Have I gone too far?

After Id given my notice in I made it a priority to be genuinely nice and helpful to those colleagues who had been genuinely nice and helpful to me in the 15 years worked there.
The few who had been arseholes got the same back.
I was emigrating and didnt need references. They had piled work on me way over my paygrade and needed to keep me sweet so I would prepare a proper handover.
I also brought all the stuff up in the staff meetings that others wanted to and were afraid to.
I instigated my own exit meeting with HR.
@ohyesido I salute you 👏

It'll force me to do something meaningful with my life either way

Doubtful.

TPJB · 03/12/2024 16:41

Rude and childish.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 03/12/2024 16:41

Most companies who are thinking of cutting staff are really good at leaning on people to leave rather than pay out redundancy, and they put a lot of energy into that. I feel that winding them up is playing right into their hands.

Start job hunting now.. easier to do that if you are already in a job, rather than out and before you completely eff up your references. When you've lined up your next gig, you can plan a grand exit if that's what you like.

In the meantime, If they do call you in for written warning/disciplinary - it was just a joke and you thought he'd find it funny.

But try not to get sacked or disciplined, it will only follow you around and hinder your next phase.

Trimbleton · 03/12/2024 16:42

Why not be less passive and hand in your notice and find another job. It will give you agency and you will be less reliant on the actions of others. Take control !

DressOrSkirt · 03/12/2024 16:44

It's giving toxic man (the kind that start acting like dicks so you break up with them instead of just breaking up with you).

Timeheals · 03/12/2024 16:44

If you want to do something with your life - do it! Stop waiting for external forces to make you - make yourself. All you’re doing is giving someone a minor headache for a short period of time with passive aggressive nonsense like this. It will not get you noticed in a professional setting it will just reduce any respect and trust.

No reply so far

OP, redundancy applies to the job, not the person. If your job is considered essential you won’t get redundancy, but if you continue being rude to your bosses, and ‘pushing the boundaries’ you might find yourself fired for misconduct, which doesn’t attract any form of payment. You might want to familiarise yourself with the terms of redundancy before you go any further down this road because you don’t appear to actually know what it is.

So many people with a sense of humour bypass this afternoon.

So many people.

CyranoDeBergerQuack · 03/12/2024 16:48

As redundant as this thread

ohyesido · 03/12/2024 16:48

I know how redundancy works, my predecessor experienced it and I simply stepped into her shoes with a different job title. If I make a nuisance of myself I can go the same way. I have no job satisfaction and my industry is on a level with cockroaches in terms of public perception

@MissMoneyFairy such is life for a former beauty queen who is now referred to as reasonably attractive

Oh, never believe what your reflection tells you, a reflection only says those kind things because they get lonely sitting in the mirror all day on their own, so they try to engage you through flattering remarks.

In reality you are statistically likely to be average, if not slightly below. Average intelligence, average sense of humour, average looks.

Hyperbowl · 03/12/2024 16:56

Hoppinggreen · 03/12/2024 14:34

If you push it enough they could just sack you and get rid of you without having to pay a penny - good plan

This. What an absolute idiot you are if this is genuine.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

ExpressCheckout · 03/12/2024 17:02

Be careful OP. If you work for the public sector this kind of behaviour usually results in a promotion 😂

WimbyAce · 03/12/2024 17:03

🤣 I want to do this!!

AngelinaFibres · 03/12/2024 17:03

ohyesido · 03/12/2024 14:44

You're all very right but it amuses me to push the boundaries somewhat

Oh you're 14. That's hilarious then.

ohyesido · 03/12/2024 17:05

Oh climb down off those high horses. I'm a big fish in a small pond and I want to make a few ripples so what

Tittat50 · 03/12/2024 17:06

@ohyesido if this is real, you're probably living out many people's fantasy right now 🤷‍♀️🤣.

Will you get by if they sack you? Not sure if you can get a reference after dismissal.

LlynTegid · 03/12/2024 17:06

I think that you may be taking a gamble to expect redundancy, what may have happened to a former colleague might not happen to you.

The person who went out of their way during their notice period to be kind to the good ones (and vice-versa) reminded me of someone who retired and was very selective in who was invited to their retirement do. Officially because of space of course(!)

ohyesido · 03/12/2024 17:07

@viques I'm comfortable with how I look now, doing ok for 42 but hanker for the days when I could be described as very attractive rather than having been very attractive

Then focus on getting yourself a bigger pond and making yourself a big fish there, not making the job of someone else, who may not have that option, even worse.
