I fucking hated little Britain. My friends big brother is a wheelchair user and we’d take him the shops and the amount of utter dickheads who’d say “I want that one” at us when we’d wheel him past them was unreal.
It was racist, ableist and sexist shite. And deeply unfunny. It felt dated at the time. Aged like milk.

As a family we all used to watch Little Britain, mostly when I visited my parents. We all found it funny until one scene happened with the young man (Walliams?) perving directly on an old woman (OAP). The woman reminded my mum of her own mother and she actually found the sketch really distasteful and refused to watch LB after that.

This all feels a bit sus. Definitely feels like something truly horrible is about to come out about him.

I just don't believe that what's currently out there would be enough for the publishers to go scorched earth like this, and to make sure everyone knows it. They've put it on the news tonight that they're dropping his back catalogue. They could have just quietly phased him out. As other posters have said, they first dropped him last year. Why make a headline of it now?

This all feels very loud. Sadly, when a man is "just" creepy and inappropriate to women, publishers tend to make excuses for him and keep making their money, so this response has felt unusual to me from the start. It all feels very "charges pending". I suspect worse is coming.

I remember a number of years ago, a mumsnet thread asking which celeb gives you the creeps/you wouldn't be surprised to discover them being a wrong 'un and sbout 75% said Walliams.

I find his "children's" books misogynistic, ableist and often violent.

Plus there's this incident, pulling down the trousers snpants s of a 16 year old on stsge in front of hundreds.

Well, if we are going to critique it...

LB was the type of comedy that falls a rung or two below "lowest common denominator".

"Hahaha, they said that catchphrase they say", and "lol, vomit!" was the height of it.

I don't particularly care about the perceived offensiveness - there's plenty of shows I enjoy that have been far more controversial. It was just painfully unfunny and something of a national embarrassment.

It doesn't even reach the comparatively lofty "heights" of Mrs Brown's Boys.

If he hadn't have been this huge star through Little Britain then he would never have been given a publishing deal. His work as an author is rubbish. Relying on the same mockery of the working class, the physically 'imperfect', lazy stereotypes and racism.
He gives me the creeps and I am just really not sorry for him at all.

You can't separate art from the artist really. Because often the proceeds from their art is used to do harmful things. Millions of HP fans will continue to enjoy JK Rowling's books, franchises, theme parks and merch. JK admitted that she has donated and backed a change in the law by taking a case to the supreme Court that defines only a woman is a real woman if born with that biological sex. Sounds harmless doesnt it? Many trans women agree that their biological birth sex and chromosomes which can't be changed (even if other biological characteristics can be changed) are indeed male at birth whilst they are living as a woman now. But that definition hard baked into law means many trans women can be refused a place in a women's space. Yet neither are trans women safe in men''s spaces like gym changing rooms where they can be stared at, ogled, attacked or ridiculed. Trans women are women. Some trans women these days never developed as an adult male through puberty, they have been girls for a long time and forcing them into men' a spaces is shocking and not safe.

JK has abhorrent and discriminatory views on trans people, non binary people and now asexual people (What's wrong with not having a sex drive or sexual relationships? That's not a choice either) and those who separate her from her art are ignoring the fact that the millions in her revenue are being ploughed back in to support legislation that can be prejudicial to minority groups that she decides should not have the same freedoms as others.

What has the author David Walliams done with the proceeds of those buying his books I wonder. And can we stop him using his book revenue to do sleazy things we wouldn't approve of? Probably not. So why fund it? And how will our own kids feel when they grow up and find out that we were happy to give them books they enjoy without any discerning nature towards authors?

As a child I had a stuffed Golly. I didn't even know what it depicted until I grew up and found my Nan watching the Black & White minstrel show on telly. If my Mum had realised it was such a racist doll she wouldn't have let my Nan buy one for me. But parents considered it harmless and was "just a nice toy and the baby doesn't know it's racist, why not let the babe enjoy a Golly!) Patons Yarns Bazaar booklet even had a knitting pattern for a Golly featured on their cover. You can't separate that type of doll from it's complex and racist history. You can't separate the art from the artists.

The law wasn't changed. At all.

I suppose you could argue it was "iconic"
in the sense that it launched catchphrases like "computer says no", "only gay in the village", Vicky Pollard's "yeah but no but..." etc.

It could have been good in a zeitgeisty way but it went way too far and really plumbed the depths at times. It showed a contempt for anyone "not like them" - classist, racist, ageist, ableist - that seems typical of Walliams. I'm not sure about Lucas. But he was involved in it too so I can't give him a pass.

Also Tom Baker should have known better!

Agree with this. In my opinion Walliams' and Lucas's distaste for women, people with disabilities and others shone through right from the start. I just couldn't understand why it was ever popular.

A significant number of us found the three or four 'jokes' that were just repeated ad nauseum, pretty offence and unfunny at the time. And they'd basically been done before in programmes like mind your language and fat friends. LB wasn't original or funny and definitely not Iconic.
