2001 channel 4 documentary on porn

I just finished watching it and it was every bit as disturbing as I remember it when I saw it first. To think the industry has got even MORE extreme that this in 10 yrs is also worrying to note. The things that seemed extreme and abusive for her then; anal sex, hair pulling, are the absolute norm now.

Andre's talk of his daughter is reminding me of a thread in which people talked about their dads using porn and how it has damaged their relationship with them and destroyed their respect for them as a father.

porn-using men are kidding themselves if they think they can maintain a good relationship with a daughter while abusing women through porn.

Andre is disgustingly creepy. It's awful to think that there are people like that out there, and even worse to think that he's a parent. i hope he's lying about that.

I distinctly remember the Ch. 4 series on porn, but I don't know if it was this one (it must have been in about 2004) which I watched with my flat mate. Previously, she thought porn was funny, amusing, until there was a documentary about a Canadian girl who went to work in the industry in LA, and contracted HIV in the first movie she did. My flat mate know longer thought of porn as a joke after that.

And re: porn and love. There's no connection, none whatsoever.

I have read about this film but I don't think I can bring myself to watch it. Pathetic I know. I suspect it should be required viewing for anyone who defends porn however.

An awful moment in this is when she says she feels happy that she has the documentary crew there because it makes her feel secure. Can you imagine how vulnerable and alone these girls are during this slow, slow process of breaking them down.

The men did NOT know better than her about her limits. They just ignoreed her, did it anyway and broke her down. They knew it would happen so had clearly done it before. It was about pushing the vulnerable one around and bullying her and dominating her. They did not know better than her.

Yup Milly. Maybe these Johns are not content with double anal/ vaginal/ ATM/ gang bangs/ spitting/ strangulation/ verbal abuse (makes them feel so much better about themselves when they've got an underdog to abuse) that for variety and and to keep things from becoming mainstream boring abusive they need another accent! It's even better when they know they've been separated from family, friends and safety.

It's all part of the exploitation, degradation, humiliation and fear. It's what gets so many of them off.

English - it was saying that near the beginning of the documentary. They bring girls over from England because they can get more money for being English. I find that very difficult to believe.

Do you mean "English" or "English speaking"??

I find it difficult to believe that there is a market for English women and that a woman can make more money for being English. It seems to me more about getting women to a location where they are a long way from family and friends, in order to make them more vulnerable, remove them from any other reality, and make them less likely to get out of the situation.

Like honeymum I watched this when it was first shown. I was only about 21 and it shocked and sickened me.

Anyway, has the thread been derailed by Andre? I've been a feminist from about 13 (even though I didn't identify as one because I had not yet been introduced) whereby, I knew things were wrong, lots of things, but especially within the area of porn.

Oh dear. A bit like being in a hen house with clucking chickens here! Maybe I should try to be a little more conventional and speak of my shock and outrage. I'm sometimes here for these, dittany. Not nearly so often as you, I think.

Can I ask (sorry if it a bit off topic), has anybody come across internet debates between straight men, or mostly men, where they have a debate about their concerns over exploitation in porn, or whether some porn companies should be avoided, or who should be responsible - the producer, the distributor or the consumer.

Are these debates happening anywhere?
