Novel by Trans Woman author features death of JK Rowling, removal of womb from Black Woman

The link is from last October - this is the first I’ve heard of it (not that I’m well versed in this oeuvre!) Maybe JKR’s lawyers have been working in the background? Hopefully a film involving such an obscenely violent, misogynistic storyline against a female who receives death threats in real life, won’t see the light of day? Or at least that section of the storyline will be removed? I’m sure there are enough transgender people who wouldn’t want to see such a film either - even if they aren’t fans of JKR.

Aye, it's a surprising choice if you're hoping to persuade people that trans identifying males are placid, peaceful, and sane.

it’s not the medicine that’s to be worried about but the ethics, & ensuring there’s no attempt to discriminate against trans women when the inevitable legislation governing uterine transplants is written.

Black women are routinely STILL offered only hysterectomies to treat uterine fibroids despite a less invasive treatment being available. This suggestion black women’s wombs be taken by a majority white male group is happening not simply in a context of dreadful historical abuses, but one of ongoing ill-treatment of black women by privileged white people (of doctors in America are white & only 5% are black [and/]or African American).

It’s remarkable to read the discussions round it on Twitter: instantly & summarily dismissed by TRA’s as not simply fake but engineered to stir up transphobia. Twitter’s helpfully supplied the genius-level analysis that as the chat belongs to/is hosted by a black trans woman it MUST be Evil Fakery because That Would Never Happen. Um, but - as the black women they were talking over, ignoring & shouting down kept explaining - yes, it would, does, did, had, has, & this makes a stunning & brave example.

Crucially, however, despite it so obviously being a complete & ridiculous fake that it is both incredible & absurd that anyone could have been taken in: if you should see something like this you mustn’t ever EVER post about/discuss it because doing so puts trans women at risk. As ever, it’s about the group who identify as oppressed & marginalised & powerless - & of course the frankly offensive nonsense about uterus transplants for trans women. The authors really REALLY should have known better than to publish a parlour game; but far more blame lies with the Journal who not only published their ascientific nonsense, but commentary on it that insists uterine transplants for trans women are just around the corner & it’s not the medicine that’s to be worried about but the ethics, & ensuring there’s no attempt to discriminate against trans women when the inevitable legislation governi

Henrietta Lacks’ family have suffered dreadfully because of an ongoing staggering lack of respect for the bodily autonomy of black people & for the black community. The vast majority of girls & women who are affected by FGM are black. Or of course there’s “just” the current reality of drastic health inequality in both the UK & the US (& elsewhere, I know, but I’m most familiar with the UK & US situations - I don’t think they’re more important) having a tragic impact on the maternal mortality rates of black mothers: MBRRACE 2021 Report (UK); Black Women’s Maternal Health: A Multifaceted Approach to Addressing Persistent and Dire Health Disparities (National Partnership for Women & Families, April 2018 [US] - & CDC statistics show things have got worse since).

This is the sort of thing that the censors used to be able to stop in films and books but the freedom of speech lobbying was taken over by manipulative certain types with loathsome agendas.

Appalling that anyone at all would think or say such a thing, let alone put it in a book. And yet Macmillan, one of the Big Five publishing houses, with a reputation built on scientific and educative publishing, is fine with it.

People on twitter did some digging to confirm that it had genuinely happened and has been corroborated. The room/room host had a history of targeting black women. Looks like the publication of Falkner-Martin's book and its scene with a black woman having her womb removed incited the host to plumb further depths.

It’s really nasty yet has the look of a 10-year-old’s scrapbook…odd!

I saw this nasty, hateful post on the Instagram reel of an account that is all about body positivity, anti-bullying, 'kindness' and trans awareness (one half of the couple is a transwoman). They've criticised JKR before and some comments have been foul but this, in my opinion, really crossed the line. They are basically saying they love the 'concept' of JKR being burned alive at her home! And to top it off have the audacity (and the lack of critical thinking skills) to say 'once again JK makes it all about her again'. WTF - it IS about her! As far as I know JKR herself hasn't said anything publicly about this book. I reported the post as hate speech to Instagram. How can this account not see the rank hypocrisy of this. Unbelievable.

How stupid do you have to be to think you can ensure the survival of the species by killing the actual women?

This kind of mindset has no longterm thinking, or care or consideration for anything or anyone but self gratification. Me, Now, I want, thwart me and you'll be sorry. It's the behaviour of a toddler stunted in a large body. An adult should be ashamed of themselves, but there isn't even the self awareness or sufficient ability to step away from the ego to realise how this appears to others or that there's anything wrong with it.

As a society we're going to have to get a whole lot better at managing and having boundaries with adults with capacity issues such as this.

I believe it is almost impossible in the US for JK Rowling to sue the author. IANAL but I think there is a concept of someone being a public figure which matters here. Private persons can sue for defamation but the bar is very very high for public figures who must prove actual malice.

Not that I would waste my time buying that book or anything else that person writes.

I do read horror, zompoc etc.. but that is just the badly written ramblings of someone who comes across as very disturbed.

I will not buy another book from Tor Nightfire for as long as that is in print no matter who the author is.

US laws are very different, it's why so many people try to bring their action in the UK.

The book has been out for some time. I should think that the author would welcome publicity and any acquired martyr status.

I rely upon JKR's judgment as to appropriate actions that she would like to see.

I don't get this, I thought that publishers jumped through hoops to make sure characters in books didn't resemble anyone in real life?

The author is American, so it depends on how their laws are as well as UK laws, I imagine. A subject for specialist lawyers. Of which I'm very sure JKR has access to.

I don’t see why this is not being treated as a threat or a hate crime? Really hoping JKR will sue.

Yep, I think people are seeing it being promoted and buying as a result... but unfortunately they definitely enjoy the content too.

Quick search of the user... they clearly know their audience.
