Don’t really see partners mum since covid as lives a couple of hours away and she never travels . Previously it was small talk every few months . She came for Christmas lunch and this was my present . Aibu in thinking she is far shaming me ? When ever she sees her slightly overweight son she makes comments about how he looks pregnant . I used to run a lot don’t now .

It's a really strange slogan for a cushion, that's for sure! I mean it's not even funny , who would have it on display ?

Wow that is a bitchy present. Nasty.

I think that is acceptable for someone to buy for themselves, but never as a gift.

Yeah she's being rude! That would be going straight to the charity shop!

Is that what her humour is generally like? If she is constantly taking the piss out of people I'd say it was supposed to be funny. If not, then yeah, it's really odd.

I'd save it for her birthday and regift it to her. Mehehe

Crikey! That’s a pretty clear message! Very rude, put it in the bin.

I would say from what you have said that this is an insensitive gift, her intentions may or may not have been good, but unless it was some kind of inside joke or something, OP you're not being unreasonable at all

That’s just a straight up insult.

Why would someone want that in their house? Naff

It's certainly extremely common. And I don't mean in the ubiquitous sense.

Get rid of that.

Yes what a strange thing for a cushion

Like anyone would appreciate that! Does she have inappropriate stuff like that around her house? If not I would discreetly take it next time you visit and just leave it on her sofa as a joke

Maybe she thought it was funny, if you used to jog and no longer does.

Have you ever had a conversation about jogging causing your thighs to rub together?

I don’t think she’s fat shaming but it is a strange present.

girafferafferaffe · 26/12/2021 09:59

That'd be going straight to the bin!

Report
EmmasMum12 · 26/12/2021 09:59

Gosh. Unless you have that sort of relationship with her (free and easy piss taking) then she is making a not subtle point that she thinks you're fat

Either she is a controlling bitch (she wants a slim DIL) or she has some sort of brain disease (?dementia)

I agree, nasty.
What was your dh's take on it?

Ew!

As bad gifts go, it’s a classic!

I agree with it being funny if you buy it for yourself but just downright nasty if you buy it for someone else.

Get yourself a nice cushion cover and pop it over the top.

Horrible. Regift it to her.

To me it seems like quite a nasty, bitchy gift. I like the idea of @Eslteacher06 to re-gift it back on her birthday.
