Amy Hamm - Canadian Nurse being disciplined for being GC

I've not seen a thread on Amy on MN and the search didn't show up anything. She seems to be being put through the wringer by tras and by her nursing college.

I thought if she saw this thread it might be cheering Flowers, she's on twitter. I found her thanks to Bette.

I hope Amy is doing okay and if she sees this, Amy you’re not alone being gc in BC (although most days it feels like that to me).

I'm also in BC (and a registrant of the College of Nurses and Midwives, god help me). There are so many more of us who are GC (or at least very sceptical) than you realize. I learn it all the time through quiet conversations.

I have signed up for the Hamm hearing, got the invite to the meeting, joined but still waiting. Don't know if something is wrong or it is just me (meant to start 10 am Canadian time, 3 pm UK)

ILikeDungs it’s a bit confusing but from what I can work out it’s UTC -7 and it’s currently only 09:04 in that time zone so perhaps try again in an hour. I’m going to be logging in as well.

I hadn’t opened this thread before, but am horrified. I had some awareness of the fact that Canada was up to its knees in this ideology, but I see now that it’s actually so deep that they’re in over their heads and are starting to lose sight of reality. That this is happening to a nurse, who seems to be in the impossible situation where all those above her believe something wholly ascientific and unmedical, is mindblowing.

As far as the pronouns go, it absolutely is normal now in much of Canada, certainly in my jobs (government) it is fucking rampant. I despair of how unthinking my fellow Canadians are, apparently they will agree that the moon is made of green cheese if they’re told it’s right-think.

I hope Amy is doing okay and if she sees this, Amy you’re not alone being gc in BC (although most days it feels like that to me).

Well for starters the members of the committee who will decide on Amy's case will possibly take her seriously.

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University where she is a Professor, Epidemiology and Biostatistics clearly take her seriously

All the organisations who pay millions of dollars to fund her research.

Take a look at the list of publications who have published her work.

I don't doubt that this is a woman of great influence in Canada. She is a prolific activist and researcher. If nobody took her seriously she would not have built a successful decades long career doing what she does.

Someone's testimony, perhaps it was Dr Bauer, was reminiscent of that given by the Stonewall person in Allison Bailey's tribunal. You know, the one who needed their mum, a support person and a dog. Both of these people have talked about how humans change sex several times during life. The doctor said it in slightly more medical-type language than the SW person but the idea is the same. Where on earth is it coming from?

The scary thing about Bauer is that she is much much more credible than the support dog witness. Not so much in what she is saying (although she is very good at expressing the ideological view point and AH's lawyer was clearly exasperated at times by how well Bauer was answering) but in how far up the ladder of influence she has positioned herself. Did you read the parts where they explored the amount of funding she receives for her public health research. It is millions of $$$. She is clearly very influential and it no longer surprises me how captured Canada is. All you would need is a few individuals like Bauer at the top of your institutions and you would be screwed. She was a really chilling witness.

If I'd been there, listening to her testimony and I'd been asked for my thoughts, I think I'd just have been gaping, like a recently landed fish. Words will have completely failed me. Just when you think you've reached peak batshit....full of surprises!
