "trans" people or "birthing parents" etc.

Following. Thank you for listening in to this shit to keep the rest of us informed.

Signalbox · 19/03/2024 17:37

Interesting she's asking the panel to follow the UK courts.

chilling19 · 19/03/2024 17:19

Nice reference to George Orwell.

chilling19 · 19/03/2024 17:16

Ok, we are off with Amy's closing arguments

The discussion is now the I ❤ JKR billboard. There was a discussion about nexus, where the reasoning was shaky, and now there's a discussion of its meaning and how it can be interpreted. The reasoning here is "well, JKR is a transphobe".

A photo of the billboard.

I'll give it a try with the archive links then. Apologies for the multiple posts.

Amy, if you happen to read this, I am so sorry for what you're being put through. Not just from the cry-bullies who put you in this mess but all the so-called professionals who have enabled and encouraged this witch hunt. As a former nurse it's awful to see what your professional body is putting you through and how captured they are. Nursing, and medicine in general, used to be about evidence based practice, not feelings and hyperbole.

You are an incredibly strong woman. I am honestly in awe. I wish you the best and I genuinely hope that the panel see sense.

IcakethereforeIam · 19/03/2024 10:04

I've been able to post archive.ph links with no problem. Sometimes MN will quarantine posts from archive sites and then allow them up.

Thank you, everyone, for the updates on yesterday's head case.

Sorry, I didn't realize those were paywalled link. They weren't when I was reading them so I thought I could share. Hmm. Putting them into archive.ph will fix that though. Is it ok to post the archive links here?

Canadianmouse · 19/03/2024 09:45

C-16 was one thing. Our upcoming Online Harms bill is even more concerning. Potentially indefinite house arrest on just the suspicion that you're about to commit a hate crime? And that includes saying mean things online...

I really hope the writers are just blowing things out of proportion but the way things have been going in Canada for the past few years... It's worrying.

Canada considers house arrest for people at risk of committing hate crimes

Critics warn ‘draconian’ proposed law is an overreach of power and could stifle free speech

Here's a question to those who've been following this carefully. To what extent are the panel members capable of writing a judgment at the level of sophistication we've seen in cases like Forstater etc?

If it's anything like the UK they will either have a legal adviser who sits with the panel to advise them on the law or otherwise the chair will be legally qualified. The panel are usually comprised of at least one registrant and at least one lay member. The lay members tend to have lots of experience in similar areas so the quality of the determinations are generally (but not always) of good standard.

Snowypeaks · 19/03/2024 01:15

There's the Canadian constitution, which might be helpful, but AH would have to take the case to the highest court in the land, presumably?

Regarding BF's long-windedness, does anyone else wonder if she is trying to eat up the time so that the case has to be adjourned again?

Snowypeaks · 19/03/2024 01:06

nauticant · 18/03/2024 23:26

Yes. It's the core of her argument.

Good grief. How does that even qualify as a legal argument?
