@HasaDigaEebowai, the great British stuff upper lip will be the undoing of us in this case, I fear.

MotherOfDragonite · 26/02/2020 17:51

Checking in. @HasaDigaEebowai, that must be really frustrating given that you flagged up the issue with them earlier! Fingers crossed that you get some clarity soon.

BrokenBrit · 26/02/2020 17:51

I feel the same. The lack of testing (such as for my Dad) and the haphazard rules and just carrying on as normal is going to be a real problem.
I also have friends who are off to Italy this weekend and they are worried but not willing to lose their money, one is a nurse Sad.

HasaDigaEebowai · 26/02/2020 17:52

I think you might be right Gorky. Its a stupid policy. I know about this child for certain since DS2 has been texting with him but I suspect there will be others off throughout the school too who were there Monday and Tuesday. It just didn't need to happen.

Im off to Croatia in 10 weeks time, although we have more cases in the UK, it worries me, I want to be in my home if I get infected and not stranded like the people in the hotel in Tenerife. I know thats a complete over reaction from me, but its something I cant help thinking about.

I hope you DS is OK @HasaDigaEebowa

Germany's health minister says the country is at the start of an epidemic, urges local officials to prepare for a pandemic

FourTeaFallOut · 26/02/2020 18:00

How much effort would it have taken to have told kids returning from Northern Italy to stay off school on Sunday night when it was clear there was an ensuing situation? And now, not only is there a question mark over all those with coughs and colds from N.Italy but now the coughs and colds over every kid in the schools those kids attended.

AutumnCrow · 26/02/2020 18:01

I've got quite a few upcoming hospital appointments in three different departments and there has been no mention at all of coronavirus or hygiene.

Yet go to my local Asda, and there's a poster up on the main doors saying 'Don't come in here if you've recently been to any of these countries ... [massive list of countries]'.

I'm a bit Confused

Jenasaurus · 26/02/2020 18:02

Where did you hear about the 3rd case in Croatia ofwarren my map says 2 still

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 26/02/2020 18:02

Checking in, thanks for new thread

ofwarren · 26/02/2020 18:03

Ill get the source for you now Jen it will be from a local news source. They get the info before the map. The map is so far behind

ofwarren · 26/02/2020 18:04

NEW: Sweden reports 1 new case of coronavirus, country's second case t.co/eUoE2b20hL

Ciwirocks · 26/02/2020 18:04

Have you been to the hospital autumn? Ours has signs everywhere saying don’t enter if you have been to the following areas and direct people to the Coronavirus pod. They are all in English though, should have them in other languages as well I think especially Chinese

Jenasaurus · 26/02/2020 18:06

Thanks Ofwarren are you following the local news on Twitter? I cant keep up to be honest. I have just been chatting to one of the paramedics at work, I asked him if he is worried about the virus and he said "what virus!" Then when I explained he said, "no, why would I be, its just a mild virus in most cases and after 4 days you will feel better" Not sure if thats a comfort or a concern. I suppose he is out in the thick of it and has a lot more information to know what he is talking about, but I am not so sure.

ofwarren · 26/02/2020 18:08

@Jenasaurus A third case of #coronavirus has been confirmed today in Croatia.

The infected person is a man who works in Parma, Italy, and he has been hospitalised in the Croatian city of Rijeka.

Jen I follow a few bot accounts that do the work for me and skim all the local papers across the world. I sometimes have to manually find the original source but I'm totally fine to do that if people ask for it.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 26/02/2020 18:10

Checking back in.

ofwarren · 26/02/2020 18:11

Country of Georgia reports first case of coronavirus t.co/eUoE2b20hL

VivaLeBeaver · 26/02/2020 18:11

I work at a university and there is some talk about the possibility of closing/cancelling lectures if things get worse! I do worry as we have so many international students, lots of people mixing in close proximity.

Jenasaurus · 26/02/2020 18:12

Thanks Offwarren My friend is travelling to Portugal in 4 weeks, there havent been any cases there as far as I am aware, she said if it ends up being they cant go, TUI will transfer her holiday to another destination, but I imagine everywhere will have a case soon, so no where to go.

VivaLeBeaver · 26/02/2020 18:14

Pakistan now has a case.

Jenasaurus · 26/02/2020 18:14

The other side to this is, it may be the UK or some areas on lockdown in which case no one will be able to go anywhere on holiday. I live near Gatwick, very near so if my area was affected I imagine no one would be able to fly out from that airport.
