I've not seen a thread on Amy on MN and the search didn't show up anything. She seems to be being put through the wringer by tras and by her nursing college.

I thought if she saw this thread it might be cheering Flowers, she's on twitter. I found her thanks to Bette.

This quote from one of the articles:

barbara findlay KC, legal counsel for the BCCNM, who requests that her name be written without capital letters to express something about oppression, objected, claiming that the question of what a female is was outside Bauer's area of expertise.

Bauer is a Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, Ontario. Bauer is also a female.

I watched a couple of days of the expert (Greta Bauer) for the college being cross examined. It is terrifying how much influence this woman must have over Canadian public health policy. She receives millions in funding for her "research". She is completely ideologically driven. She is like an Aunt Lydia or a Dolores Umbridge. I feel so sorry for Amy Hamm to be up against this reality denying nonsense. If the panel are captured she doesn't stand a chance.

IcakethereforeIam · 30/10/2022 12:52

Tweet thread on the last few days of the case. I can't read the articles as I've quite badly sprained my eyes at the headings.

bf also identifies that she uses lowercase letters

What is that all about? Is it another identity thing or cultural.
I've never seen it before.

How does one identify as having lower case letters anyway. Am I dead- casing them if I use capitals? What do they do if instructed to write their name in block caps on a form, melt?

I would like to believe this person is taking the absolute piss but sadly its just more Malice in wonderland...

I'm watching this tonight. It's a bit more interesting tonight because Greta Bauer is being cross-examined and she's getting a bit of a grilling.

ChlorineChris · 25/10/2022 07:23

It's interesting to read the very clear district being made around definitions there. That they are separating out male/female as sex based terms. I think there a bit behind the TRA times tbh.

DaughterofDawn · 25/10/2022 04:16

Good luck Amy! Please Canada don’t let me down! 😣🇨🇦🙏🏻

The hearing against Amy Hamm is continuing, it's being live tweeted (I think, not sure because of time difference). Link to first tweet of thread:

barbara talks about her use of lower case letters in her name in her ‘unlearning oppression’ workshops. Basically she got some letterheads printed where she liked the look of it in lowercase and decided to carry on writing it this way.

Nurse Who Publicly Supported J.K. Rowling, Targeted By Trans Activists, Faces Hearing From Canadian Medical Board

A Canadian nurse who publicly supported famed “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling and insists that men cannot become women, is at risk of losing her job as she faces a hearing from a national medical board.

As far back as November 2020, Amy Eileen Hamm, a single mother with two young sons, has faced an investigation from the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) after two people had lodged complained about her, according to the nurse. She is now in the midst of a three-day hearing, after which she will face another hearing in October.

“I was denounced with the slur ‘TERF’ (trans-exclusionary radical feminist), which was in 2016,” Hamm wrote in April 2022 in Quillette. The term “TERF” has also been used by transgender activists to target Rowling, for whom Hamm helped put up a billboard expressing her support, simply writing, “I ♥ JK Rowling.”

Once she became aware of the threat to her livelihood, Hamm initially hired attorney Lisa Bildy, then with Canada’s Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms explaining, “I had no assurances that my union-provided legal representative wouldn’t be ideologically sympathetic with my accusers.”

“And as it turned out, this was a good call: My province’s nurses’ union has since lobbied the Canadian government (without, to my knowledge, consulting members) to pass a controversial bill that threatens healthcare workers with prison time if they do not immediately ‘affirm’ the stated gender of any patient, no matter how young,” she added.

Hamm is adamant about her opposition to the radical gender theory sweeping Canada and the U.S.

“Men are not women. Humans are a dimorphic species,” Hamm wrote in her April article. “Women and men are biologically different from one another. Women and girls have sex-based rights as a result of those differences. Those rights are under threat. This is the truth. It has always been the truth. Speaking the truth should not be a punishable offense.”

The Justice Centre issued a July 2021 press release expressing concern that activists are “weaponizing” agencies that regulate professions in a bid to force people to adopt radical ideologies. The agencies use lengthy disciplinary procedures, even when the complaints are from activists and not clients or, in Hamm’s case, patients, the group said.

“The Justice Centre’s submissions defend the right of health professionals to express their opinions on matters of policy in the public square and argue that everyone is entitled to freedom of thought, belief, opinion, and expression, as guaranteed by the Charter—including health professionals,” they added.

Hamm has said her case was important for the future of nurses and midwives throughout Canada.

“If I win my case, I believe that the dividends will accrue to nurses and midwives all across my province, and maybe even the whole country. The precedent will help ensure that we can call out gender-identity ideology without fear of reprisal or loss of livelihood,” Hamm said.

I cut this out from bell hooks obituary, seemed pertinent:

You mean she didn't call for capital punishment?

Misstache · 23/09/2022 16:04

I was looking up why bell hooks didn’t capitalize her name, because I couldn’t remember what her reasoning was, and I thought this was interesting. Note how she made a choice about how she wanted to represent her name but didn’t police people getting it wrong. She certainly didn’t shake and scream and cry and become suicidal if someone miscapitaled her.

bf also identifies that she uses lowercase letters

When men use use uppercase for their pronouns it's like being back in Sunday School; I'm sure they identify as Gods.

I just googled 'Amy Hamm', this thread was the sixth result. The lack of media interest, especially in Canada, is staggering. The statement supporting Amy is very good. Apparently, Doc Stock is a witness for her!

None of this is in the news here in Canada, which is typical.

RIGHT???

I try to listen to The Feminist Current podcast every now and then. No one seems to be writing about this on the CBC, in the Globe…

fallfallfall · 23/09/2022 02:20

well done to Amy for her well written statement concerning the consent agreement.
on totally different matter i was forced to sign one. i was a proud nurse for 30+ years and paid my dues to what was once the bcna...now with more letters of the alphabet added in and more each year.

It is all so delightfully 16th century. The century's version of Do you or do you not accept the Real Presence in the Eucharist?" The human race - nothing new under the sun. I suppose at least they aren't actually beheading/hanging/burning ... so far

No beheadings or hangings. Just banning people from social media platforms, removing them from their jobs, shouting at them in the street. Difficult to believe we live in a so-called democracy.

But yes, your analogy is dead on.

A tweet from the live tweeting from @goinglikeelsie who also did the Yaniv court cases, gives a flavour of what Amy is up against:

https://twitter.com/goinglikeelsie/status/1572666165994074113?s=46&t=1wZ-I24n0SZAFaTFtsQB7g

Chair asks lawyers to introduce themselves and invites them to share their pronouns.

For the College:

Michael Seaborn, He/Him
Brent Olthuis, He/Him
barbara findlay She/Her

bf also identifies that she uses lowercase letters

except in her pronouns apparently - beautifully capitalised.
