Apologies if there's already a thread, I couldn't see one.

Anyone else watching?

Supernatural thriller set on an oil rig off Scotland.

It's got Iain Glen (that's me, I'm in 😁), Martin Compston, Marc Bonnar, Richard People, Ser Alliser Thorne from GOT, a new Scottish actress (who's good) and Rochendra Sandall.

I'm deliberately not reading any reviews as I'm enjoying it and don't want to be put off.

@CampervanKween yup same here. I loved his character in Catastrophe and actually found him really sexy, which I’m not sure was what they were going for.🤪

CampervanKween · 09/01/2023 15:23

Yes agree Compton is terrible.

CampervanKween · 09/01/2023 15:22

Mark Bonnar is one of my favourite actors ever. Love him in Catastrophe. And many other things, actively seek out programmes he is in.

Anyway, discovered I'd already watched one episode of The Last Ship and stopped. But ploughed on gamely. Yes, the nuclear warhead they somehow ducked but went on to wipe out France was indeed most amusing.

Hedjwitch · 09/01/2023 13:56

Yes the early demise of one of the few good actors in it,hasnt helped things

Chikapu · 09/01/2023 13:50

It's utter shite. Emily Hampshire is awful, just completely wrong for the part and judging by her expressions I'd say she feels the same!

We watched a few episodes of The Last Ship and found it hilarious, we had bets on what disaster would happen next and how many cliches they could squeeze out of it. The nuke flying over the ship was beyond funny.

Rollergirl11 · 09/01/2023 13:46

Watched 2 episodes. I’m also really gutted about the demise of a certain actor who is an absolute pleasure to watch. Can’t believe they have managed to come to the conclusions they have about the ash based on some fillings and tattoos! It’s a bit preposterous but finding it entertaining so far.

AnyFucker · 09/01/2023 09:53

Martin Compton is hugely over rated. More wooden than my grandads leg.

AnyFucker · 09/01/2023 09:52

Yep, laughable is the right word.

Absolute garbage so tried The Last Ship.

that was worse

We watched 1 episode of the last ship and laughed alot. When I told DH there were 5 seasons he fell off the sofa 😁

BarrelOfOtters · 09/01/2023 07:32

Controversial opinion but I never like Compton’s acting.

PearPickingPorky · 09/01/2023 07:07

We've watched the first 4 episodes. I can't believe how bad Compton and the Canadian woman's acting is, or maybe it's just a terrible script. But the other two women (Heather and the medic, whose name I can't remember- Kat?) are good. Heather is really good. Baz is good. Bonnar is really good.

But I don't think I'm going to finish it. I don't think I like where this is going.

AnyFucker · 09/01/2023 06:51

Absolute garbage so tried The Last Ship.

that was worse

TCMolly · 09/01/2023 06:23

Binged watched it last night. It was just OK, I watched it for the line up and in particular Iain Glen and Martin Compston.
The CGI was a bit odd.

SugarQills · 09/01/2023 01:19

I don't think
It's amazing but I want to know how it finishes!!

sneakyrussian · 09/01/2023 01:10

It's horrendous! Couldn't finish the first episode! Not a single likeable or none cliche character. The trade Union rep attacking the medic???? The "strong" American female lead 🙄. Incase you're wondering I didn't like it 🤣.

Hedjwitch · 08/01/2023 21:32

2 episodes in and not mad about it. Acting seems poor and every cliché in the book is used. Really only watched it for Ian Glen but he's no Ser Jorah in this.

It's a bit like The Abyss but no where near as good.

Awrite · 08/01/2023 21:14

Just finished it. Definitely think there could be a season 2.

Agree re lack of chemistry between Martin and the American. I wonder if they were playing it that way as you'd need to hide a relationship on a rig.

BarrelOfOtters · 08/01/2023 19:41

On episode 2 and undecided….agree about the acting and CGI and script….it’s all not as good as it should be given the great cast.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/01/2023 19:17

We’ve got one more episode to watch tonight - I’m really enjoying it and don’t want it to be over.

If I like this, what else might I like?

WandaWonder · 08/01/2023 19:17

I too think we are not meant to like the American one, who I think sounds Scottish sometimes, but I don't like the way she is playing it so she feels out of place in it

ButterfliesandMoths · 08/01/2023 19:15

Binged watched this yesterday, thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes not the best script in the world but by the end of it I was thinking I hope they do a season 2.

Mouthfulofquiz · 08/01/2023 19:07

I binged the whole lot in one day and might watch the last 2 or 3 episodes again just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I liked it a lot.

BestwisheswarmestregardstoJesusMaryJoseph · 08/01/2023 19:01

Emily Hampshire (who is Canadian) and Martin Compston’s characters just had no chemistry together. It’s such a shame because I think the dialogue was so bad it distracted from what could’ve been a great programme.

TheMagicSword · 08/01/2023 18:57

We watched it this week. I filed it as one of those “so near and yet so far” series - quite watchable and with a few tweaks could have been fantastic, but came out a bit bleurgh (technical term there).

DisforDarkChocolate · 08/01/2023 18:53

I thought it was absolutely crap. I love a bit of supernatural woo, this has a terrible script delivered by excellent actors who must have had a sudden tax bill to take this on.
