Chatty thread whilst waiting for Chernobs 2019

I'm waiting for the Chernobs thread to start - it's my favourite one Grin. I am sure we're all horrendously busy - I'm trying to finish off DS's blanket he ordered for Christmas. But it's mostly Lobelia and I can't see at night for the joining and he's been off school sick this week. Aaaatrrggghhh. However because of that, I have almost finished joining a Kinship hug - ran out of plum for the edging so have to go to wool shop tomorrow.

Have also started my Chernobs blanket but think I've mucked up the colours so may have to do some frogging.

What are you all up to?

Oh, that's lovely TwitterQueen1!

I am about halfway through a Candy's Hug. Once I finish the current square I need to weigh it and see if I will need to order more of the background colour

Thank you Purple Smile
I buy padded envelopes for 1.99 from W H Smith. You can get a whole blanket in and it costs 2.95 2nd class - assuming you're in the UK of course!

Thanks TQ but I either use a polymailer at approx 12p or reuse an Amazon box to post for £2.95.

Gorgeous TQ. I'm very envious of your ability to combine colours. I'm rubbish at that.

Well, that is half of my Candy’s Hug, bar the border, crocheted and joined. I’ve weighed it and done some calculations and it looks like I will need 93g more of the background colour than I bought. I guess I had better work out what colours I am doing for the border soon so I can get more of them at the same time, if necessary!

Tx all.
Sorry Purple I misunderstood. When you mentioned weighing I thought you were thinking about postage. I didn't realise you weigh to get find out what colours you need!

Thats OK TQ - I did wonder... Grin

To explain - I am doing this pattern with different coloured flowers on a meadow green background.

I have crocheted all the flowers but just guessed the number of balls of meadow I would need when I ordered a few weeks ago.

Grin You are clearly a super-planner! The blanket looks amazing. I always start out with good intentions ....... but then just simply go with the colours I fancy on the day.

@Photinia

Pls excuse the Daily Fail link, but there is a report on the funeral of the head teacher [[https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6602585/Theres-fairy-dust-situation-School-head-buried-coffin-covered-pupils-art.html here]

You were right - hundreds of people turned out to pay their respects. She was obviously much loved. Flowers

Thanks for that link, TQ. There's been stuff in the local papers, and on local fb groups etc, but it's amazing that she made it into the national consciousness.

"Bonkers" is bang on.

Hello all

I've nearly finished my Snug - one row to attach and then edging to do. Have decided to go with Bella's puff stitch - seeing as I don't know what I'm doing and she's a goddess of crochet Grin

Hope you're all staying warm!

Report
MadisonAvenue · 31/01/2019 13:00

Nearly there then MrsJones You've actually inspired me so thank you! I've got my 2018 temperature blanket which needs edging and I hadn't a clue what to do but now you've mentioned puff stitch I think that may work! Now to decide which colour...

I'm going to attempt to do some crochet later. I've got a poorly finger raises middle finger to show you. My dog saw his sworn enemies, the Boxers who live a few doors away, and pulled sharply which resulted in my finger twisting in his lead and it's now very tender and very swollen.

MrsJ - ooh, doing so well on the snug
commiserations Madison - thats sounds painful nothing worse than a poorly finger.
Plodding on with Chernobyl squares - just 3 and a half to do, and i will have got the 20 I need to join when I get home :)
