Hi Chrissols, Hope you enjoyed your hols. It looks like this one I have created may be the only new thread up to now.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 24/05/2022 11:44

@Whitestar55 thanks for including me. I did not realise we had reached the end of the old thread.
@Chrissols - been anywhere nice?

Whitestar55 · 24/05/2022 11:55

@Gally123 Glad you've found it. Hope you're having a good day with no home or work mishaps today!

OP posts:
Gally123 · 24/05/2022 11:57

@Whitestar55 - no mishaps, but still only late morning.....

Lindsaychad123 · 24/05/2022 12:12

hi ive started dict8 recently. is anyone able to mak a full time wage from this?

deflatedbirthday · 24/05/2022 12:18

@Whitestar55 thanks for the add!

Bugger all up from grabs in my speciality this morning!!

Meha5a · 24/05/2022 12:25

@Whitestar55 thanks for the lifeline 😁

Meha5a · 24/05/2022 13:04

@user1493458352 It's really hard not to let it get to you which is why for me this thread is so important. Although it's not nice we are all in the same boat regarding the feedback, at least you know your not alone. For a while I diverted the feedback into the junk mail and now I don't bother opening it. Why would I read the crap for nothing anyway (although if they paid me would I ?) 🤣🤣

Workingfromhomenow · 24/05/2022 13:23

Found the new thread!
@user1493458352 Really, don't let the feedback get you down. I suppose the proofreaders have to justify their employment! Just ignore most of it - it's not helpful.

Gally123 · 24/05/2022 13:44

@Lindsaychad123 - I used to, now I combine it with Tpro. Depends what you call a "full time wage" - nowhere near what I used to earn in the NHS, but I get by. Mainly we don't do it for the pay but for flexibility.

Lindsaychad123 · 24/05/2022 13:51

I’m looking for the flexibility too. I work the weekends which pays my actual bills so what I make on dict8 is for extras n daily living. Just wondering what people actually make on it

Australia25 · 24/05/2022 15:11

thank you for including me in the thread. Nice to know everyone has issues with feedback from proof readers! Agree it’s better to not take their criticism to heart otherwise you can become 😭 despondent. Presently picking up small tasks so there isn’t too much for them to nit pick! So this morning ignored the email they sent to inform me that I had I had omitted to actually insert DOB and had just typed the actual numbers of date of birth- they then suggested I read the manual regarding the contents required for the line RE: name DOB Hospital Number! Silently swore at the anonymous proof reader before deleting !!

Meha5a · 24/05/2022 15:38

@Australia25 that's the spirit !!! They are lucky we can get any of the crap that's dictated these days, they should be sending us a recorded standing ovation every day for perseverance and stamina !!!!

Chrissols · 24/05/2022 17:33

@Whitestar55 Thanks, I have been away so long, need to get back in the swing. @Gally123 Had a lovely time thanks, been to Madeira 😊

Lindsaychad123 · 25/05/2022 11:51

im so glad i found this thread. i was about to give up when getting the feedback as it was so petty and im thinking did you listen to the audio etc but glad to know its not just me x

Meha5a · 25/05/2022 12:06

@Lindsaychad123 welcome to the thread.

Do you suppose DICT8 will be allowing us to put our invoices in early seeing as though there is a long BH weekend coming up ?

Lindsaychad123 · 25/05/2022 12:38

I had asked if I could put mine in on or around the 27th which is Friday because of the upcoming bank holiday and was told that would be acceptable x

joewe41 · 25/05/2022 14:39

Just came on to offload a bit 😫 Typing a letter where the end of every sentence is a new paragraph. I've just lumped them into one as there was no need so expecting some feedback on that, but if I leave them it will be wrong as well. Wish there was something else as convenient but better pay.

Meha5a · 25/05/2022 14:56

@Lindsaychad123 thanks for letting us know

Whitestar55 · 25/05/2022 14:58

@joewe41 I've come across this too and like you I use my own judgement on where to start and end the paragraphs, as the letter would look ridiculous typed as a long list of lines. I've never had any feedback about it and if I did I'd still carry on editing it as I think it should be!!! Don't worry. I'm always on the look-out for better paid SE WFH work too.

OP posts:
joewe41 · 25/05/2022 15:34

@Whitestar55 Just feels like hard going today. On plus side just booked flights and Harry Potter studio tour for my daughter's birthday. Only staying overnight but should be good. Just need to have steam coming out of my fingers now 😂

Whitestar55 · 26/05/2022 13:15

@joewe41 Hope you're having a better day today!

At everyone else - I'm looking into voice recognition editing work and wanted opinions on whether this is more lucrative than bashing away at every word on a keyboard.

I understand some companies have halved the rate of pay for VR editing as it is deemed to be quicker than typing out the dictation manually (is it?). This doesn't seem fair to me, as I assume the companies are making higher profits on this, once again at the expense of the transcriber, rather than passing on a share of the rewards in the form of a higher rate of pay.

I know the companies have the initial outlay in setting up the VR software etc, but once this is up and running I can't imagine the cost is high, so are the companies making double, or even an extra third or a quarter of the profit with VR as opposed to manual typing, and is the transcriber getting the short straw once again?

OP posts:
Meha5a · 26/05/2022 13:58

I think we will always get the short straw.

Medical secretaries have never been paid well in my experience - not sure why I even bothered to take the course in the first place !!!
