The best anti-porn evidence I've seen.

(Please watch with caution, some scenes are upsetting)

K999 I lurk on these threads as well and sometimes occasionally post. I also have a limited knowledge base. What do I know about men compared to the experts to be found here who can explain them to me? They are like MH, who can explain to Felicity about women. Dittany gave you fair warning - she was prepared to disregard your mother blaming, but you persisted in your blasphemy. That was unwise of you.

PeterAndreForPM · 07/04/2011 22:58

I don't have a thorough understanding of the subject and have always been clear about that

I am shockingly poorly-read on feminist topics, both on MN and in the wider world

I saw this documentary years ago and watched it again yesterday, having made no reference to it to myself nor anyone else in the intervening years

There is no excuse for inanity though...I call it here, I would call it anywhere where a serious discussion is being had

As I would expect to be called on it myself

One final comment then. Commenting on a public forum means people base their views on the knowledge they have (well I do usually). That may be limited knowledge or in depth knowledge. Whatever level that knowledge may be should be treated with some kind of respect. Just because others may not agree does not make my comment any less worthy. And yes a lot of comments are also based on belief. But belief (in my opinion) comes with a thorough understanding of a subject. I was merely trying to understand this vast topic. Yes I do lurk, but I confess that I do not have time to read all posts and all threads on this topic.

You also have to feel sorry for the parents of psychopaths. My ex's mum was on antidepressants. The issue there was not her causing problems for him but him causing problems for her.

I walked away but she is still stuck with him because she loves her son. She is a nice woman.

Some of these people are just born that way.

But, K999, if you lurk on this board you will surely have read about rape culture, objectification of women, male violence etc and the way it all interlinks. We, too, are exploring the issue, from the point of view that the whole porn culture and women as the sex-class results in situations like Felicity's.

claig · 07/04/2011 22:36

K999 I am sorry to see you leave. I think you did ask good questions. Some people are possibly born evil, but the vast majority are made evil through their upbringing and society. No one knows exactly why they turn out as they do. But I do think that a latent resentment towards either a controlling father or mother is a factor that can turn people to do evil things.

JessinAvalon · 07/04/2011 22:36

@Claig...that's what I meant....no more Daily Sport. These men would stop making porn if they couldn't make money out of it.

K999 · 07/04/2011 22:31

Ok. I shall leave the thread now. I am just trying to explore the issue further. I have said I am not blaming mothers, merely making an observation. As I have said, I lurk round these threads and occasionally post because I am interested. It is my mistake because I didnt realise you had to be a feminist to comment. The few comments I have made usually get ridiculed, or I am made to to feel dense or abhorrent. Anyway accept my apologies. I shall go and comment on a thread about make up, shoes or parenting. I know my place and will leave a thread where I feel over powered. Than you all for letting me contribute (even with a limited knowledge base).

claig · 07/04/2011 22:29

I heard the other day that the Daily Sport has filed for bankruptcy.

K999, why don't you pm Andre1960 ?

I am sure he could help you with your dilemma

K999 · 07/04/2011 22:24

Dittany - but why do these people want to exert control over another person? And in no way am I saying that his mother made him do it. Its just a view that I have based on what I have read/seen. I just would like to dig deeper about the psyche of these individuals.

JessinAvalon · 07/04/2011 22:23

Some people don't have a reason for behaving the way they do. Call it psychopathy, call it evil. Either way, it's extremely dangerous. Porn gives these men an excuse to abuse women. I wish men would stop buying it. A bit like the Daily Sport...

I think rapists are cowards. They pick on weaker defenceless women. They don't do what Ronnie Kray did because they would then be in danger from the other criminal. That recent rapist who raped old people in their homes was a coward. They are evil and weak themselves and they get sadistic pleasure from controlling others, exerting power over them and witnessing their fear.

K999 · 07/04/2011 22:19

And ironically I get that feminism is about stopping this cycle???

Lol. Have not singled out mothers. As I have mentioned I am no expert. Only commenting on the (very little) that I know. However, I know men who expect their wives/partners to do everything for them simply because their mothers treated them like babies most of their lives. My friend still gets up at 7am to make her son (22) his breakfast, iron his shirt for work, make his packed lunch, drive him to work, call him twice a day to make sure he is ok, make his dinner when he comes home and vets his girlfriends!

K999 · 07/04/2011 22:12

I think that most people accept that rape is more about power/control/anger than about sex....but what makes a man want to rape another person? Control and anger can be displayed in other ways. Ie the Krays....what is it about some that rape seems to be the outlet for this behaviour?

AyeRobot · 07/04/2011 22:09

K999, have you really just singled out mothers as the cause for male psychopaths, on a thread about violent porn, on the feminism board?Shock

claig · 07/04/2011 22:07

I think rapists are the same. Rape is largely about power and degrading and humiliating a defenceless victim.

K999 · 07/04/2011 22:03

I am in no way an expert or even educated in this field but I always find it fascinating that when programmes on TV try to explore this issue (ie what makes a man commit heinous crimes/evil) they somehow attribute this to their childhood.....usually a controlling/possessive mother?
